  1. I see no attempt tp cover up the fact that he is whining. If he doesn't like being crowded, take up golf. ralph
  2. That is the intintion and spirit of not only Randy's post, but my reply as well. It went from how we can be safer, to how incompetent Randy is. And nothing could be further from the truth. I felt the need to weigh in against a world class expert with a couple of years and a few hundred jumps experience that was attempting to direct the thread away from Randy's original post about how to NOT find yourself in his situation. peace ralph
  3. Randy made the desion to post the details of this incident to share what happened to him and what he learned from it. If you posess nothing more than the "limited patience" to communicate in such a way that you come off as arrogant and high-handed, maybe you should check out a few different courses in college. Randy did not trot out his background and credentials until he felt it necessary to defend his post, and shed some light on his aviation background. And to prove that he may know a thing or two about what he is talking about. Randy is one of the most heads-up, safety minded people I have met in this sport in a long time. NOTHING he did was negligent. Period. But, I guess the ability to walk on water and rise from the dead gives you a much more enlightened view of the world in general that us mindless apes, wandering around down here living in caves all scared of the sun and shit. 4. oops sorry Eric. didn't mean to use the wrong name. All the rest is accurate tho ralph
  5. Wow!!! Daniel, I must say I am very impressed by this post. I am glad that you actually get what it means to have attended, completed and passed the AFF course. Probably the hardest you will ever work, and the most relieved you will ever be to have survived, in this sport. Excellent post, and I look forward to seeing you on the other side of a student. Congrats young man!!!! Ralph Nichols
  6. I am going to be there,,,,,,,so lets call it cold mean and quite drunk sir! ralph
  7. yes, but who got away with cutting one of the dreds off the cute chick from Gold Coast?
  8. The correct response is continue to pull the handles in the correct order. My response would be to pull the primary drogue release, upon realizing that the drogue bridle has broken(and it is quite appearant that this is the situation), make one attempt to reach back and throw the bag into the relative wind, if this is not possible, immediately cut away and deploy the reserve, I have personally witnessed the shock of the deploying reserve shake the bag loose from the main pack tray, there by having 2 out, but having pulled the cutaway pillow, you lessen the chance of two out. On the Racer system, there is a cable connected to the drogue release that will completely dis-engage the 3 ring attachment ppint. I am aware that there are going to be strong opinions on either side of this argument,, but as a tandem I/E, I feel I might have just a bit more first hand experience with this situation. So, gentlemen,,,,,, flame away, but make sure you have facts and to back up any and all responses, please. Respectfully Ralph
  9. you sir are absolutely right! How dare I make some flippant remark about "piis poor" airial skills when the best thing about these instructors id that they could actually make a 2 way and face the sun after they lost a level one. You want to call for me to recind my opinion, show me these professional skydiving instructors actually acting the part. Search any of my posts and you will see I put the students safety first. PERIOD. Do a little researsh before you make such an assinine comment
  10. I appreciate all the great info and input on how everyone teachs their students to land,,, but,,, what does ANY of this have to do with the original post? I would really like to see this discussion figure out how to not let this piss poor peformance by our AFF "professionals" not get repeated. I am glad that all turned out for this girl, and it great she went on to become a licensed skydiver, but this could have all turned out much worse. Lets explore that instead of how the radios work at your dz. Ralph
  11. I think it's horseshit that you feel the need to "protect" the guilty here. Many of us know what happened here, and I saw the original posting of the video. This was nothing less than piss poor flying by two supposedly professional skydiving instructors. By not showing the comedy of errors that is this jumps does nothing more than condone horrible flying by the instructors. Ralph Nichols AFF I 08
  12. you could have valve seats clogged with carbon. try this at initial start up, as soon as the engine smooths out a bit take a small squirt bottle with just plain old clean water, and squirt water into the throat of the carb with the engine about 1/4 throttle. If there is a massive amout of carbon in the cylinders the water will cause the carbon to crystalize and just go out the exhaust. I would also chech the muffler for blockage. ralph
  13. Gotta disagree.(sort of) I DO NOT teach tandem I canidates to "grope" or get touchy feely with the students. I DO however, teach them to steer the opening and control the students upper body with slight pressure on the students upper arms, on top of the shoulder, during opening snivel. This helps more so now with the tapered or eliptical mains more and more dz's are buying and flying. It does not distract from the students learning experience, and most of the times, they have no clue the I is controlling the deployment with their body weight. Plus it keeps your hands above and behind the student, making it much harder for there to be any grabbing of handles by the student(which can and does happen) as they feel the opening shock and reach up to grab on as they feel the drogue release and canopy deployment. groping... no using every tool available to ensure the safest, best performance for the student. Absolutely. ralph
  14. Well, theres always Mons Venus on Dale Mabry right off 275, and right across the street is Club 2001, you could very easily spend a day or two in these world famous establishments. but thats just me ralph
  15. "I think I would still take someone out even if they said no as long as they were not physically resisting me." When a student says no! it means NO!. Drag them out and they get hurt, and let me know what the jury says. As a course director, one of the things I try to make crystal clear is this fact. " I don't think I want to go"'or anything to that effect you are still in the clear, but if your student says "NO" then you get to enjoy a particularly expensive plane ride down with them. ralph
  16. would that be a mess, a pod or a slew????
  17. wait,,, you don't drink...... ralph
  18. there is not now, nor will there ever be enough mood altering substances in existence to make me sing such shit. My body is programmed to shut down to basic motor skills 2 drinks before this scenario even seems possibel. Granted(and it kills me to admit this)the Gators played an awesome game, but my favorite 2 teams remain the Seminoles,,, and who ever is beating the Gators. See all you bloody humps this weekend. Ralph
  19. dude,, is al asad still a shit hole???? ralph
