Whats da matter, yer own kin ain't good enough for yer?
masterrig replied to Skyrad's topic in Speakers Corner
So what is New York's excuse, then? Some folks just like to feel superior and the South seems to be an easy mark. With a real good search, this kind of thing can happen anywhere. Chuck -
I am not religious. I do not favor one religion over another. I do not attend church/synagogue etc. I do, however, say Merry Christmas to many people. How is that endorsing one religion over another? A majority of people that say Merry Christmas are not endorsing a religion or have any religious affiliation. But some people see what they want to see. ________________________________ "1981 to 1988 is 7 years"-Kallend (oops, it's actually 8 years,Kallend) The decade of the 80's was from 1980 to 1989. 10 years. If you remove 1980 and 1989 you have 1981 to 1988. 8 years. It's all about being 'politically correct'... and it's bull-shit! Political correctness has gotten the people of this country afraid they'll offend their own shadows. If, this country is supposed to be all about 'freedoms' why, has our government gotten us to a point where we can't even wish someone a Merry Christmas or any other greeting, without offending someone? We've gotten to the point where you can barely say 'hello' because the word 'hell' is in it. It's all ridiculous. Damnit! It's Christmas and people say 'Merry Christmas' to others and if noone likes it... that's their problem. Same with someone greeting someone with 'Happy Kwanza' or whatever. Let's get back to being 'people' and quit the damned 'politically correct' crap! Merry Christmas to everyone! Chuck

Learn it! Live it! Love it! Thanks, for the translation. I don't know if that was supposed to be a 'clicky' or not but It didn't work for me. Chuck No no no - that isn't the translation - we will just have to know how to say it. -

That quote was rather surprising coming from you. Not at all, but some of your comments didn't make sense or were misinformed. A perception, incorrect, but whatever floats your boat. Your posts are normally very level headed, it just seems you were a bit hard on this guy before the facts were in, that's all I'm saying. No disrespect intended. No dis-respect intended here, either. Mostly, I had questions in regard to the matter. As the thread progressed and more information arose, I could see the situation more as it really was and in the process, my questions were answered. I can see that it was a pretty 'hairy' situation and that the man did the best he could, under the circumstanses. I'd like to add, my wife, who is retired law enforcement as an investigator, had questions about the incident after hearing the initial news coverage. Chuck

Since it has been said here, that guns are not allowed to be carried on school property in Florida, he had his weapon in his car trunk. Chuck Which proves that a bad rule! Grnated this is not an everyday thing, but, it proved the problem with the law/rule....Lisensed trained gun owners are a good thing! When my son was still goin to public school here, there were 2 armed police officers on campus at all times during any event or school day...no telling how much thier simple presence avoided problems! It's sad to think that things have come to that. I recall a time when a couple teachers being present was enough at a school function. Chuck

You can't run around all day every day in condition red. TV cops do, real ones don't. The ones that are hyper alert all the time burn out, get in more fights, and get the most complaints. It's about training and playing the averages. I seldon carry when I'm off duty, I do carry when I go into work to catch up on stuff in the office on weekends or after hours. It appears that's what he was doing prior to going on vacation. Initial media reports are NEVER correct, many times the media venue reports on what they THINK is happening and fact come out later. I was a public information officer for many years in a major media market. I learned first hand just how inaccurate media reports are. I was actually involved in situations, then hear the media report and just laugh. People jump to conclusions or watch too much TV to know how actual police work goes, but they will comment without facts. This guy did a great job given the sitation, ripping him for stuff is silly. A few posts later, I basically said the same thing about the media. Initially, from media reports, the assumption was that the man was 'supposed' to be there for security. As more information surfaced, I could see how the initial information was mis-leading. I don't watch t.v. cop shows because I feel they are more than mis-leading. I gather from your response, that is your assumption of me? I do know, in real life, police officers will tend to jump to a conclusion until further evidence to the contrary shows-up. Chuck

Also, as more information surfaces, the whole picture changes. That's the way the news media works. They give bits and pieces of information as they choose and we have to piece it all together. Chuck

Hindsight is 20/20...its easy to say what he should have done, but when placed in a situation where your life is in peril, the brain is not necessarily processing clearly and rationally. Its similar to having a malfunction in my opinion; you're in an extremely stressful situation, and some people say the craziest thought processes enter their mind that they never would've imagined. That security guard might very well already be regretting his chain of events now and be asking himself, 'Why did I waste time, I should have just entered and shot the guy much earlier.' Did anybody see that that security guard is a super stand up guy, donating much of his life to his Santa charity? Apparently he was on Oprah years ago for all his selfless volunteer work. Luckily, all the cogs and events of this situation resulted in the best possible outcome. The guy is a trained law enforcement officer hired to protect the people in the meeting. That's his job. I'm not saying he's horrible or a bad guy... I'm just curious about some of his actions in a 'deadly' situation. Yes, I saw the part about his 'repair Santa' work. That has no bearing on what happened in that comittee room. It all worked-out with just the 'bad guy' dead and it was all more of a 'luck over skill' result. Chuck Also I dont think he was there ar hired security he was just there If, that be the case, a whole new light shines on the situation. Chuck

According to the inteview he gave he also had to get his gun out of the trunk That, just does not seem right. In this day and age of 'anything can happen', I would think, a 'security' person would come prepared. Wow! Chuck

I wasn't sure if he did in fact go to his car for his vest and more ammo. By the time he gotback, all the board members could've been dead. I believe, I would've stayed and not left. Bottom line... I would not have told the interviewer(s) that I left to get my vest and more ammo. Also, why didn't he have all that (on) before the meeting started? Chuck
-
Except the last - and in this instance, that was a very, very good thing. The part of the news story I found interesting, was an interview with the security guard. He stated that he peeked into the meeting room after hearing what he determined to be shots fired. He considered leaving the area to get his 'vest' and more ammo! This guy was a former cop! In a situation like that, you don't leave the scene to get your vest and more ammo! What was he thinking? Chuck

Just how many earmarks do we really need?
masterrig replied to turtlespeed's topic in Speakers Corner
The Republicans too. No amount of rhetorical outrage can cover for the fact that this is business as usual for both parties. Unfortunately we get the government that we deserve. They're all the same... republicans, democrats, doesn't matter! They collect their paycheck from us and here and there from the lobbyists and whoever else is willing to grease their palms. I still think, senators and congressmen should be limited to two terms... just like the president. Chuck -
This is funny, to me. My wife would never ask me to do any of those things! SHE is the one who thinks those things are not 'manly'. She knows that I'm more than willing to do any of those things but she would never ask. Chuck
