It's all good. She seems to wish to acknowledge her father's heritage (he immigrated in '68, according to the Snopes article). But... The 'haters' feel a need to attack her. Not her position advocating gun control. Her. Gotta wonder how many of these attackers have said things about how bad 'bullying' is? Questions - just did AFF Level 1

One way to better understand "upwind" and "downwind" is to replace the "wind" with "stream". If you are in a river, going with the current takes you downstream. Going against the current takes you upstream. For the pattern, we typically do a standard, rectangular landing pattern. Downwind leg, going with the wind, opposite the landing direction, past the intended landing point. 90 degree turn to the base leg, which takes us across until we are in line with our landing point (where the landing point is directly upwind). 90 degree turn to the final approach leg, where we fly straight into the wind to the landing point. The actual layout of the pattern, particularly the points where you make your turns, can vary due to the wind. It's a bit easier to understand with airplanes because the the pattern is lined up with the runway being used for landing. Landing a parachute can be a bit different because, if the landing area allows, we can land in just about any direction we choose - it doesn't take a long runway to land. As noted, this is important. Make sure you understand the landing direction, proper pattern, holding area and the altitudes you should be making transitions and decisions at. Most DZs have an aerial photo for this. Many have them laminated and use dry erase markers to lay out the appropriate pattern for the conditions at that particular time. Last - Don't worry a whole lot about standing up the landing. Doing a proper PLF can save your butt. It's really easy to focus so hard on a stand up landing, and not PLF when you should, and end up with a sprained ankle, knee or worse. If everything goes right, you may find yourself just above the ground, moving quite slow as you finish your flare. If that happens, then you just put your feet down and walk or run out the landing. Otherwise, just roll with it. (Sorry, couldn't resist ) "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo -
There's a meme running around and it said something about taking her serious with a communist flag on her sleeve. The flag was Puerto Rico. No, it was a Cuban flag. Her father was born there. Here’s the problem with cherry picking verses and inserting your own meaning into them. If you read what’s before and after, it explains things which will occur with the judgment of Jerusalem which did occur. But it does not say that Jesus will return in the lifetime of the apostles. Actually, in other verses, it explains that it will be a very long time before he returns. That’s good for those of us who need time to come to our senses. He says "In this lifetime". That's there and in other verses. I'm not sure what 'meaning' I'm inserting into those words. You just said “While I am a sinner (biblical term).” Sin is defined in scripture as “transgression of the Law (1 John 3:4),” referring to God’s moral Law (The 10 Commandments). That's funny. I seem to remember a lot more 'sins' than just those laid out in the "big 10." And, just like there's a difference between going, say 10 over the speed limit or a rolling stop and reckless or intoxicated driving, I would expect that there's a difference in sins. Or does 'your' God condemn anyone who transgresses in any way to the pits of hell? You weren’t created to be a sinner. You’re a sinner because you choose to sin. The “Devil made me do it” excuse doesn’t even work in our judicial system. It won’t in God’s court either. Make up your mind. Either we were created sinners (or that choice was made a long, long time ago) or we weren't. ***I believe they were Christian in name only, similar to what we call RINOs. They never experienced true salvation. Judas Iscariot is the Biblical example of a make believe Christian. First off, how would Jesus have fulfilled his role if Judas had not betrayed him? By turning Jesus into the Romans, Judas played perhaps the most important role in Jesus' death. I'm not totally convinced he was a bad person. And your "CINO" folks: Would you consider those who 'find Jesus' with words and not deeds among them? Would you think that someone who proclaims that they have been "saved" yet absolutely, completely and totally refuse to follow Jesus' teachings while still here on earth to be a "true Christian"? Not his statutes, his "justice". To what exactly do you refer? Luke 21: 32-33 is one. There are others. But you’re already guilty of being a liar, thief, adulterer, etc. That’s like a criminal saying I murdered so and so but for 10 years I helped granny across the street to make it alright. Ummm... No. You are the one accusing me of being a 'murderer, liar, thief, adulterer, ect'. While I am a sinner, I am far from a 'evil' person. Just trying to get through the world as best I can. God created you but he’s never…I repeat…never caused someone to sin. You are in fact responsible for your actions. I agree that I am responsible for my actions, but I also agree with Jakee when he pointed out that you claimed it's impossible for us not to sin because God made us that way. Since he created us as sinners, how is it not his fault that we sin? No more that it's the cat's fault that he eats mice. A guilty criminal stands in court before the Judge who’s about to place sentence and he asks the Judge what’s wrong with him? Maybe that satisfies the criminal in some way but justice will take its course regardless. Huge difference between a criminal standing in front of a judge about to be sentenced and standing in judgement before God. The judge did not create the criminal. The judge did not create the laws that the criminal broke. If I have to stand before God, it would not be as a criminal would stand before a judge, but far, far different. And I honestly have no fear of that. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

Well, I've been looking for some time and have yet to find any intellectual argument or persuasion. Simply emotionalism, fear and superstition. “Capricious and random” declared by you. What’s amazing is the patience God has demonstrated with those today who continually sin against him. As an atheist, you’ve obviously not made God the top priority in your life. If that be the case, you’ve idolized and assigned other things in your life a higher value. I assume that, in spite of your disbelief, you’ve used the Lord’s name in vain. Keeping his day holy would be out of the question. I’m sure you’ve not always honored your parents. If you’ve ever hated another without just cause, you’ve committed murder in your heart. If you’ve ever looked with lust outside the covenantal bounds of marriage, you’ve committed adultery in your heart, if not also in deed. If you’ve ever stolen something, regardless of value or when, you’re a thief. If you’ve ever told a lie, you’re a liar. If you’ve ever dwelt on the desire to have something which doesn’t belong to you, you’re guilty of coveting. Before questioning the