  5. Go and have FUN!! I got back this last weekend (Safety Day) after a 2-year break. Well, actually 3 years because I only did one jump the year before... Only got one jump on Saturday, the wind was really kicking up. I didn't want to push the issue and end up with an injury. So, I'll be back in another week to pund out a few more. Be Safe. 10. I use a pretty basic Polar Heart Rate Monitor for most of my workouts.. It helps a HUGE amount.. Starting out I was really concerned at how tired I got and how sore. Bought the Polar and started monitoring my treatmill/elliptical work. I was going WAY over Max heart rate with the exercise settings I "thought" would work. I picked my heart rate for "calorie burn" based on age and gender then started exercising to keep in that zone... At first I thought the workout was too easy, then realized I gould exercise longer when I wasn't jut burning and going anerobic. Yes, it is a chest strap, but the set was a very fair price and like mentioned, it works with the gym equipment... I like to set the heart rate program and speed, the treatmill adjusts the incline to keep my heart rate in the zone. Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!

Amstalder, if you did this at USNA, you must have learned "red bench"... My Swab year at CGA, the Cadre were not allowed to have us "Hang Around" or "Red Bench".. But funny, somehow I still learned what they are Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!

  15. On a serious note - I quit chewing tobacco back in 2001… Trying cold turkey did not work well for me. Acting like more of an ass than usual, not feeling well… Just not good... The Gum did not work for me either... However, the Patches where you start on a strong dose and work your way down after a week or two DID!! This is a big thing to do and you will be very glad when you quit... But, do get some help with it. The price was no big deal for how much easier it was for me... Literally, I put the patch on and could feel myself relax from the craving/withdrawal… Good Luck… Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!

Oh, you are not as much a Dork as I... We drove down last night and stayed at Tehachapi.... Checked the NASA Site and we were right on the money I've wanted to see it in person for over 20 years.. We also really wanted our son to see it... 19. I remember them pushing the prototype design out of the Cal City Otter and having the landing controlled by radio on the ground.. Pretty cool stuff for a guy who likes radio control and skydiving... Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  20. Seb.. It was fun completing the AFFI course with you and racing to the otter trying not to trip getting the tandem rigs on.. Even climbing up and over the fence with ladders.. I have not jumped since May and only jumped three times last year. The hardest thing for me is to still think "what will I do without my AFFI, Tandem, Pro and Static Line I [laughing] ratings.... But, I spend a weekend a month now camping with my son and his boy scout troop. I have to rush to keep up with house work in our new digs and really enjoy living with my fmily compared to driving so many hours just to watch the weather .. I now exactly how you feel bud.. I hope everything is great with you Mon Ami... Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  21. Sorry to hear that hon.... Is there some specific trauma you can tie the stress fracture to?? I just ask, because maybe you can still work with a sports therapist or physical therapist at your school.. Sometimes the trainers are very willing to work with you to get you going again.. Or, if you have a PT or Sports Therapy Department, they may be willing to work with you as a test case or class project… Hope you heel up fast and well
  22. Completely Freaky.. You just changed Avitar from reading the "other" thread to this one... I was like, how the hell did she do that.. Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  23. Sorry I just saw this, but I'm a little slow... OK, I have been diagnosed with Plantar Fasciitis and have never had to wear night splints! Now, there may be different degrees, but I think you may have some good options. I went through all kinds of stuff... Went to an ortho and got some nice cortisone shots right into my Heels... Holy crap that hurt!!!.. That only helped for a week and the pain was killing me again.. Then, I went to see the podiatrist and he fit me for some RIGID arch supports.. They caused more pain in the sides of my feet and ankles then the PF.. Finally, I went to a sports medicine place and got hooked up with a physical therapist that happened to work with the local college basketball team.. Guess what.. PF can become a pretty “common” problem if you don’t prevent it.. At least that what he told me, and he was a paid trainer for the team.. I was fit for flexible arch supports, made by a company called Biomechanical. They are cast to fit your foot – much better than just the supports from over the counter. I also had some 800 mg Ibuprofen to help with the inflammation. Within a month, including physical therapy to get me walking straight again, I was back to walking, running, and skydiving (yes, lots of comments about jumping causing the problem) and never had to get more shots in the bottom of my feet.. Please feel free to drop me a note and I may be able to get my physical therapy guys to find a reference you your area.. Edited to add: I still wear the arch supports today. If I don't wear them for a couple days in a row, the pain does start to come back. Then back into the arch supports and I can feel the bottoms of my feet stretch Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  24. Bill, would the 500 Watt motor be enough to pull the type of hill described?? And, if so, would the 25-mile battery still be a reasonable estimation? Just wondering, because for "around town" we are kinda thinking about the gas scooters... Thanks, Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
