How we would have benefitted if Dick Feynman, Alan Turing, and John von Neumann had been drafted and set to the front in WWII. How did we benefit by sending Henry Moseley to the front with a rifle in his hand in WWI? ___________________________________ Why, should certain ones of privilige or anything else be exempt? Should our military be made-up strictly of share-croppers, poor and indigent, G.E.D.'s or kids who work in a car wash? How about throwin' in some 'upper-crusters' to brighten things up a bit? Let's keep things equal, here! Isn't that what this country is supposed to be all about... Fairness and equality?

When I had my wisdom teeth pulled, I got a dry socket in one of them. It hurt like hell. I went to the dentist and he packed a little ball of cotton in the socket and told me to leave it there for a couple days. The pain was gone immediately. Call your dentist and see about him looking at it. Chuck

Nonsense. I got myself a copy of "Idiot's Guide to Physics and Engineering", and I nailed the whole shebang in about a day or two. But still can't shoot straight. ______________________________ You're just not tryin'! Chuck

I don't think anyone is trying to say they should be exempt from service. I do think such scientists are far better utilized in a capacity other other than operating a weapon. It is much easier to train someone to use a weapon than to teach them atomic physics. Just my $.02 ___________________________________ I was probably, being a bit sarcastic. Sure, I can see folks 'serving' their country in ways other than carrying a weapon. Look at 'Rosie the Riveter' and police officers, scientists, as you mentioned. The only point I'm trying to make is, Just because someone has 'pull' to keep them out of the draft, simply because they are some senator's son is anything but fair. Make sense? Chuck

Quotas are illegal, no matter what form they take. Officer performance reviews typically involve the following: Calls for service taken, reports written, traffic stops conducted, arrests made misdomenor and arrests made felony. Then you have "total activity" which is the added up number of all the totals. False arrests gets the officer in deep water, if not sued and fired. Making a lot of "lame" arrests gets the officer in deep water (i.e. petty BS arrests), if not fired. Making traffic stops with out probable cause for the stop gets the officer in deep water, if not fired. Seeing how by law traffic stops are recorded by video and audio for the prevention of profiling and those tapes are kept on hand for a length of time (and reviewed by supervisors regularly), those sorts of things pop up. Am I saying that every cop is perfect? Nope, they're people, they can and do make mistakes. Am I saying that the majority of officers out there have a reasonable amount of training and are trying to do their job as best they can? Yeah. Do officers recieve any sort of kick-back for traffic citations? Nope. You can always contact the department with questions. If you don't want to do that, then you can always talk to your lawyer. If you don't want to do that, every state out there have their laws (traffic, penal, etc) posted on the internet. Go reading and educate yourself. They all have some sort of "Code of Criminal Procedure" which spells out in black and white what officers are able to do and not do. Sometimes its a section within a different code for the state, sometimes its its own document. Some searching on the internet will yield answers, as will a trip to your local library. _____________________________________ Well said, Dave! Chuck

Yep Dats what I am sayin... if its good for some.. its good for ALL. _______________________________________ If, they would do that with income tax... that's another topic and it wouldn't go-over, either. Chuck

___________________________- A styptic pencil is not really a pencil... it's just shaped like one. Styptic is an astringent (like what is used in after-shave lotion), white in color. Barbers used to use them when they shaved customers and nick 'em. It stops the bleeding, real quick. They are still available. Chuck

Styptic pencil! Works great at stopping bleeding. It'll sting just a little at first. You can find them at most barber shops or drugstores. I'd suggest, keeping one handy if, you're going to be shaving in 'man-land'! Chuck

Take it to court! You don't know unless you try. You might be surprised to find-out that this particular cop has been writing too many tickets and the court has a 'question' about what he's doing. Example: In a 10-day period, several years ago, I recieved 3-tickets, from the same cop in the same location on 3-different occasions. All 3- tickets were for 58-mph in a 55-mph zone. After the 3rd. ticket, I called the JP. His instructions to me were, to tear the tickets up, he 'would' be talking with the officer. Seems as though, I wasn't the only person to have that happen to them. Good luck. Chuck

Really, at least I can spell, idiot, apparently you can't and don't use spell check, if your going to call someone an idiot make sure you can spell it, or you'll look like the real idiot. But that's ok, you can get anything you want at Alice's resturant, walk right in it's around the back just a half mile from rail road track... ___________________________________ The movie, was just as good as Arlo's song. Really showed things in that era. The scenes at the draft board, brought back some ugly memories, for me. ...You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant exceptin' Alice! Chuck

Yes, it does. _______________________________ I guess, what folks want to do in the privacy of their own home, is up to them. I've lived long enough to realize that, no good comes from dope, booze... any of it. Chuck I have been clean for a year and a half now and I would agree with you....nothing good comes from it when used for amusement purposes only. You wouldn't truly believe how clouded your judgment is while stoned on pot. I was a daily user for years and when I finally started weening myself off of it, it could take 3-5 days of not using before my head cleared up and I could think straight. Most daily users will deny that their judgment is clouded, which is expected, because they really don't remember what its like to be clear headed. ____________________________________ Good for you! You dang sure hit the nail on the head! Years ago, I 'sampled' a little pot and got hold of some that was 'laced'... that ended it for me. Years of alchol abuse kept me fairly screwed-up. I finally, got sick and tired of waking up sick and tired. I quit cigarettes at the same time and the last 10-yrs. of sobriety have been great! Some folks, just have to learn the hard way. Chuck

Yes, that is what I am saying. I've known and seen addiction from all kinds of drugs. I would bet a dollar against a donut that I have been witness to far more drug use than you have, judging by your posts. I have also read quite a few scientific studies on the subject, although I admittedly avoid the propaganda, except to see ludicrous examples of how dangerous drugs are. _____________________________________ I've seen enough of it to where I just don't care to be around anyone using that shit. I 'survived' the 60's and lost a good friend to acid. I've seen some good folks totally screw-up their lives from booze and dope. How much do I have to 'see' to start thinking that there is good in any of it? Chuck You musta had some LAME friends. I was taking the badass drugs in the 70' and 80's Hardcore LSD,;)] mushrooms Best pot. etc etc. I'm still here
