  1. I don't see the value in this "Diploma". It won't make you more likely to be hired then someone who has their Tandem and AFF rating.
  2. It can happen on any canopy. I have heard of people having very hard openings on a Spectre. It's not as likely as a Sabre, but it does happen.
  3. I am a little surprised you would notice any difference in the stabilization. I wouldn't think there would be any difference. Was a very noticable difference between the two?
  4. How were you comparing the picture? Was it just on the lcd on the cameras, on a standard def TV or on a HD TV.
  5. It's often very diffucult to get an accurate read on what a person's attitude is over the internet. I am not offended. I just think you have some misguided opinions on packers and pin checks. Your post about you being responsible for your own gear and therefore not needing anyone to check your pin for you is in my opinion misguided and assumes you can see everything on your gear. There have been more then one person saved from a container lock or other malfunction by having a pin check. You can misread things and having some else check yoru pin can catch your mistake. Everyone can make a mistake. It's a dangerous attitude when you think you can't make a mistake checking your gear.
  6. You definitely need to get out more. You have a typical rookie attitude that will change over time. There is nothing wrong with getting a pin check. It doesn't imply laziness. A malfunction can happen to anyone. No matter how careful they pack their parachute. There is nothing wrong with paying a packer. They often will do a better job then you.
  7. Anything can happen. It's always good to have a second pair of eyes checking things. Just because you are careful in the plane doesn't mean you can't have the pin begin to work it's way out. It's always good to have someone check it. Just in case you are wrong when you feel for it.
  8. At the 2 minute call it's easier for some else to see my pin then it is for me to check it by feel. Why wouldn't you want to have someone check your pin at that time? If someone wants me to check their pin, I would never turn them down or think badly of them. It isn't being lazy it's just double checking things.
  9. I am an atheist. But from what I grew up with it is supposed to be about peace, depending on if you read the old testament or new. As far as what you said about Muslims seeking justice. Justice is such and arbitrary thing. To one person it could mean a punishment of exhile while another might advocate prison time or another might want death for the offender.
  10. Muslims seem to have a similar problem. Their most fanatatical are the most violent. I don't think it's limited to any one religion.
  11. AFF can be done pretty quickly depending on the weather. You can jump in the winter, but it really sucks.
  12. I started jumping in Illinois at Hinckley. My first winter after starting skydiving I moved to Florida.
  13. I agree with billvon. The big difference these days is that there are more people in the air at the same time. That distraction can cause problems.
  14. I know I know nitpicking, but hey this is a skydiving website and yes I have done a jump or two. I just couldn't help but notice those details.
  15. That second one really doesn't make sense. Is the person who's point of view this is in freefall and heading towards the open canopy?? If so he would see the top of the canopy not that side view. I have never seen a ripcord handle like that.
  16. This has been asked a number of times. I don't remember what the consensus was but there are a quite of few people who have 1000 or more jumps with out a reserve ride. I have over 1400 with out one, but that is definitely not the most with out one.
  17. I used to carry a Syderco knife all of the time, till I had to throw one away at the airport. After that I decided it wasn't worth the trouble.
  18. Every experience is worth something. Will the diploma be worth anything once you have it? I can't see how it would be worth much here in the US. It's better to have an AFF rating and a Tandem Instructor rating. Then you could afford to buy a tent.
  19. I said I DON'T KNOW. The 'I don't use skyride' was supposed to be a joke. I also don't care one way or the other.
  20. yeah Even the hacker films are way off. The closest to reality is probably War Games. All the rest are just stupid. I couldn't stand Swordfish. It's just too stupid.
  21. None, not one single movie has ever portrayed a Systems Administrator correctly. If they did everyone would bored to tears. None of them have ever been remotely close.
  22. I hear he is a close personal friend of Bob Pope. That's gotta mean something right??!
