Compensation question...again
freefalljason replied to freefalljason's topic in Photography and Video
I have seen posts here before asking about how a photog should be compensated for their work but I think I have a bit of a different situation and I was wondering what you would do if you were in my shoes. I received this e-mail yesterday: Jason, The Tullahoma Area Chamber of Commerce is currently working on their new marketing magazine that will be published in Jan 09. The magazine committee would love to feature your picture that was on the front page of the The Tullahoma News, October 5. We would put a byline with your information. This magazine is sent out in relocation packages, when anyone comes to the area, or is available in the offices of all of our chamber members. Can you please let me know if you are interested? Thank you, Tullahoma Area Chamber of Commerce The pic they are referring to was a tandem exit shot of a wheelchair bound friend of mine that made a jump a few weeks back and I gave the reporter from our local newspaper a photo to run with the story that they did about her. I didn’t receive any compensation from the paper but I wasn’t concerned about it because I figured it would be good publicity for the DZ and as I said I am friends with the student so I wanted to help her get her pic in the paper. Now I am wondering if I should ask the Chamber for compensation since they are going to be using it for “advertisement”. On the other hand though our DZ is a chamber member and it could be good advertising for us which means more work for me and the rest of the staff. Like I said I am wondering what you would do if it were you. Thanks and Blue Skies, Jason -
I have two PC101's and one of them crapped out this weekend so I just bought another one for $230 off ebay. Needless to say, I think it is worthwhile to have a back up. I even have my still set-up where I can use my 400D or my old 300D if I have to. I guess I feel like if I am prepared for the worse it won't happen Blue Skies, Jason

It looks like Sony has gone up on their flat rate. (must be because of gas prices) I looked at the price for my PC101 last year and it was $310 now it is showing $431 (plus any applicable tax). It also shows the same for a PC1000. I guess I should have sent mine in sooner and saved $120! Here is the link. http://eservice.sony.com/webrma/web/index.do Blue Skies, Jason

My wife has BLUSKYZ on her car. When my little girl was learning to talk she had a hard time saying "skydiving" and most of the time it came out "sky daddy" so I thought about that for my truck. I guess "skymama" would be more appropriate for you though. Blue Skies, Jason

Did anyone else notice the ad for the funeral home on the page?

I just wanted to let everyone know how Performance Designs handled a situation that I had with my Sabre 2 170 earlier this year. Here is my story. I bought a Sabre 2 170 from a friend of mine who had purchased it new and put about 120 jumps on it. I was really enjoying it for the first 35 jumps then, out of nowhere, on jump #36 (which was a camera jump) it SPANKED me on opening. I figured it could happen on any canopy so I packed it, hooked up my Birdman suit and went and made another skydive. The opening was fine that time. The next jump I made was another camera jump and it SPANKED me again, so hard this time that it tore the canopy at one of the line attachment points. So I called PD on Mon. and they told me to send it in to them and they would inspect and repair it. I explained to Robin or Donna (I can’t remember which it has been so long ago) that they would have to convince me that they “fixed it” because I was very nervous about jumping that canopy after the way it had treated me. She told me that after they repaired it they would send it out to test. When they received the results from their test jumpers, Donna told me that she didn’t like the results and they were not going to send that canopy back to me. She explained to me that they would send me as many demos of as many of their products as I desired until I decided what would be the best canopy for me and then they would build that canopy for me free of charge!! So first off they sent me a Spectre 170, which I loved the openings on but it was sort of boring to fly. I wanted to try a Spectre 150 in hopes that the increased wing loading would spice up the flight characteristics. They told me they would also like for me to try another Sabre 2 so I could see what they are supposed to be like but they didn’t have a Spectre 150 or a Sabre 2 170 or 150 available at the time so I asked her about the Katana. She said they had a 170 available but their demo coordinator, Kim, wanted to talk with me just to be sure that I knew what I was getting into before she sent it to me. Kim called me and we talked for about 15 min. about my background and what I had been jumping then she told me that she felt I could handle the canopy and agreed to send me the Katana 170. I really liked it and after jumping a Spectre 150 and a Sabre 2 150, I decided to order a Katana 170 as the replacement for my Sabre 2 170. Keep in mind that they paid for the shipping both ways every time they sent me another canopy. With the exception of the last canopy that I sent back, I paid the shipping that time, I figured that was the least I could do ; ) . Three weeks after I made my decision I had my brand new custom Katana 170 in my hands! They even sent me all of the “freebies” that comes along with it! I jumped it for the first time this weekend and I couldn’t be happier. Thank you PD and especially Donna, Robin and Kim for your outstanding support. I use the same device the exact same way as Phree described and I have been very happy with it with no problems from customers. Using Google, I found this review http://www.steves-digicams.com/2004_reviews/disc_steno_cp200.html I think it has been discontinued but maybe you can google it and find one on ebay or some where or find something similar out there. I have seen another brand recently here http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/312193-REG/Aleratec_310101_Digital_Photo_Copy_Cruiser.html Hope this helps. Blue Skies, Jason

