  1. Humps, jumps, beer owed. (search "Beer Rules" for a full explanation of when beer is owed. Short version: Any "First") Me: 0, 0, 0 I was the only pilot available today, yesterday was too cold and too windy. But I flew 3 loads today, so I did have some fun
  2. Like any of us need to be hypnotized to do stupid shit. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  3. Disagree. I think 18 is a very reasonable age boundary after which most individuals would have the mental maturity to appropriately assess the risks versus the rewards of skydiving. Maybe "some" , depends on how gaurded a life they lead...Mine, (my best example) has been an active athlete his whole life, he competed at the world level this year in freeridng , at age 16 , with average age of his competitors being 25 ..."He" is more than capable of skydiving safely.... to hold back all, because of a few...sucks......JMO More like hold back a few because most aren't capable. There are a lot of 18 yr olds who aren't mature enough. I'd say your son is a pretty rare example. How many kids are skilled enough to compete against adult experts? 4. There are also a lot of people out there who have had some training and experience with firearms and are still very stupid. Wisconsin requires Hunter Safety education for anyone born after 1973 to get a hunting license. I volunteer at the local shooting range as a range officer, and the level of just plain idiocy that I see every year around this time would blow your mind. So this dude picked up what he thought was an air rifle, pointed at his friend and pulled the trigger. The story says both the shooter and the "target" were guests in the house. WTF was the homeowner thinking leaving a loaded rifle (even a 22) out when there were guests in the house? I know that keeping a rifle handy for pest control is not that unusual in some areas, and Vermont is pretty rural, but putting it away or at the very minimum telling the guests to leave it alone, it's real and it's loaded. Or maybe a guest was worried about a gun in the house and the owner said "Don't worry about it, it's only an air rifle." "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 5. And don't pay any attention to me, taking cover and plugging my ears over here "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  6. It's your choice, but S/L will get you to being a jumper, and either Green Bay Skydivers (it's actually in Pulaski) or Wolf River Skydivers (Shiocton) are an awful lot closer than Chicago. I am part of Wolf River, and it's a small, but fun DZ. I've jumped at GBSD and they are good people. There's also Twin Cities or Superior or Wissota, they all offer AFF though not quite as close as GBSD or WRS. Look in the DZ locator and see what's available. Just out of curiosity, what made you decide to go all the way to CSC for your first tandem? "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 7. Obviously, re: the physical acts. The defense will center upon Hassan's state of mind: mental illness; maybe under control of others, etc., etc. If those "others" are mentioned in the intelligence report, I can see why it's relevant to the defense. And if some of the sources of that info include stuff like surveillance techniques and devices and/or people under cover, etc. - sources and methods - I can see why the intelligence community would want to preserve its secrecy. What do you think Hassan's lawyers could do with that sort of information? (honest question) I know that "not guilty by reason of insanity" is a lot less common than the movies/TV lead us to believe. If Hassan contacted Al-Alwaki first, how much could they claim Hassan was "controlled". And couldn't the defense get those communications from Hassan's end too? Or do you see it more as a "fishing expedition" to see what they can find? Which is part of their job defending him. I do understand that he is entitled to the best defense possible, regardless of the crimes he is accused of (that's what our system is based on). 8. I'm gonna agree with that. The "professional tour guide" who probably does this sort of thing on a regular basis is a total cliche, but in this case I think it's true. And thanks for the new sigline, Lucky!
  9. No, minimum age for possession is 18. Minimum age to purchase from a dealer or to purchase ammunition from a dealer is 21. A subtle difference, but it's there. And most states have a minimum age of 21 for a carry permit. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 10. What they don't want released is "Sources and Methods". How well are US intel groups able to pick out e-mails and phone calls that the bad guys are making from the immense amount of traffic out there? Who is telling the US what is going on? Even if those exact details aren't in the report, stuff in the reports could reveal some of that stuff to the "bad guys." The linked report indicates that the report contains information from a wide variety of agencies. Getting all of them to remove all potentially "revealing" info would be a bureaucratic nightmare. And I have to wonder what the defense hopes to find in them. I find it hard to believe that there would be any mitigating information in any report. He was apprehended after being shot while commiting the crime (he was just about to shoot a wounded and defenseless cop IIRC). It's pretty clear that he committed the crimes he is charged with. 11. Well, isn't it obvious??? He must have "disappeared" there in order to covertly observe the Chinese ballistic missile test last week. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  12. Openly disagreeing with each other is freedom. Calling each other goat fuckers* is divisiveness. * when false Does intent have any bearing? I would think so. When the intent is to belittle, ridicule or otherwise bully your opponent, then it is divisive. Just like interrupting your opponent, refusing to answer questions, changing the subject or saying "That how liberals (or conservatives or whatever) argue". Not being willing to listen to and consider the merits as well as the liabilities of each others arguments (including the liabilities of your own arguments) isn't "freedom." However, if you are calling someone a "goat fucker" to distinguish them from sheep fuckers, cow fuckers or any other animal-sexual, then it is simply identifying them "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 13. Wow, those Bible Code interpretations are amazing! Especially at about 9:15. Ignorant people believe anything. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

