  1. Any chance a demo might be available either at the Puerto Rico Boogie or at Flock & Dock? Skwrl Productions - Wingsuit Photography Northeast Bird School - Chief Logistics Guy and Video Dork
  2. I always thought everyone just asked GiselleMartins, since she's a paraglider pilot and fashion designer.
  3. There's no death tax. There's a tax on unearned inheritances, with a very large exemption. As a guy who got an LL.M. in tax (but now does licensing law), I can promise you that your statement is too broad. Properly worded, it should read "there's a tax on unearned inheritances, when the deceased had poor tax planning during his or her lifetime (or died before the plan was fully executed)." 4. People have thought about this before and not done it, for very good reason. My camera (when I'm jumping with my fancy toys) set up costs about $2,800, not including the cost of the helmet. And while I'd hate to lose it, I will jettison it in a metric heartbeat if it is a choice between losing it and risking an entanglement. Adding a spring loaded pilot chute (or even a non-spring loaded one) increases the possibility that it will be entangled with the pilot chute, main, deployment bag, freebag and/or reserve. Kudos to you for coming up with a creative idea, but it's not one I'd recommend anyone adopting. It would likely make a very bad day worse. My other comments would be - get a helmet with a cutaway - learn how that cutaway system works - think about how different types of malfunctions will change your emergency procedures What do I mean by that last one? Well, if you've been trained to "look red, pull red, look silver, pull silver" for your EPs and you have an entanglement with your helmet, doing your normal EP will possibly snap your neck, like what almost happened with this jerk: https://vimeo.com/37998866 More generally, wait until you've got more jumps and have had a chance to talk to more people about it... 5. You mean as large as than the ones in the attached picture, as just one example of one of the "tiny little wood" grippers that are currently on the market now? (And there are larger ones currently out there, such as the Tonysuits "Pimple", but I don't have a picture available. By the way, a question to Tony, what the Hell were you smoking when you came up with that name, and can I have some?) If that's what you mean, then yes, you're right. That's never been done before. Revo-fucking-lutionary. Man, irony can be pretty ironic... Particularly since one of the jumpers "in the know" with respect to these suits posted above that the grippers aren't expected to be materially larger than those currently on the market... But let's get back to the topic at hand, here or on the other thread. I, for one, welcome new wingsuit manufacturers, and I'm looking forward to checking out one of these suits, if only because the name is just perfect. 6. Since my advice to everyone is always "try before you buy", when and where will demo suits be available to check out, and who should interested people contact to try one out (e.g., will there be sales reps)? 7. Huh? The one I'm looking at on their website has carbon fiber grippers (as opposed to, for example, the wooden grippers that have been used in Tonysuits'). Are they offering a suit that uses carbon fiber rods to expand the span of the wing as well, or did you just mis-read their page? No you didn't miss read it, maybe you can't understand it but the carbon fiber rods or "Grippers" as you wish to call it does expand the wing area and wingspan of the suit. From what I heard they are trying different protos, with longer carbon rods extended wings to rigid suits. Good luck for the team. Lauren Grippers (as they call them) aren't anything new to wingsuits. (I have them in my old Tonysuit S-bird and X-bird.) The difference here is that they're carbon fiber rods and not thin wooden dowels. I think even they are saying that they don't do anything different except shave a few grams off of total weight. Personally, I'm torn on the issue. I've busted gripper dowels, and easily replaced them. If I shattered a carbon fiber gripper tube, I'd probably replace it with a wooden one. 10. I agree with this line of thinking. If you have an RSL, make absolutely certain: - your helmet has a cutaway, - you realize that the camera changes your emergency procedures for some malfunctions, and - you learn (and train on) those altered EPs for those types of malfunctions. I know I've posted it before, but this video is pretty illustrative of how things can go wrong. https://vimeo.com/37998866 Skwrl Productions - Wingsuit Photography Northeast Bird School - Chief Logistics Guy and Video Dork

You might want to post this to the email distribution lists that the local DZs (Pepperell, Jumptown, SNE and CPI) have... I'll try to dig up some email addresses... Skwrl Productions - Wingsuit Photography Northeast Bird School - Chief Logistics Guy and Video Dork
  14. I'm not an Obama fan, but I don't see, based on the polling data that I've seen on everything from RCP to 538.com, how he could get to that number. So let's make it interesting and test our confidence - I bet Romney gets fewer than 300 electoral votes. Maybe the polls have been consistently wrong. I guess we'll see. Loser donates (and gets written confirmation of the donation) $300 to the charity of the winner's selection, and posts the donation in this thread. Game on? I would bet you..... but I agree with you. How about we just donate to charity anyway
  15. you're not much of a risk taker are you? Why should I be in this context? Original poster made his bet; I bet he's wrong. (Shrug.) I mean, I could offer 3 to 1 odds or something, but given the OP's post, why should I? Skwrl Productions - Wingsuit Photography Northeast Bird School - Chief Logistics Guy and Video Dork
  16. Ah, my bad. Should have read the whole thread before posting that. OK, I'll hold it open for the first person to accept it by expressly saying so in this thread before 1:00 pm Eastern Time today. 18. Well, this will be an entertaining thread... They are both great. You will get a complete, professional course for either. There are also folks closer to home if you decide to put it off until next season. Either way, be safe, have fun. 21. No, I just suck at math. Did a back of the envelope calculation, and I forgot to carry the 1 or something. It's about the same as yours. Skwrl Productions - Wingsuit Photography Northeast Bird School - Chief Logistics Guy and Video Dork
  22. Right, but that's his point; it's an ambiguity. I personally don't care about these things, but I noted that I would qualify for my "USPA 48 hour freefall wings" (an award USPA gives out) if wingsuit flight is included in "free fall time". I wouldn't qualify for any "wings" (and probably never will) if it isn't included. (Shrug.) If I cared about these sort of things, I'd be all butt hurt right about now, kvetching that I didn't get my wings. I try to be as anti-semantic as I can, but it's an ambiguity that ought to be answered. Personally, I don't see how you exclude wingsuit freefall time from "freefall", because the line between "big jumpsuit" and "small wings" is kind of blurry. Do camera wings count as a wingsuit (they gots wings!) or a jumpsuit? Skwrl Productions - Wingsuit Photography Northeast Bird School - Chief Logistics Guy and Video Dork
  23. He's referring to the comment made by the Red Bull Stratos announcer that Felix was going to have 5 minutes, 30 seconds of freefall time, which "would have set the freefall record", when we all know Medusa holds the record with 9 minutes and 6 seconds of free fall time from 37,000 feet.