Sony Mini DV tapes on Clearance
freefalljason replied to freefalljason's topic in Photography and Video
Your right. If you order at least 10 and use USPS priority or first class they would be $2.96 each. I usually check B&H and I will be sure to from now on. Looks like they are "on special" though(see little gold box above price in link below) so I may get some more soon. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/3results/controller/home?O=search&A=search&Q=&ci=4121&sb=bs%2Cupper%28ds%29&sq=asc&atl=%2CBrand_Sony Blue Skies, Jason -

OK so it looks like #4 is the winner! I have changed the font (see attached) although, I decided to keep the font the same throughout the card for simplicity. I think this will be a good design to give to students to maybe whit their appetite for what could be in their future. Thanks to everyone for their opinions. Blue Skies, Jason

I will probably stick with one image since the printer that I intend to use is running a special right now (1000 cards for $32.50) and I will probably never give out 1000 cards. Yeah, they will be printed on semi-gloss cards. Thanks, Jason
-
Not that I'm aware of. I'm pretty sure that was her only jump.(even though she obviosly enjoyed it)

Most will be given to tandems after their jump to give them my contact info just in case there is a problem with their DVD or if the didn't buy the pics and decide to later. Thanks, Jason

Hey Everyone, I am getting some new business cards printed and I can't decide which design to use, so I thought I would get some opinions. The one titled current is obviously the one I am using now but I wanted to do something with an image that I took. Feel free to let me know why you picked your choice. Thanks and Blue Skies, Jason

Here's one of my favorites. The hi res file is probably the sharpest I have ever taken. Blues, Jason

Here is the one I use: http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=guestpass&id=nc9w7. I need to make a new one but I can't seem to find the time with the little one running around now. Blue Skies, Jason -
I received my new black camera armor today from the ebay vendor that you posted earlier. I ordered it Mon. night and paid $48.88 with free shipping. I was pleased with the transaction and would recommend this seller to anyone looking for this product. I am really pleased with the product and I think it will work well to keep this camera from getting scratched up like my old 300d is. I don't intend to use the lens hood because #1 it won't work with the cradle that I have under my lens and #2 I think it would just flutter until it blew off in freefall unless you taped it on (forget that idea, tape won't stick to this thing ). As someone else said I will probably cut the hot shoe cover off to keep it from flopping around. Thanks for all your help. I can't wait to try it out in the air. Blue Skies, Jason

I just ordered one from the ebay vendor that you posted the link to. I'll let you know how it goes but his communication has been great so far. Thanks and Blue Skies, Jason

I wondered if it was still flying. It is sad to hear that it's not flying right now. I made my first jump and many jumps after that out of it here in TN. I miss that plane and I cherish the memories I have that are associated with it. Thanks and Blue Skies, Jason
