  1. exactly, to me a proper hnp is'nt anything over 3k...and even that is being a bit generous
  2. I crushed my L1 over a year ago and still got the usual rods/screws to hold it all together (should come out soon though). I had to wear a full torso brace for 4 months and by 6 months I was jumping again. In that time I did a lot of physio even though I was told I didnt have to (lots of swimming and running) and even though my doc said not to jump until I had my metal out but I did anyway. I did listen to another doc who was an ex-jumper so was a bit more optimistic, what she said it basically came down to is: you'll be right as long as you dont fuck up. Since then I've done about 150 jumps and havent had a problem at all... I ditched my Sabre and bought a Safire 2 and had no problems with hard openings or landings. Edit: I had no idea if I was strong enough to start jumping again, my back felt pretty good, but I had no idea how it would cope with the stresses of jumping so the first 2 jumps I did were hop n pops just to test it out, once I found out it could handle that I moved onto terminal deployments
  3. not sure if this is the 'official' link but... http://www.planettribes.com/allyourbase/
  4. dont worry about chuteless he just loves tell how 'non-believers' are going straight to hell rather then actually try to prove his point
  5. I crushed my L1 over a year ago and spent 4 months in a torso brace, once I got out of it I spent 2 months doing shit loads of physio (even though my doc said I dont have to bother with it), this included swimming and a lot of walking/running. 6 months after the acident I was jumping again and havent hd a problem since, if anything it gets a bit sore packing but thats about it. Now the smart thing to do would be to wait till you doc says you can jump again...I couldnt wait that long (my doc still thinks im not jumping) and got the opinion of a doctor who used to also jump who said I should be right to jump again. Also it depends on how many jumps you have right now, if you have only 10 jumps as opposed to say 1000 then id be less inclined to rush back into it.
  6. opps dont worry, it just took a while for it to come through
  7. Yup having the same problem (for a PM)
  8. Good post, I gotta admit the most memorable jumps are the ones where you think "man that was sketchy!" It all depends on who you jump with as well, i mean if one of my mates decides to try and catch me in a track after a 4 way (who know who im talking about eiley
  9. what makes you think lucas would base episodes 7, 8 and 9 on the timothy zahn series (the ones with mara jade in it)? they arnt part of the 'official star wars galaxy' are they?
  10. hmm i dont get the hype over oxycontin, never did anything for me. Morhpine and ketamine...now thats the good shit!
  11. 1. took at 2 way out of a biplane at 3k in the middle of cloud..to busy geeking the camera and was open at 1200 (no cypress)..then made the mistake of spiralling in to land so it made it look even worse then it was (great way to get grouded) 2.Accuracy comp. a mixture of target fixation and complacency caused me to hook it in...broke my back 3. on a 4 way comp we were the only team to willingly exit after a shite load of black rain clouds formed benieth us on jump run... wasnt that stupid but man it hurt and we got drenched...
  12. so got a sabre 150 eh? too ashamed to admit you've really got a clapped out piece of shit? on a completely different note i've got a REAL sabre 150 just sitting at home waiting to be jumped...if only someone would buy it....hmmm
  13. he's really just a tank driver, just likes to call himself a student so people think hes educated... and no dont ask for any stories...he'll scare you..
  14. 2 x 10 cm titanium rods and 4 screws keeping my L1 vertabrea together (apparently you have to flare canopies these days )
  15. Not sure whats its like on the west coast squeak but over her in the east i can think of 5 DZ ive been to that did not use seatbelts ( and think most of planes didnt even come equipped with them)
  16. I dont know anything about those rigs, but just cause they are designed to carry large loads does'nt necessarily means it will open slow. If you're in the US I think here are a few DZ's that offer sabre2s (or other similar canopies) for students. These canopies do have a reputation for slow openings. Best bet is to goto a local DZ and talk to the DZSO (or ST&A for you yanks) or an instructor about it
  17. mmm ketamine is good shite...had a mixture of that and morphine while at hospital...now they were a few good days
  18. Ive got my L1 fused with rods and a chuck of hip missing due to a low turn about 11 months ago. I was told never to jump again, I eventually convinced my doc to say to jump after I get the rods out (in a few months) but I got bored and started jumping in dec (after 6 months, doc still doesnt know ) So far have had no probs. I moved up to a larger canopy and chose a safire 2 (slow opening), considering you havent jump you dont have that luxury to choose canopies. To test if i was good to jump again I got a step ladder and jumped off each step going higher and higher too see how my back handled the impact, my back didnt even twitch doing that so i figured I would be fine on normal jumps, but if I stuffed up again then id be screwed...i decided it was worth the risk. Since it years since the accident your back should be fine (im not a doc so dont quote me on that), however its the rods that are the problem as while they are very strong they are also brittle so if they shatter...well you can guess the rest . Obviously get as many opinions as possible, maybe try and find a doc/skydiver who you can get advice from.
  19. Its a sweet plane. However I dont think it was actually designed from scratch to be a jump plane, if you look at it its basically just a oversize cresco (10 seater) with just all the skyidiving accessories ( lights, handles etc) added at the factory. I think they also make other variants of the XL for non skdiving purposes anyway. Anyway basically its similar to a caravan but not as wide so its a bit fo a tighter fit. The climb rate is advertised as 14 to 14K' (i think) but it didnt seem that fast, but could be cause its a new plane and the DZ doesnt want to stress it too much yet. Havent had (or heard of) any problems with the horizontal stabiliser yet and I have exited from it in a tracking position too and I wasnt even close to it...
  20. Is it possible to add in functionality to allow users to change the value themselves? At the ISP I work at we allow this and it works pretty well.
  21. Helmet - have jumped without, only wear a Gath anyway which is only good to hold a dytter
  22. Yeah but this guy has only 10 jumps, so learning to pack it himself would be the best idea IMHO. It may be a pain in the arse to pack but i've always been a believer in packing yourself (at least until you understand all the basics of packing and how different techniques affect deployment etc)
  23. Oh yeah remember that one...I was standing in between the packing shed and social room, right where the plane flew over...had to duck on that one
  24. hmm would have to be the Aussie Nats last year, tried taking out a 2 way from a van that was doing 80km/h down a country road while drunk....now that was sketchy
  25. hmm borken back (badly crushed L1 vertabrae), had a bond graft and full of metal right now but took about 6 months off, that was back in December and done about 50 jumps since (the doc still thinks im grounded )
