Dunno about that, Jerry. They built Felix's rig, didn't they? And I have to say that Kelly and the crew there are wonderful to work with. They did a very nice job building mine a couple years ago. I'd get another in a heartbeat if I needed to. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

Parachute Performance Factors
wolfriverjoe replied to spinglebout's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Interesting. You ask "What factor most influences canopy performance?" and get two very smart people (possibly 2 of the smartest and most experienced on here) answering you. And nobody has said "SIZE" yet. Or wingloading. Isn't that the biggest factor? Take 2 canopies, identical in shape, construction, planform, materials, all that. The smaller one will be faster and more responsive. If identical weights are under it, the difference will be significant. If the weights are proportioned in respect to the size (equally loaded) then the smaller will still be faster and more responsive, just not as much. That's a huge part of what makes a JVX a HP canopy when a Navigator isn't. The X-brace is a factor, so is the elliptical shape. But most of it is the fact that the JVX will be 1/3 the size of the Nav. And loaded more heavily. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Well, it's pasteurized these days and will last a while, but it goes bad eventually. But it's Bud Light, right? Nobody will know the difference. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

What is the best E-cig? SkydiveTwinCities one is?

It's both. That's one of the reasons quitting smoking can be so hard. Breaking both the nicotine addiction and the behavioral habits at the same time can be difficult. That's why stuff like this can help (gum, patches, ect) "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo -
I would suggest your mechanics do some actual research. The "Lead In Avgas" myth has been around for a long time. And it was debunked a while back. FAA Letter: http://www.eaa.org/autofuel/images/letter-2.pdf EAA article on operation after an overhaul: http://www.eaa.org/autofuel/faqs/engine_overhaul.asp#TopOfPage From the article: There is a suggestion to use 100LL for the first 10 hours after a Top Overhaul to deposit a small amount of lead. But after that, it's uneccessary. My old DZ ran 2 182s exclusively on AutoGas. No notable problems. We also had our own tank, which would sit partially filled over the winter. No issues with the gas in it come spring. To the OP: Read through the EAA site on AutoGas. They jumped through all the hoops with the FAA to get it approved back in the 80s. It was a very long and involved process. Thousands of hours of testing. Dozens of engines run for long periods of time and then torn down and inspected. It was not a "rubber stamp" approval. I was going to say Guns, Cartridges, Tools, Cars and "Parts I have replaced or fixed on my Porsche." Part names, I can't do the numbers without looking it up in the catalog. Do you want an apartment next to Skydive Chicago?
wolfriverjoe replied to knjump's topic in The Bonfire
Oh yes. Walk, bicycle and golf cart. I've been to Summerfest every year since 09. We camp all the way in the back for peace and quiet, so I've been through it a few times. It's a wonderful place, other than the water being a little stinky. And the older cabins were quite nice when I was there. Heat and electicity, maybe even A/C, but it was May so I didn't need it. How the hell did you pull that off??? Ya know? I think he's just deciding that it would be best to be out of the country for a while until the "heat cools off." Ok, thanks. My stay was in 09, before the new ones were built. They were perfectly fine for my needs at the time, but the lack of water/toilets was a little inconvenient. Ok, that was cool. I understand that it is marketing, and advertising, and at the end you see that Best Buy was one of the sponsors. But it was cool, even knowing all that. Thanks for posting it.

Sign Language "Interpreter" at Mandela Memorial
wolfriverjoe replied to wolfriverjoe's topic in Speakers Corner
I think this is ridiculous enough to belong in the Bonfire, but because it contains the names "Mandela" and "Obama", it would get moved here pretty fast, so... The so-called sign language interpreter at the Mandela memorial service was not using any sign language known to any deaf people. He was pretty much randomly waving his hands and fingers around. He now claims it was a "Schizophrenic Episode" and that he is a "Champion Signer" but there are videos of previous incidents where his sign "Interpretation" was random hand waving. Watch the video in the link to see the difference between the poseur and the real sign interpreter. I don't know much ASL, but even I can see that the gestures and movements made by this idiot are fake. And that's what I like about the South. Not just the South, Ron. (and not everywhere in the South either). Wisconsin included similar wording in their CCW law. Except for primary schools (Elementary, Middle and High Schools), no one can make any restrictions on possession of legal items in a person's car. But on any primary school property, including parking lots, weapon possession (not just guns) is a felony. And a quick search shows that South Carolina and Tennessee allow employers to prohibit guns in employees cars on company property. Well, if you follow the link in the spam ad, I'd guess you can find a pic. I kinda doubt that it would fit into the theme of the "Glory" thread, but that's up to you. Do you want an apartment next to Skydive Chicago?
wolfriverjoe replied to knjump's topic in The Bonfire
I think it's a serious question, which means it shouldn't be here in BF. Personally, I camp out when I go down there, but a nice apartment (it will have a full kitchen and bathroom, right?) at a little above hotel prices might be nice. I've stayed in the cabins they have, but they are little more than a roof above your head. Power, but no water or sanitation. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Well, THANK YOU! I was happy to have seen it in the original, but knowing that you were diligent enough to save it and be able to share it here in the Bonfire where it belongs (sort of anyway) earns my respect. Not that that's worth a whole lot, but you know what I mean. Concrete Rebound Hammer - Not just for breakfast anymore! There was a spam ad for one in the Safety &Training Forum. And lurch and a few others took it and ran with it, expounding the virtues and risks of it. Absolutely hilarious. It stayed up for a couple of days, but was removed this afternoon. It pays to read the topical forums in addition to the fuckery in here. PBS had a Frontline special on last night about Mandela. A little bit of halo-polishing, but overall pretty good. The most striking thing about it was his unwavering insistence on being treated as a human being, being treated with dignity. And treating others the same way, no matter what. That carried over to when he became President. No reprisals, no revenge, nothing like that. He even invited the widows of the former leaders (Botha's widow among them) to a lunch, where they sat and talked like it was the most natural thing in the world to do. Compared to what happened in other places (Rhodesia/Zimbabwe is the best comparison), it was an amazing act of compassion and forgiveness. South Africa is far from perfect, and has deteriorated a fair amount since Mandela left office, but it's a long, long way from the chaos that is Zimbabwe.
