  1. I didn't jump with an RSL on tandems, but I did jump with the Skyhook a few times. Derek
  2. Ya, but they are getting expensive, hard to get odds on a sure thing. Derek
  3. LOL, ya those tickets are expensive now, supply vs. demand. He may be on to something though. Someone tampered with my motorcycle. When I took the ocver off and tried to start it this morning, it wouldn't start. Someone had removed the cover, turned the switch on the throttle side to 'Off', and put the cover back exactly as I had it before. I can't believe someone would do that, I mean what if I hadn't seen the switch? People will tamper with anything. Derek
  4. No one tampered with your gear. You didn't un-collapse that side. If someone wanted to tamper with your gear, they wouldn't have collapsed 1/2 of your slider and left the rig unbpacked so you could see it when you packed. It is obvious why you are on the list. Are there any more positions available in the pool? I'll throw in $10.00. Derek
  5. Like Ron said, you ground him, he dies somewhere else. You use things like the list and maybe you save him, which is the goal. The list exists because people care. Derek
  6. Either the person wises up or becomes such a safety issue they are sent packing. They would end up on the same list if talking to them had no effect. No need for multiple lists. I would think if it was that bad, they would ground them. That tends to be very rare though. A lot of jumpers have ego issues early on in their skydiving career. A list like this is a way of working through that when all other efforts fail, like an intervention (as someone else mentioned), a last ditch attempt before giving up. The objective is to save the jumper, not make money. Derek
  7. So if someone had the potential to be a good skydiver, but was being unsafe and not listening to anyone, you would give up on them instad of using creative measures to try and see them reach their potential? That seems like the easy way out to me. The list is a creative way to try and get through to someone. If you ground someone, they go to another DZ where you can't continue to try and get through to them. They become someone else's problem, again the easy way out. Groundings should be reserved for short 'wake-up' calls and for people that should not jump at any DZ, anywhere. If it is silly, but it works, it's not silly. BTW- how did you manage to mis-spell my name????? Did you assume I mis-spelled it and corrected it for me? Just curious. Derek
  8. You do not understand the purpose of this list then. It is for jumpers that refuse to listen. The S & TA, DZO, anyone could talk to these people til they are blue in the face without making a dent. I know, I've done it. This DZ feels that people should be allowed to take their own deciscions and doesn't seem to want to ground people. So if all your other suggestions besides being grounded are used to no avail, they can be put on this list as a wake up call. I like that they give people every chance. Veter_: You are lucky to be jumping at the Ranch, other DZ's would have simply grounded you as white_falcon would if he was the DZO. As it is you are being given a 3rd, 4th? chance to straighten up and fly right. Derek
  9. Start listening, clearly you do not do that very well. You are on the list for a reason, if I had to guess, it is because you do not listen and repeat mistakes that have been made before. You got some very good advice in this thread, you just don't like it. Don't ask questions you don't want to hear the answers to. You seem unwilling to consider the possibility that you belong on the list. You should start there. Derek
  10. http://www.negative-shock.net/view-371 Derek
  11. I didn't have thaty Katana 600 very long when the throttle got me in trouble, I couldn't let off the throttle because I had to hang on. The bike was accelerating and I couldn't roll off the throttle without falling offf the bike. Faster bikes are more dangerous than smaller bikes. New riders should not buy bigger bikes. They should rely on others with experience to tell them what maximum size to get because they have no experience to make that choice for themselves. Smaller canopies are more dangerous than larger canopies. New skydivers should not buy smaller canopies. They should rely on others with experience to tell them what size to get because they have no experience to base that choice on for themselves. There are differences between bikes and canopies, but the issues are very similar. A lot of people want too much performance too soon. Derek
  12. $240.00/year for comprehensive ($500 detuctable) including $1000 for accessories. This is for a new 2004 CBR 600RR. Derek
  13. What is the big deal? As long as the start level limit is close, what does it matter if it is a little high or a ittle low? What would it hurt if the limit for a first canopy was set a little too low of a wing loading? What would it hurt if the recommended cc's for a first bike was set a little too small? Choice is great, but if it is your first bike/canopy, what are basing your choice on? You have next to no experience to base the decision on. Derek
  14. You can still do it, you pass the loop through the finger-trapped section instead of the other end of the line. Derek
  15. Then we agree, because that is the entire point of the article. Slow is relative. If someone started too fast because they didn't know any better, is it hyprocrisy to tell others of their mistake? Or shoud they look the other way when a new jumper gets too small of a canopy for their first canopy, just like they did? Should a seasoned, experienced rider not tell a new rider of their bad experience with an over-powered first bike? Just because I got away with some stupid choices doesn't make them good choices. It doesn't make me a hypocrite for telling others they shouldn't repeat my mistakes. My first bike was a Katana 600. My first canopy was a Monarch 135. Neither was a good choice, but I didn't know any better. Derek
  16. Yes, the no-sew fingertrap can be used, or you can bar-tack the fingertrap. Knots are bulky/ugly. Derek
  17. I agree. A thought out, smart progression is the way to go. That is the whole point of the original article as it relates the motorcycles. a) That wasn't my first canopy. I didn't progress as I should have, but I didn't know it until later. I had no way of knowing because I didn't have the experience. b) Having flown a small canopy doesn't mean that I think others shouldn't, just that if that is their goal, they should be smart/safe about it. Derek
  18. Which will do nothing against Skyride. Revoking the GM was the strongest thing they could do. What else could they do if they were still a USPA GM DZ? Derek
  19. I said the passing on of lessons like "Do not jump an ROL when free-flying, I did and it sucked when I had a pre-mature deployment." Not banning hook turns and BSR's. You called it hypocrisy to say, “Don’t do what I did.” I disagree. Is it hypocrisy to pass on hard learned lessons? I don’t think it is. Derek
  20. What if they are shooting guilty people? What if they are shooting guilty people for money? Does it matter why they are shooting them if they are guilty? Don't believe everything you read. Derek
  21. They couldn't do anything before. This is the strongest action they could take. USPA has no authority. Derek
  22. Doesn't that allow the sport to grow? Doesn't learning from the mistakes of those that came before us prevent us from making the same mistakes? Isn't that the point of accident investigations? Figure out exactly what happend and prevent it from happening again? What you call "hypocrisy", I call "growth". Imagine where skydiving would be if the hard learned lessons were not passed on. Derek