  15. Well, he is the author of the piece. But since his last name is Diaz, I'd guess he pronounces it "Hayzoos". Not an uncommon name in some places. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  16. so don't discuss it until we know what it is. Is that like "we have to pass it to find out what's in it"?? Except what skyrider posted isn't a discussion. It's a plagiarized claim of things not in evidence. Plagerized?? How so? what proof do you have the author is wrong? Oh...only your opinion, the same thing the author has, other than people he quoted...Oh, thats right, he named sources... Plagarized as in copied directly from the source Wendy linked. And he didn't name it as a source (unless he did so in the original which you didn't provide a link to). And the site Wendy linked actually copied it from a different site HERE. Dated Nov 12. Authored by Wayne Madsen, not Charles Benninghoff. Read some of the comments on the prisonplanet site to get a feel for the quality of "critical thinking" going on by the supporters of this theory. And which "intelligence sources" did he name? "Japanes and other Asian intelligence sources?" "Navy intelligence sources?" "The White House?" I don't see a single named quote in the OP. Or the place he plagarized it from. Note: If the site you got it from credits Wayne Madsen as the original author, I'll retract the "Plagarism" charge, but it's still a load of interned bullshit. OH MY Gawd...I lost the link off my post...I should have known, another "how liberals argue" game! "How Liberals Argue?" How about "Where are the FACTS?" Where is the site you got it off of? Show me ONE named source in the article you posted. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

  18. Because stainless is so much harder than brass, the dies have to be a lot harder for stainless. The better ones I've seen also use a hydraulic press instead of just a hammer to set them. And they aren't cheap. HERE is the Para-gear grommets and setting tools page. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 19. I don't know. Remember, sleeve or no sleeve, the Pioneer was marked "max speed 150mph" (wasn't it?) Cossey was quoted in the Parachutist articles as saying how hard the openings would be on the NB-6. But my (limited) understanding of rounds is that the squiddding makes the deployments survivable (for both the jumper and the canopy). They may hurt, but they won't hurt you. 20. Your reasons, except for the ones above are pretty convincing. BUT... Although having any jump experience is a big step over having zero, paratrooper jumping is a completely different activity than sport freefall jumping. The paratrooper static line equipment is significantly different than the Emergency Bailout gear that Cooper jumped. The sport reserves (belly wart) from that era are almost identical to what the military used (and uses). And the Training Dummy Reserve wasn't "sewn shut". It was a functional reserve container with a canopy that had been seriously butchered to make it easier to stuff back into the container. It was used to train the students the "scoop and throw" reserve deployment technique they used. Anyone with any experience would be able to tell that there was something wrong with the Dummy reserve because it was "squishy" because the canopy volume was significantly less. And there was no way to properly attach the reserve to the harness on the NB-6. There were the D-rings for that purpose on the Pioneer sport rig (that was left behind) Whatever the reason Cooper chose the NB-6 and Dummy reserve, he had to know that it wasn't going to be able to be used as a functional reserve canopy. Perhaps one of the reasons he chose the NB-6 is that it was an emergency rig, presumably packed more carefully than a simple sport rig. Perhaps he couldn't figure out a way to carry the money and have a reserve attached to his chest, so he took the rig least likely to malfunction. 21. Well, Wendy showed that "Charles Benninghoff" probably didn't write it. I don't know if he really wrote any of THIS or not, but I don't have a whole lot of trust in anyone that puts his name on this kind of writing. 22. Lots of good advice here, to echo some and add a little: Mechanic's gloves (similar to the subcontractor gloves). Thin for dexterity and grippy, which you really really want. Put a latex/nitrile glove (doctor glove) underneath and you will be good. Multiple thin layers, not one big one. I go t-shirt, thermal shirt, long sleeve T, flannel shirt, sweatshirt. Thermal longies under jeans, and wool socks. I have a jumpsuit that will go over that. I have jumped with the ground temps right around freezing dressed like that and been fine. One thing to remember: You really won't feel the cold. I've gone out the door with the temp at -20F (twenty below zero) at altitude. The wind blowing in the door is really cold, but once out the door, I don't notice it until opening. It's a little chilly under canopy, but you really aren't exposed to the cold long enough for it to get too bad. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 23. Pops - the first step is admitting that you are powerless and that life has become unmanagable. The second step is coming to believe in a higher power that will return you to sanity (or return you to the sky). The third step is turning you entire life and will over to the sport, moving to a tent on the DZ and devoting your entire life to the sky. 24. Don't worry, I know what I'm doing. I've done it a thousand times before. Pilot last words: Don't worry, those fuel gauges always read low. No, there's plenty of room under that bridge. 25. When getting the number, I usually ask something like: "Are you going to be around tomorrow?" And call then. Or: "I'm tied up for the next couple days, will you be around on (insert day here)?" I try very hard to make stuff like that clear. I hate games and "don't call for 3 days" type rules. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit."
