Good, but not everyone thinks the same way you do. Derek
-
No, there isn't. The suggestion is do not accept a risk level because you have a Cypres that you wouldn't accept without a Cypres. Having an AAD in your rig is good. Derek
-
Yes, I should have clarified it better. My point is nobody intends to lose altitude awareness or expects their altimeter to quit on them. When it does, if they are not ready and using their eyes for altitude first and their altimeter as a back up, they could lose altitude awareness. Derek

NO ONE SAID DO NOT USE AN AAD! Derek

What can we do about Skyride?
Hooknswoop replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yo mean let you off the hook? No way. Too bad you work for crooks, like I did. I told anyone that would listen what they were up to and quit working there. Turning a blind eye doesn't make it go away or make it right. Whether you like it or not, you make to decide. Are you going to continue to work for crooks or not? Derek -
How many people have lost altitude awareness because their altimeter didn't work? I know of a bunch. You ought to see that tandem video. Derek
-
Like I already said, reserves and harness can and have failed. Not what I am saying at all. Did you read about the skydiver that had been saved by her Cypres once before that had trouble pulling, so she concetrated on keeping stable and waited for her Cypres to fire? That is what I am talking about. Some jumpers do not treat back up devices as back up devices. It is a way of looking at how to make a decision. Do you factor in your seat belt or airbag when you decide how to drive? I hope not. Same thing for AAD's, altimeters, etc. Drive like you don't have them and skydive like you don't have them. I don't know anyone that drives faster because they have an airbag, but I do know skydivers that make riskier jumps because they have a Cypres. Derek

What can we do about Skyride?

Research Skyride, all the info is right here in this thread. If you are willing to continue to support criminals, then yes, I think it does compromise your integrity. Derek -
What can we do about Skyride?
Hooknswoop replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That is a cop-out. If you are aware of a crime being committed and do nothing, what does that make you? Isn't that what some of the Enron Execs said, along with some other very unsavory characters from history? Derek -
What can we do about Skyride?

The information is available, right here in this thread. You don't care if what they are doing is illegal? That lowers you way down in my book. You have a moral responsibility to take a stand against Skyride scamming people. Read this thread and go to the links where Skyride's scam is explained in detail. I don't hate you, I think you should find some integrity and do what is right. No, I wouldn't. I have been in a similar situation and stood up for what is right. It cost me a lot (skydiving), but I came out ahead with my integrity intact. Derek -
I said you need a harness and reserve a while ago, I never thought or posted that you didn't.................. I don't pick on needing a rig, because, well, you need it. You can jump and live without an AAD, RSL , etc. I think back up devices are great, but when they become primary and not back, I have a problem with how they are being used. A rig is necessary, an AAD isn't. Derek
-
Again, you are not reading my entire post. This is what I wrote in the other forum: "Jumping with an AAD is great, but making a jump because you have an AAD that you wouldn't do w/o an AAD is a false sense of security. One MUST think in the terms that the AAD won't work since it might not. If a jumper bounces because their altimeter fails, they should not have ever left the airplane because altimeters can and do fail. They should be treated strictly as a back up to the jumper's own senses." I agree that humans need all the back up they can get, but then DON'T RELY ON THAT BACK UP, because if you do, it is no longer back up. By all means, use an altimeter, a Cypres, etc, but do not rely on them. Work like mad to save yourself and only if you fail should any of these ever be used. You (hopefully) wouldn't drive faster because you have an airbag and you wouldn't (hopefully) make a skydive you woudn't make because you have a Cypres, altimeter, RSL, whatever. Derek

What can we do about Skyride?

I didn't expect a reply, just food for thought, presenting the question for him to think about. Just to make sure he realizes that is the choice that he has to make. Derek -
What can we do about Skyride?
Hooknswoop replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
So you ARE aware of Skyrides illegal activities? Derek -
"True. You have to depend on your harness and reserve." Again, you are either only cutting and pasting part of my post, or are only replying to part of my post. You need to read ALL of my post before repsonding. I never siad you didn't need gear, exactly the opposite actually. Derek

What can we do about Skyride?
Hooknswoop replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Now that you are aware that 1) Skyride uses illegal business practices, etc and 2) ASC and Skyride are owned by the same people, will you continue to support ASC/Skyride? Derek -
What can we do about Skyride?
Hooknswoop replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Since you aware what Skyrides does now, by continuing to support it, you support the scamming, etc. You can't claim ignorance anymore. You are in a position to take a stand and make a difference. This is a test of your integrity. Let's see how you do. Derek -
What can we do about Skyride?
Hooknswoop replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Because I am against people breaking the law and scamming people. It doesn't have to be me they are scamming for me to be against it. Derek -
What can we do about Skyride?
Hooknswoop replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Kallend said it better than I could, but I'll add my 2 cents anyway What they are doing is wrong and illegal. I don't care if someone else is doing it, it is still illegal and wrong and needs to be stopped. 1) Do you deny that Skyride is breaking the law? 2) Do you think that a company that is breaking the should not be stopped and puinished? How an you sleep at night trying to defend a business that is clearly breaking the law and is wrong? Do you have integrity? Wake up! Derek -
What can we do about Skyride?
Hooknswoop replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Because what they are doing is wrong and I like it when justice is served and people get what they deserve, positive or negative. Skyride, like the Enron CEO, didn't do anything to me personally, but I am glad they went to jail and would be happy to see the owner(s) of Skyride get what they deserve also. I'm all about fairness. I don't think turning a blind eye to illegal business practices and trying to focus how much money they are making for me would sit well with my integrity. Derek -
What can we do about Skyride?
Hooknswoop replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
To keep awareness up, to inform people of Skyrides illegal business practices, to educate DZO's about what Skyrid really does, etc. All skydivers are being wronged by Skyride. Derek -
What can we do about Skyride?
Hooknswoop replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
How do you figure? They are breaking the law and it is only a matter of time before they are made to pay for their crimes, that is a silver lining, justice. None, why? Derek -
What can we do about Skyride?
Hooknswoop replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think the people involved in any legal procedings will keep mum about it till it's over. Derek -
What can we do about Skyride?
Hooknswoop replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The silver lining is putting Skyride and their illegal practices out of business, not trying to paint it as a good thing for skydiving. That is like saying why focus on all the bad landings and look at all the good landings. The bad landings need to be fixed, not the good ones. Derek -

Ya, that was just a general statement from pervios posts like freefallmama1 and others. Derek
