  1. Some people have obviously never read, or don't respect, the Constitution.
  2. Me. Hey look, there's one. The place to ask would be in the classifieds.
  3. Why? Moderators are made up of members. I'll bet if they asked for volunteers, they'd get quite a few. Besides, the vast majority of transactions are positive, requiring no moderator involvement.
  4. How it works on the site I mentioned is something like this: All positive feedback, buy and seller, isn't moderated. It just gets tagged onto their name. For negative feedback, there is one forum that you post in, stating why you are leaving that person negative feedback. The moderators contact both parties and try to facilitate some resolution. If the the person submitting the negative feedback establishes a legitimate complaint, and it isn't resolved, the negative feedback is then attached. If it's resolved or the moderators determine negative feedback isn't warranted, then the thread is just deleted. If negative feedback is applied, then the person's account is often locked. This helps not only due to the negative feedback, but also the positive. If I go to purchase something on there, and I see several transactions resulting in positive feedback from this person, the transaction will often go easier due to less conditions or restrictions on the purchase or sale.
  5. It shouldn't be. There should be a feedback forum, as there are on most sites with a classifieds section, where you can give someone positive or negative feedback. One site I belong to actually goes a long way towards helping you resolve issues such as this, and if it is not resolved to their satisfaction they will lock the offending parties account. That doesn't help them much, but it keeps others from falling victim. In cases of fraud, they'll also post the party's name and address.
  6. You really should talk to your instructors. They are the people who know your skill level. I'm about 210 pounds. I started on a 280, worked down to a 240 after about 25 jumps. I just ordered a Sabre 2 210. Last week I jumped a 7 cell 210 and liked it. I prefer the Sabre 2, though. Again, talk to your instructors.
  7. Me either, which is why I still don't have a full face. I've never seen one at the DZ that fit me. It seems everyone has pin heads, or mine is like a hot air balloon. There are no stores near me.
  8. I can never figure out what size to order.
  9. There are a few of us in the military at my dz. We're the butt of military jokes. There are a few short guys. They're the butt of short jokes. There are a few chubby guys. They're the butt of fat jokes. Maybe we should all stop jumping so we feel better about ourselves. I could care less. We jump, we have fun, and we dump on each other. Who knows why. I don't care what they look like or who they bang. If they can jump and I can learn from them, I know just about everything I need to for now.
  10. Just to be clear, was this deal with 'likestojump'? The post your replying to is about 'likestojump', but your reply is a little vauge as to if it's about 'likestojump' or just a guy from the classifieds. If it is 'likestojump' in your story, provided that your account is accurate and complete, would be surprising given the multiple endorsements 'likestojump' has recieved in this thread. If you're talking about some other guy from the classifieds, I'm not surprised at all. After all this whole thread is about the ups and downs of private party to private party transactions via the mail. This has absolutely nothing to do with 'likestojump'. I apologize if that was the impression.
  11. He told you that? If so, okay, that sounds like poor business practice. I'm surprised. I wouldn't have expected that. And I am sure neither did you. It sounds like you have justification to have a poor opinion of his business practices. But still, you strongly implied that you would worry if he had your check. The one does not necessarily imply the other. You've every right to complain. Complaining about what he did is one thing. Complaining about what he might have done given the chance seems like something else to me. If you truly didn't mean to question his honesty, I guess it was just a heat of the posting moment sort of thing. Sorry to rag on you. Let me try to explain myself further, then. No apology necessary. Nobody is forced to agree with me, nor am I required to change my opinion because someone disagrees. I just have my opinion on how a transaction should be conducted. Regardless, you aren't getting the full picture since it would take forever to post. This deal was discussed in detail, and we reached an agreement. We each were also in contact with a third party, who verified the agreement with each of us, and it was verified again with each other. The understanding was pretty clear. I then sent my money as agreed upon. He then was made an offer larger than our agreement, and he accepted it then canned our deal. I don't think he would have kept my money. Then again, I never thought he would have gone back on the deal after it was made. That causes me to question his integrity. It also makes me glad my money went to a third party so that I don't have to wonder whether or not it would have been a problem. My point wasn't to whine about a deal gone bad, but to point out that a third party, even if not entirely neutral, can be a good idea. It's also an example of why many people don't WANT to be third parties, because now the third party feels bad. He shouldn't. Either way, I'll continue to trade with other jumpers. My word is my bond, and with few exceptions everyone I've dealt with has acted the same way. I wouldn't sell my integrity for 50 bucks.
  12. Just because the deal went sour does not mean he would cheat you. You've every right to be annoyed that the deal fell through, but to imply that you are worried he would take your money seems a bit overboard to me. I've never heard anybody say he wasn't honest. Deals sometimes fall through. That doesn't make the people dishonest. I wasn't implying that he'd cheat me. However, if someone lacks the integrity to follow through on a deal they made, that's been well discussed, and that the money has been sent on, then it brings their integrity into question across the board. When you say "I'm glad the money was in the mail to a third party, so it's safe...", I cannot help but get the impression that you think your check in his hand might not be "safe". I don't know why the deal fell through. Did he tell you? Maybe he decided the gear was not in good enough condition. Maybe he did you a favor. Because after we made the deal, someone else came along and offered him more money.

  14. Funny you should say that. I worked out a deal this week from the classifieds, put a check in the mail, then learned he changed his mind. I'm glad the money was in the mail to a third party, so it's safe, but I still think the guy is a douche.
  15. Maybe someone bagged a coyote and kept the pelt.
  16. The gear was "stolen" from the credit card company assuming they covered the unauthorized purchase. The gear probably belongs to the credit card company's insurance company now. Perhaps they could be contacted to see what they would like to do with it. They may be willing to simply let you keep it. This.
  17. I always say "thanks for the paycheck". I'm grateful for the opportunity to serve my country. I work for them.
  18. Am I a skydiver now? I always wanted to try it once, so I went straight to AAF. I've never done a tandem. I wanted to do it one time, and I wanted the full experience. I did my AAF class, then never left.
  19. Cosmoline can be a pain to remove. There are several good methods, some safe, some not. If you're planning on doing this more, you may want to build an oven. They are cheap and easy to make, and get rid of the cosmoline pretty easily. If you're interested, shoot me a link and I'll dig up some links to sites that have instructions.
  20. My search for gear over the past few months has been disappointing. I ended up ordering a new container from Skydive Store. Now I'll browse the suggestions you've given me in hopes of finding a main, reserve, and AAD.
  21. They're fun and relatively inexpensive to shoot. Look at what gun clubs or forums are in your area. I belong to a group, and we usually buy this stuff in bulk. We recently bought 4 cases of Mosins, and even including shipping the cost came out to 60 bucks each.
  22. I just ordered a Wings with an articulated harness and cut in laterals. My rigger said that was a great choice.
