I posted it in my earlier post..

I think they had the prop shut off and the plane was in drogue-fall/glide (special drogue designed for this purpose probably). The drogue was cutaway once the jumper(s) were back inside, and the prop was restarted. Where did you hear that? I'll have to go back and look at the video.. the prop thing might be right but I don't know about a drogue on the plane - that doesn't sound right. BTW the video is here

Yeah this was the one thing I had a question about... guess that answers that.

I've given some serious consideration to it.. was thinking about the possibility of doing it with a casa but haven't spoke in depth with anyone. I think the porter may be one of the better planes to do it with, but really haven't picked anyones brain on it too much. Kevin

Yeah, as did I... Interested to see what everyone else has to say about RSLs when it comes to wingsuits..
-
I've had a spinning mal on a wingsuit which put me on my back.. deploying a reserve on your back, while better than not deploying at all, isn't the "best" in my opinion way of deploying a reserve. In my situation I cut away flipped over went to stable flight then pulled the reserve. was under a reserve by 2K feet.

i've never used an RSL and leave it up to my students when I teach Birdman. You should be pulling higher when doing wingsuit jumps and should have more time to deal with things..

If it is anything like the keyhole stuff i've played with in the past, I believe you can change the perspective so that you're looking straight down -- in that view you should be able to tell the distance.

Now THAT is slick looking.. if only you could get some data out of it :)
-
Yep sure does :)

When cedric first gave me the info for this press release I was told the name had changed to the "MTR WINGSUIT" -- afterwards I was told it was actually going to change to MTR3. You can see on the MTR2 equipment page here what the mtr2 style rear air deflector looks like. Cedric is supposed to be sending me one to evaluate. Pictures of the new rear air deflector are on the press release.

Actually they had to put absorbent fabric in the cells and stuff it in a bucket full of kerosene on the way to altitude to get it to light with the flare. It was deployed just like a direct bag out of the bucket. Yes I know, the point I was trying to make is that it was real - not some computer generated stuff... it still actually burned the way you see it :)

It was done by troy hartman, I think someone in AZ did it as well... he did it for sensless acts (MTV Show) the video is here.. http://www.troyhartman.com/videos.htm Obviously they do burn that way, you saw the video right ? I'm not sure why all the sudden this video is getting so popular.. it has been around a looong time. I've seen it talked about 4 different places recently, two of which weren't even skydiving related places.

what would you have done prior to a BMI rating being established? I started before a BMI was established. I did though learn from a very experianced skymonkey1 Uh, when did you learn? BMIs were around when I learned and that was back in *thinking* 2002? The "BMI" training was far different than it is now... the training program now is much more organized and structured.

I wonder what "drastically" means for this suit.. i find it hard to believe that these minor changes will drastically increase performance. Vesa, can you comment on this? Also, why is there a picture of an S.3-S but no PHI? OKay i took the $$ parts out.. now we're just talking about a new suit. I'm not sponsored by birdman and don't have anything to gain by talking about their suit(s).

Just out of curiousity what kind of requirements are going to be in place with this? (thinking safety wise here) minimum number of wingsuit jumps?
-
I'll PM You the company where birdman (at least used to) buy their fabric from... so you can get an "exact" match
-
Are they has bright? What do they cost?
-
Oo you're doing lights and not glosticks? Whatcha got? I thought about a strobe system using some of the police/fire hideaway strobes (maybe 1 on each arm and one on each leg...) so that i'd have my own anti-collision system going but i figured that'd f with vision too much.

The only mixing up I do (very rarely) is which one of my suits I jump :) I love my s3, but I use my GTI for night jumps (since it has white wings.. gotta love the glow sticks)

The website looks great!

Fergs, you need to loosen up a bit -- jumping in a suit? C'mon man. Congrats :)

As far as I know, the USPA hasn't really gotton involved with training of wingsuits. Birdman was the first to come up with a formal program. Training usually is a one day thing, and wouldn't really require you to monitor the progress of a student as they go from student to "trained" in a matter of 45 minutes plus a jump. There was a time early on when there was no formal BMI training (training for the trainers) and the quality of the training received from the BMI's during that era greatly varies. The newer ones (i am not exactly sure when they started the formal BMI training) have a solid baseline to teach from. We take up students with 200 jumps in the last 18 months or 500 total. I personally do not take anyone under 500 that has an eliptical canopy (i.e. stilleto). If you have over 500 jumps i'll let you make the call, but it is highly advised against. Also no Pull out containers, only BOC.
