Facepalm Math fail. I propose we implement a "children's table" version of the SC Thread. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"

I'd suggest transitioning directly from cigs to not smoking and skip the pipe bit. Only known one pipe smoker personally (my friends father); he spent his last couple years breathing through a hole in his throat and talking using one of those voice vibrators like "Uncle Ned's" mate on South Park. Also lost Mother to lung cancer - neither had much good to say about smoking near the end. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"

Wife has seen a mouse in the kitchen. Got some mouse traps and on different nights have tried cheese (Red Leicester or Emmental); not to be fancy, it’s just what we had in the fridge. No joy. Tried some ham (Applewood smoked) – OK now I’m being fancy, but still no mouse caught. Did Google search and see that mice like peanut butter – I didn’t know that. Tried, but still no joy. Still getting our little visitor. I’ve used both old-school “Little Nipper” wood traps and also some new-school contraptions. Any ideas on what these damn things like to eat? I once hit a very small bird while driving at 125mph. It sounded like my car was hit with a baseball bat and it "exploded" the bird. It wasn't much larger than a humming bird, but I still couldn't imagine getting hit in the face with it at same speed. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"

Finally, a real answer to deal with school shooting
RMK replied to rushmc's topic in Speakers Corner
The laughable part is living in a G8 nation yet the likelihood of armed gunmen rushing into a children's school class being a real concern. This is generally reserved for people living in war-torn third world locales. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes" -
Yes, they read too many superhero comic books. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"

Good post. The other Cedar Rapids thread is really too ridiculous to even bother posting on. I think the writer of the Cedar Rapids Op Ed article read too many superhero comics as a child. He should relax; maybe move out of his Mum's basement and adjust to the real world. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"

No, your PB&J technique is flawed. PB on sides with J in the centre will render something like biting into a packet of ketchup; the J will squish out in all directions on the first bite. Re the following posts mentioning almond butter; damn that sounds good, I've got to find some. My usual "energy snack" is a Euro adaptation (though surely regarded as an abomination by purists) - French brioche roll with chocolate chips with added PB and sliced banana. Another good one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdCHjCy1fKs Regarding UK commercials, television is quite odd here; much of our programming is rubbish (we apologise for giving you Downton Abbey & Simon Cowell) ...but do make some good adverts. The rest of the western world knows that intelligent Americans would like to see some change regarding guns in the US. However, we also, know it will take some time given what you’re working against. One example: we invented the Grand Jury, but saw it didn’t work and disbanded the concept in 1933: http://mic.com/articles/105964/england-has-avoided-eric-garners-and-michael-browns-by-doing-what-the-u-s-won-t?utm_source=huffpost&utm_medium=social We also ended slavery in 1833; US didn’t come around to the idea until 1865 (which even then required an “ass-kickin” from the north). On the other hand guns are so are so cool; http://awkwardfamilyphotos.com/tag/guns/ "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"

Toddler accidentally shoots and kills his mother in Idaho Wal-Mart
RMK replied to mpohl's topic in Speakers Corner
"...Are you as concerned as much about swimming pool deaths with children?" Because it’s a gun discussion, not a swimming pool discussion. But since you mentioned, I believe nearly all US cities/towns have regulations of some manner that attempt to protect children if you have a pool. Most require (by law) fencing of some method that can restrict access. Yes, children still drown, but at least it is acknowledged as a risk and actions have been taken. As for guns, there are no methods to protect children in the US. As a populace, you’re concerned that a neighbourhood child could drown in your pool – and you get sued. However, you are seemingly OK with halfwits leaving guns around. “Merica” "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes" -

These are two commercials I love; also both been around awhile - but in case they haven't been seen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGwiQEAPlmY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UO17ac6mtj0 "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"

So you pull out your gun because someone says "you looking at me"? That should be a plot line from a Robert Deniro movie not real life where you're at a McDonalds drive-through. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes" -
If you were purposefully seeking a place with a large number/proportion of crazy people, a church would be a good bet. I'd rank it #2 after mental wards. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"

He didn't say he hates America. Just has a desire to not get shot while there. The possibility being shot shouldn't come into ones mind, while just out doing errands, shopping or having a coffee. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes" -

A loaded weapon laying around anywhere is not a smart move, whether it be Walmart, your truck or your kitchen table. For all the anecdotal reasons above for "carrying"; your first objective should be to remove yourself from the situation. If you live somewhere that feel you must carry; maybe you should think about moving. A note on CCW: No gun can protect you from a 75 IQ. Similarly I had a single-item limit of £5k per item. I got them to treat the rig/main/reserve as separate items. They agreed and I even got them to put it in writing. Did the same with wife's silverware set which cost more than most peoples cars; the insurers also treat the items as individual for cover purposes. NewsWeek has strict no "Agents of Satan" policy. Same reason you don't see articles penned by Dick Cheney in their magazine. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"

What do we want? Dead Cops! When do we want it? NOW!!!!
RMK replied to CameraNewbie's topic in Speakers Corner
Even other NYC cops fear NYC cops: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/12/23/off-duty-black-cops-nypd_n_6373496.html The murder of the two NYC cops is heinous. However, it doesn't change the track record and policing style of the NYPD as a whole. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes" -
When something good is happening, no one is going to say “quick, call the police”. Yes, they see and deal with the worst that society has to offer – but that is their job and what they signed up to do. Regarding pay and job security, for a role which generally requires no formal education, they are surprising well paid. Google what a New York or Chicago policeman is paid in salary and pension. In your standard issue small hick town , they can be among the top earners. Everyone respects and applauds policemen who go about their role professionally, but in many parts of the US, there are departments (or whole cities) where the police are corrupt or racist. That is a problem to be addressed and dealt with; not justified. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"

I also can't fathom why someone would want to attack firemen or ambulance personnel. Unfortunately we have the same problem in the UK albeit with youths throwing stones/bottles (not shooting as in the US examples). Oddly, this is only really seen in advanced G7 nations, your emerging market countries seem to have fewer people who would attack their limited public services.