Lawgiver, you ought to examine yourself and figure out how you’re going to do when you stand before the Judge when you die. Well, I asked you to explain. You responded with classic "gaslighting." Which is your usual tactic. I mentioned it a page or so back. "Capricious and random" according to me, and to the entire legal community and insurance industry. "Act of God" is a legal term. Meaning an unpredictable action (usually a calamity) that has no apparent reason or meaning to it. While "God's patience" may be amazing to you, I find the patience of the believers to be even more so. The Bible quotes Jesus as saying he'd be back in the lifetime of the apostles. Yet it's been almost 2000 years and lots of people are still waiting. You ask me about my 'sins." Well, I'm an imperfect human. I have the same emotions and instincts as everyone else. My priority isn't on God. It's on being the best person I can be. Being of service to my community and my fellow man. To try to see where I fell short today and to try and do better tomorrow. And as a human being, I am curious and (somewhat) intelligent. Either by evolution or created by God. So if God created me that way (and created me as a sinner too), why would He punish me for being exactly what He created? I'm not really worried about what happens when I die. I have no reason to believe I will be anything but dead. I may, however be wrong. If so, and I "stand in judgement", then I plan on asking Him what the fuck is wrong with Him. It depends on the canopy and the wingloading. I've had brake fires on a Triathlon at 1:1. The spin was reasonably fast, and got faster. Rear riser (more than 'just a hair') stopped the spin. I've also had them on a Sabre2 at about 1.15:1. Much faster, rear riser does not stop the spin. I had to pop a toggle to stop it. And there was an incident a few years ago where a brake fire was fatal. The jumper fought it for too long, ended up way too low and cut away too late. In what way, shape or form would this have affected the recent shooting? The shooter wasn't a student. He used a rifle that, even if taken apart, would not have fit in a backpack. This is a "do something, do anything" solution that won't have any real effect. And the student activists understand that. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Probably, but that doesn't mean that the teachings of Christ have no meaning or value. It's a shame that so many 'so-called Christians' ignore those and focus only on the 'died for our sins' and 'accepting Him as Savior' part. Jakee has lots of intelligent things to say. The fact that he asks uncomfortable questions, questions you can't or won't answer doesn't mean he's "running off at the mouth". So, to get back on topic. You claim that God's judgement is "righteous" and "perfect". I asked you how that can be true, given the capricious and random nature of "God's Judgement" both as 'recorded' in the Bible and shown in everyday life. Care to explain? I do. You've ignored them since you got sucked up into this off topic gun nonsense. He's ignored all of the serious questions. That's what he does. I'm somewhat surprised he hasn't tried the 'how is your soul' or 'what kind of sins do you have to repent for' distraction technique that he's used in the past. Well, some people think that they get to define what a "real American" is. Not too surprisingly, it's someone just like them. Well, you can always start at the top. Trump spent all or part of the weekend at a Trump branded property 76% of the time in the first year. How much did that cost the US government (and the American taxpayers)? And how much of that cost went into Trump's pocket? "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." That's what confuses me. It appears that the students in the article are planning an anti-abortion protest which seems to be inline with the conservative agenda. Well, some people seem to think that protesting something they agree with is great. But protesting something they disagree with makes the protesters 'dupes' or 'brainwashed tools of the liberal elite' or some similar garbage. And, of course, these same people are certain that those who think differently from them will have the exact same reaction when confronted with protests about stuff that doesn't agree with them. So these fools call the student's protesting about lax gun regulations those names (tools, dupes, whatever) and expect the liberals to call the anti-abortion protesters the same thing. While I have been disgusted in the past by anti-abortion protesters using younger kids (as young as 7 or 8 in some cases), the idea that a teenager cannot form intelligent opinions about causes is... Stupid. Sure, some of them care more about Justin Beiber, Taylor Swift or eating laundry detergent than politics or moral issues. But some actually care about shit that matters. It doesn't matter if I agree or disagree with their opinion. They are entitled to it. It just seems like some people think that everyone hates and disparages those they disagree with. Which is pretty far from the truth. Many people, including me, firmly believe that everyone is entitled to their opinion. And allowed to express it in a civil manner. I have far less tolerance for opinions based on false info, bigotry or hypocritical moral 'superiority', but even the KKK has the right to say what they want and to peaceably assemble. So while I personally disagree with both the kids protesting abortion rights and gun rights, I don't think either of them are 'dupes', 'tools' or garbage like that. I actually admire their willingness to put forth the effort to make a statement about what they believe in. Unlike certain people. Follow "first down" or landing direction indicator?
wolfriverjoe replied to fcajump's topic in Safety and Training
I'm going to guess (and it is just a guess) that the folks who are voting 'follow the guy' are more from DZs that have a 'first man sets pattern' policy, and the ones voting 'land the right way' are from "set landing direction" places. And there's absolutely no excuse for not knowing and following DZ policy. If you don't know, ask. If you forget, ask again. Every once in a while, someone will ask "what's the landing direction again?" on jump run. Maybe they completely forgot. Maybe they weren't 100% sure and wanted a confirmation. Maybe they just wanted to make sure everyone else remembered it. I've never heard anyone ask why. Or comment that they should have remembered. Simply an "east" or "west" shouted out. The other problem is that in such an insular situation, it's easy to ignore the fact that other people's point of view has any validity. My biggest problem with Ron isn't his choice of living situation. It's his repeated assertion that people who don't think, believe, act or look like he does are the "enemy." They are also Americans and have the same rights, responsibilities and privileges that he does. He seems to ignore that. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." When you're watching CNN today, they're talking about Trump and his tryst with the porn star, and then on Fox News, they're talking about the Austin, TX bomber. Yep. There's your difference.
