PM sent. Thanks. I'll send out some emails to those companies.

As a new jumper, looking for used gear has been a rough road for me. I look here and on ebay. I've found a few that might work, but by the time I hear back from my rigger and email them, the gear is gone. I don't know enough to feel comfortable making a decision alone. I've been looking for months. Are there any shops that specialize in used gear I should be looking at? I'd think I'd feel more comfortable about buying without speaking to my rigger then. Particularly if they'd take it back if it didn't fit me. I've made that offer with other sellers, even offering to cover shipping both ways if it didn't work, but no takers. I understand that it's probably difficult dealing with someone who knows nothing.

It certainly was. I had a beautiful weekend. I must have seen you at some point. -
Jumptown - Orange, Ma - You hereby have a new jumper

Did you make it up? I spent the whole weekend again. -
I don't. Even if it is them, I understand that jumping me is a different type of jump than diving with their peers. When you're paying per jump, you need to do what YOU enjoy. Some jumpers enjoy, and are better at, helping the new guy. I love my jump zone. Everyone is extremely friendly and treats you like family. I probably wouldn't have stayed with the sport if not for the folks at Jumptown.

Thanks. I absolutely have a blast jumping with experienced jumpers. I learn so much. I also jumped with someone who is more experienced than I am, but not by a lot. That showed me just how great the experienced jumpers are. They adjust their fall rate and it doesn't even look like they're moving. Someone less experienced is much harder to dock with. I just feel bad that I make them sit there and wait for me to get my act together. I can almost hear their groans as I blow past the formation.

Congrats to Two 101st Screaming Eagles

I'm a leg. -
We tried a few more times today, but each time one of us couldn't get in. I had a blast, though. Diving with a group is much better for me. I'm learning how to move, and get tips after every jump.

yeah, they nailed me with it last night. I made good.

Got my A license on my 25th jump and was asked to do a 4 way on my 26th. It's probably the last time anyone asks me to do a 4 way with them. We exited fine, but one guy dropped and couldn't get up, so we docked in a 3 way. We then broke to do a turn to the right and I was supposed to take the leg of the guy next to me. The next thing I knew my face was bouncing off the back of his helmet. I cleared the group and turned, but was to low to re-dock. so we broke and tracked. Sorry guys. It was a blast, though.

Jumptown - Orange, Ma - You hereby have a new jumper

+1 to Brian Grady. He's great, and has helped me immensely. Jumptown is still incredibly busy, and will be jumping for weeks to come. It was chilly today, but we had a blast. -
Bring your gear and get to Jumptown.

Then there is this. -
OK punks, so I take your advice and install Firefox...
martlet replied to skydiver30960's topic in The Bonfire
Odd. Have you updated everything? Turn on automatic updates. I'd also manually update everything now. Take a look at the firefox forums, too. Install ie view as an add on. That will help you on sites that are archaic, though there aren't many left. -
Awesome. Thanks! I'll give that a shot. I generally don't wear my lenses for the full two weeks. I usually toss them when they stop feeling good all day. That's probably because I sleep in them. Maybe I'll try the other cleaner you suggested. Don't all guys wear their undies more than once sometimes, and eat off dirty dishes when the cupboard is empty?
-
I wasn't aware. Maybe I should look at other contacts, or how I care for these. I use Oasys and the Replenish cleaner/drops. I don't rub them, just rinse them and store them in the solution. Sometimes I sleep in them, sometimes I don't. It depends on how they feel at the end of the day. I don't take any meds, except Aleve if I have a headache.

Thanks! I am proud of my jumps. I shouldn't beat myself up over my accuracy, particularly since I'm jumping various size student rigs. I'll work on it. I ordered those Birdz from ebay since they were so cheap. I'll probably pick up a pair of the WileyX too, if the Birdz don't work out. I can also get the prescription inserts for free. I'm looking for starter gear now, so I can practice better on the same rig.

I started jumping almost a month ago and only have 17 jumps. I'm having several problems that aren't "major", but inconvenient. First, I wear contacts. My eyes aren't that bad. If I lose them, I can see ok. I like to wear them because I do see better, and can pick up the wind sock a little higher in case things have changed on the ground. I'm still renting gear, so I just grab the goggles they have. The bottom holes are taped, so when belly flying I don't have a problem. When I start doing flips, I typically lose a contact or two. Are there goggles that are better for contacts? I'd rather not go full face, but will if I must. Can I just tape the top holes, too, or will that cause fogging? I'm in New England, so it's getting chillier. I also have a problem with accuracy. I land within 20 meters of the X, but I think I'm going to land right on it when I line up, then don't seem to make it. I'm guessing "practice makes perfect", but are there any tips I should be trying?

Republican supporters: How do you feel about the Religious Right?
martlet replied to SpeedRacer's topic in Speakers Corner
It's important not to confuse the religious right with extremists. Many people who make up the religious right are simply believers who also place the Constitution as their number one priority in politics, not religion. Obama, and many other Democrats, are regular church goers. Are they the "religious left"? -
In the case of the DZ I teach at, we do two tandems and then a level 2 AFF with two instructors. The program in whole is slightly more expensive than doing straight AFF, but we don't feel comfortable sending them on with just one person when they have never experienced flight w/o a person strapped to them. This is supposed to be about making skydivers, not cash and we don't make any more money off tandem progression people than we do on straight AFF. I'm obviously a noob with my 9 jumps in the past 2 weeks. I made it to AFF solo status in 7 jumps. My first 3 jumps were with 2 instructors, poised exit from inside. Watching the videos posted, my jumps were nothing like his. My instructors corrected my problems, allowing my first jump or two to gain confidence and comfort. They didn't let go from the moment we hit the door until I threw. Subsequent jumps with two, then one, instructor gave me just as much freedom as I "earned". I was shocked when I viewed these videos. I don't think I would have performed well under those conditions. I'm really thankful I had such great instructors, and an incredible club to learn at.

The mid term was what i was speakiing about. He would not goose step with the libs on the war, so he was dropped. AKA, he was and is a war monger. He is Jewish, there is probably a big part of him that says get teh Arabs. He was always a Repub in sheep's skin. But you made a reference that he was in line with Dems earlier. That's exactly the point that was made. If you miss the left's lockstep, you're labeled a neocon (or using your example of Lieberman, a war mongering Jew) and tossed. That skews the statistics.
-
In theory, yes. In practice, sometimes. It all depends on the level of accuracy you desire, the range, and your ability to tighten it to the same level. I, for one, will sight my weapon every time I change an optic. It often requires no adjustment, but there are times when the adjustments are pretty severe.
-
I agree. I cringe at special rates/deals for soldiers. We get reimbursed, and fairly quickly, too.

I went last weekend to cross skydiving off my list of things to do. I ended up staying the weekend, then coming back to complete the AFF course. I made my first solo jump yesterday. I think I'm hooked.
