ive done quite a few jumps in them before, pretty much the same engine as a cessna 206, just about 15 HP more (about 300HP i think) but can carry up to 8 people VERY slowly. I cant remember how long it took exactly but it was at least 30 min to 10,000ft and on very hot day it didnt always reach 10k witha full load. After saying that though it wa s apretty comfy ride and had a great heater for those cold winter days

Stella is ok but you cant beat Hoegaarden

BUMP come on guys, there must be more support for a PG forum out there??? lets try and convince HH to put one up because there isnt a decent PG forum site out there right now... -

I'm im about to buy a new aerodyne setup and over the past few weeks I havent been able to decide on a colour scheme for the rig/canopy. The problem is I've got a 25% voucher to use but its valid until the 1st of september so I have to decide and order it in the next few hours! I've come up with a few ideas, what do people think?? edit: I'm trying to get the 'see through' effect with the red/blue ribs on the yellow top/bottom skin but I have no idea whether this will actually work or not

yeah I can use google but i was wondering if there was just 'the one' site all paragliders use (kinda like dz.com)...and im too lazy to try and find it
-
Hey does anyone know of any paragliding sites/forums similar to dz.com? (ie kinda like a one-stop shop for all paragliding info) Cheers Mick

Ive been contemplating LASIK (or similar derivatives) for some time, however my optometrist has warned me about skydiving if I have it done as even though the flap they cut on my cornea will heal in time it will never be 100% again and if my goggle/helmet were to come off the force of the relative wind could be enough to tear the cornea again. Has anyone been warned of these risks?

I think this might be a firefox 'bug'. Ive had it happen to me a few times (not on DZ.com though), but on other sites such as gmail, it seems to happen when loading perl or php pages...

I agree here, I think its definately time for a PG at least -
Hmmm.. WS through solid cloud is always interesting, I went throught what I though was a 'thinish' layer of cloud - turned out to be about 6 thousand feet worth and it was at a DZ which was right next to the ocean. I thought I would be smart and do a gentle turn away from where I thought the ocean was and ended up doing a 270 facing straight out to the ocean at 4k when I broke through the clouds - not the smartest thing I've done. Oh yeah and on top of that my mate chopped and we spent the enxt 2 hours going through swamp land to try and find the canopy

yeah saw that one, I really dont know whether to bother reading pprune anymore. Its one thing to go after luke for the 'alleged' safety breaches, but suggesting he had something to do with Claire's death is a load of bull. I wonder if anyone has bothered to tell this dick that gear maintenance is the responsibility of a licensed jumper - so I've got no idea how he can rope Luke into being blamed for that... Also interesting to since people started suggesting QNIM and RS480 were the same guy RS has suddenly stopped posting..what a coincidence eh? -

Not saying they have never punched cloud but the two times I have been to barwon when there was 8/8ths at 4-5k the cresco never went up once, and that was before the shit hit the fan. -
OK now that makes more sense....or maybe not
-
3.14159 is pi...but apart from that I have NO idea what you are on about...

its on at 1830 in melbourne. I saw an ad for it - it is about Barwon (they didnt mention it but I saw the pink Cresco) heard something about "skydiving operations risking peoples lives". Im not even gonna bother taping it, it will be a typical TT piece and Im guessing it wont be too accurate - it will be a load of shit -

bastards... wouldnt expect any more from TT. I wouldnt be suprised if it was about Barwon Heads DZ -
Thanks for that gus, gave me a bit to think about... Was the FJC that douggs was doing last year with norgies or is that something he just organises himself? Anyone know if he is doing the same thing this year?
-
Nah dont worry about that, if I take it up I'd definetaly be looking for a local (to be honest jumping in oz scares the shit out of me from some of the sites ive seen and heard about around here) Ill be dropping in on the US on the way back so doing another course off a nice big span could be an idea as well....
-
OK point taken Yeah I realise that, believe me I've been thinking about it for long time and weighing up the risk vs reward. Anyway broke my back on jump 249 - unintentional low turn (the usual story im afraid) - but its amazing how much a little bit of pain makes you learn your lesson...
-
G'day all, just wondering if some of you guys can help out here... Well its the usual story...no BASE jumps yet but always wanted to do it but its something ive always planned to do in the 'future'. Now I've been given the opportunity to go to the big wall in norway and do the FJC offered there and I've got a couple of questions: 1. From my understanding there are 2 ways to go about it - either with BR (which i think costs $3000 for a week) or with the local club which costs roughly $1200 - minus food). Obviously there is a big difference in price for roughly the same amount of jumps, is there any reason for the large difference and if so is there one course people would recommend over another? 2. I broke my back on a skydive being stupid, that was over a year and a half ago (crushed L1 - got metal in me) since then i have done 150 jumps with not the slightest problem at all (including a couple of spanking openings and a dodgy landing). Im due to get the metal out eventually but I have no idea when, its the public health system so could be years away (doc is in no rush to remove them). Now with what I've done to my back do people think its a wise idea to even get into this at all? Obviously all i really want to hear is reassurance that i will be fine and should go for it but I know that wont happen and I know there is a lot of risk involved- i guess i need to hear from anyone else whos been in this situation. Mainly im worried about the shock of the openings I guess. Any help is appreciated. BTW - if I do this I will be putting quite a few jumps on a f1-11 canopy beforehand considering i havent jumped one since my student days.

I think FS2004 is good for teaching the various systems on planes work and give you an understanding of flight planning and procedures but when it comes to the the physics and the 'feel' of the flight engine then it is very sub-par when compared to the real thing. There are other FS out there which are meant to be a LOT better in terms of the actual physics and flight handling of the planes (such as xplane)

FS2004 has an addon for a paraglider. I played with it a bit and got bored after 10minutes
