  1. I love how in the second (brixton) picture none of them look old enough to actually have been alive when she was in power..
  2. Hi Paul, Does this mean that the BPA are insisting that this is done on the previous pack job (i.e. at repack time) or before the paperwork is signed off for the next packjob (i.e. the AP/Rigger has to pack the kit, test it, close it again)? Also is it a recommendation or a mandatory test as part of the repack (STC/Rigger minutes not available on BPA Site) Am just curious as if it is the former this will mean I can no longer effectively practise reserve drills at repack time.

    Cypres

Mine came back from Cypres this week (maybe a little earlier), and one posted a week later did too. So guess its a bit up in the air on the their lead times.
  4. Despite the fact the french nicked (popularised at least) the idea of the Halifax Gibbet - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halifax_Gibbet It does bemuse me the vitriol that the Americans have for the royal family - which seems to cost the British taxpayer about £ 36 million according to google.. Thats about 3 days in Afghanistan.. I know where I'd rather send my funding..
  5. The queen offers a none political envoy to countless nations, the royals do a variety of charity work and are a pretty big attraction for foreign visitors. Personally, I like the monarchy - the powers they theoretically hold are too much, but as good old Liz has demonstrated over the 70 years there is a difference between having power and using it. In British politics we've seen the unelected bodies standing more for the rights of the everyday person than the parliment elected by the people (esp regarding detention without trial legislation attempted post 911 which would allow 3months + detention without warrent which was repeatedly pushed back by the house of lords). £5million quid? it's a drop in the ocean in the grand scheme of government spending.. and sod the french.. why would we want to cppy them?!

    Cypres

Given I've still not got a unit back that was sent in early Jan - I'd hazard a guess and say they aren't far from 3 months either.
  7. A great episode, glad you guys are back and was good to hear the stories about Rocket. As for the swearing - I think the level of language is the same as the rest of the sport and it make's it part of the show what it is.
  8. The full list of UK dropzones are published here: http://www.bpa.org.uk/where-can-i-jump/ If you're keen on doing AFF then you have to leave Scotland, and your realistic options are: * Cark * Black Knights * Peterlee I'd say from Edinburgh Peterlee is probably the quickest drive as its the closest. Each of these will be ran under the same BPA AFF Syllabus but having never been a student at any of these DZ's I cant really pick them apart.
  9. Interesting Colin, but does a tandem passenger with no license class as a parachutist?
  10. Having done my time in retail as a student I found it was much nicer in the UK if people would open a sentence with Hi and a smile - so its something I've picked up when speaking to anyone serving be it waiter / shop assistant / manifest. She sounded rude, but she's French - its a different scale over there right?
  11. Couple of hours to drive to Sibson and Chatteris.. Not been to chatteris but sibson is usually pretty decent :)
  12. Hey, welcome to the sport!! There's a lot of bah humbug about british weather, and rightly so. Time of year is an important factor, but you'll also find British jumpers will jump in conditions our American bretherin won't. There are a number of good dropzones outside of the UK that'll offer you USPA and BPA licenses. Am not familiar with the UK rules, but am sure if you're a UK resident the expectation is that you hold a UK license or convert to one. If I were you, I'd also look at dropzones a little closer to home. Depending which side of Dorset you are, then Dunkeswell is worth a look. They fly to 15,000ft and have the quickest planes (2x Beech 99). I've only been there for the odd weekend and boogie but it seems like a good DZ and close to you :)
  13. I've heard people complain of similar issues (not necessarily blacking out though) when they've had leg straps /harness that is too tight as mentioned above.. Also poor diet / low blood sugar. You said you'd not eaten a lot that day, do you normal do well without food?

    Meteor?

If a meteor came over a city? I'd hope not... and where'd you aim for - the Kaipur belt? ;-)
  15. 100% agree, you cannot force tolerance or understanding on someone and it'd just end up in court.. If the poor churches want to turn away the revenue from holding wedding ceremonies then bigger fool them. This for once appears to be a very grown up compromise from the UK Gov.. Now whether the EU will flag this up as a church 'discriminating' against a gay couple when they say no to a marriage in a church... we'll wait and see on this front..
  16. When the IRS is wanting $20,000, she wouldn't need to be all that attractive. I might have taken the deal, gotten my 'audit' taken care of, and THEN sued them. But wouldnt you be then guilty of bribing a government agent...
  17. Religious locations will not be forced by this law to hold marriages.. but obviously the law will allow a religious location to hold a gay marriage if the vicar/priest/imman et al. consent.
  18. Cheers.. it was the Fisker that I'd seen... the only one of the others I'd drive..
  19. As a gun hating Brit (nb this is a joke, everytime I come to the US i've ended up in a gun range) I agree this man should be allowed to carry a gun. He definitely has the apparent demeanour and seeming level headed approach to handling a weapon That scenario could have rapidly escalated beyond 1 or two people getting physically abusive, where a Taser just lacks impact. That woman.. I wouldn't trust her with a rusty spoon...
  20. Dilithium? Definitely crystals.. Electric cars are a bit of a pipe dream, as for the refueling and range issues are addressed.. The fact batteries are slow charge, heavy weight makes them a crap storage medium for a car.. However, as a method of powering the vehicle (vs combustion engine) it is a good idea and much less complex. Top gear did a decent whack at it (in their usual jokey way) of putting a generator in a car, and powering the electric car from a generator rather than a battery.. I remember seeing some car companies are looking at this now to see whether its viable...
  21. That's terrible, I cannot fathom how a woman could think that its acceptable.. even if I'd had a one night stand with a woman who turned out to get pregnant with my child - I wouldn't want another man raising them... I agree, before a father accepts legal responsibility for a child, a paternity test should be made, quick google suggests DIY kits that do it for £100 - so it's not a huge expense to add, and stops all this.. If you have a child, you support it. Thats my view on life. If you don't agree to this rule don't have sex.
  22. The video is two things: 1. Impressive 2. Depressing Firstly the manner in which this guy keeps his calm, whilst remaining assertive should be a lesson to ever LEO / Security Agent. Not rising to her threats, abuse and restraining in himself for quite a period before drawing his taser. However, the woman and her children do bring forward cause for concern. Whether she is in receipt of state benefits or sources money from other sources.. she's an unfit mother. Exposing children to behaviour like this is going to have a a massive detriment to their life (arguably worse than neglect or physical abuse).. On the gun front, interesting that the guard here is carrying a taster and not a gun. I wonder how the outcome would have been if he had been armed.
  23. Yeah, and if the other article is true up to 4% of men raising someone else's kids.. that's pretty horrid.. Watching Jeremy Kyle (think Jerry Springer with slightly less pantomime) there seems to be a large number of guys wanting paternity tests.. Does make you think though - at the end of the day a guy has no guarantee the kid he's raising is his without a DNA test..
  24. Pretty horrible chapter of history.. lucky it was long enough ago that the affects of his actions are known from history rather than felt, so there's no lingering malice / revenge needed to shroud his body. I imagine he'll be laid to rest at one of the cathedrals (York perhaps) in line with his predecessors / successors.
  25. Always a risk that is true. Putting systems in place such as chip and pin make it more difficult to commit fraud (in the UK it's very unusual for your card to leave your sight / hand during a transaction (a mobile reciever gets brought to your table at restaurants).. As a result, I rarely carry more than £10 cash with me and get by.. when google wallet / NFC with your cellphone makes it big it should make this a real reality.. However, some people just prefer cold hard cash..
