  1. it was mentioned in a few forum posts that I was reading when I was still shopping around. Here's one: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3477320;search_string=spanwise%20reinforcement%20tempo;#3477320
  2. So apparently at some point back in 2001 Tempos added spanwise reinforcement to the bottom skin. Mine was made in 2001. Any way I can tell based on the S/N or specific DOM whether it was made pre-reinforcement or post-reinforcement? Thanks
  3. Brian from CSC has already pm'd me. Thanks though.
  4. Could someone point me in the right direction for wingsuit coaching within a few hours of Madison WI. I'm thinking either ChicagolandSkydivingCenter or SkydiveChicago, but couldn't find anything specific. Thanks
  5. Yea dude, Pribram DZ's great (just made a few jumps there this past weekend) Their prices are reasonable considering you're in europe, you can stay in a bunkhouse for cheap and their plane (turbolet) is great. If you're in prague, they also have vans that transport tandem students back and forth all day and they have no problem taking you as well. Nobody really speaks English though. But you'll manage.

  7. Everyone packs their own at my dz (nonprofit club), so I'm completely unfamilliar with how this "pack for money" phenominon works elsewhere. No idea what kind of qualifications are expected or even if there is such a thing as a "professional packer" (other than riggers). As for number one, that's what I'm trying to do now. Find out out which, if any DZ's would be a better bet for this kind of escapade. As for number two, I'm nowhere near professional and certainly wouldn't touch someone else's velo or katana. i would probably feed off of intermediate level skydivers who don't feel like packing (if there's a market and I won't be invading someone else's turf). I envisioned things working like #3; if that is in any way a reasonable expectation. A few hundred Euros is a lot more than I would expect. I'm not planning on traveling on this money at all. I was more thinking a five packjobs to one jump ratio would give me an opportunity to jump a few times over there. And yea, I'm not too suprised that for the most part it would be hard to convince DZ's to let a stranger stop by and help out. Just checking though.
  8. I know it's a big place, lived there (Germany) for about five years. I was rushed when i wrote the question, but to clarify, i am really looking for specific DZ's that would be OK with this idea. For the most part, distance and location don't really matter being that I will be purchasing a Eurail Pass (unlimited train rides in most EU countries) and spending a good bit of time there. Agreed on less chat, more splat part... once the weekend arrives.
  9. Hello So I ought to be train traveling around Europe throughout the summer, and my budget basically only allows for sustinence + universal train ticket (not sustinence + universal train ticket + skydives, unfortunately). So my question to you is, how receptive are DZ's over there to random travelers stopping by and packing mains for people so they can afford to make some jumps? I've got about 70 jumps now, and should have a bit over 100 by the time I make my way over the pond. So let me know if this is too brash of me, I'm too inexperienced to be trusted, or if this is a great idea that will work beautifully
  10. So would J1 be the biggest or the smallest?
  11. Hello all, What makes a Javelin J1 different from a J2 and so on (I think it goes till J5). Thanks
  12. It certainly is unnecessary when you are way too low and very aware of it without the need for an altimeter to confirm it. All looking at my altimeter served to do was tell me that I was low specifically at 2500. whether it was 2300, 2500 or whatever was immaterial at that time. I tracked away for way too long, nobody was around, I knew I was low; I should have just dumped. As for why I kept flipping: basically the switch from a pro-tec to an oxygn fullface added crap to my chin area that required me to bend over a lot farther so I could see the chestmount over it. I guess the extra bend made me flip because the second I switched to a fullface I couldn't track and then the second I realized the above issue I was fine.
  13. So was the unnecessary altitude check after breakoff, shouldn't have wasted the second or so to verify that I was indeed an idiot (that can wait till after freefall). I got in the habit of looking at my chestmount after that during the track. That ended after I got a full face and had to really bend over to to see it, kept flipping over during the track and couldn't figure out why. Now I just count
  14. Somewhere around Jump 20 (still student) I'm tracking away "Hmmm... this has been a while, maybe I should check altitude" I check altitude "$#!&, I should pull" "Oh yea, I need to wave off" I Wave off I Pull I look up "Why is Mr. 13000 jumps a couple of hundred feet above me?" (in saddle at 2000)
  15. QuoteIf this is your first set of gear, I wouldn't concentrate so much on looking for the "perfect wingsuit rig," rather I would concentrate on Any rig (with the exception of a pull out) is more than adequate for the casual beginner in wingsuiting. All of the "extras" are simply that..."extras".
  16. Corners of my packing tray open? My mental image of what that means is cutting the closing flaps thinner so they don't actually cover the whole dbag or something... that can't be right. Or did you mean the side flaps (just close with the top and bottom flap or something like that)? Cool video, though it seems you have to hang around someone's crotch to have a conversation.
  17. So I'm getting my first gear (used) soon, and I'm hoping it'll last me at least until I get to try wingsuiting and a bit beyond that. This gets me thinking, what exactly makes a rig a good rig for wingsuiting? I know a longer bridle is necessary, but what else? On that note, and I'm sure this is a stupid question, I've heard it's quieter up there with a wingsuit; can you guys talk to each other in freefall?
  18. Hello, So if I buy a rig that doesn't have an AAD, do I need to wait until the next repack to install one, or can somebody (rigger obviously) just stick it in there somehow without having to pay for a complete repack before it's necessary?
  19. Jeb can do whatever he wants to, hope he succeeds. That being said, I think the whole Matrix, slo-mo, doves flying thing was waaaayy over the top.
  20. At that rate, I think it'd just be best to buy used. Thanks though
  21. Random question: Does anybody provide a Cypress rental service? I would like to spread out my new (used) gear expenses over time somewhat, but still want to jump an AAD. If it doesn't exist, it should. 100 or so for the life of one reserve repack would bring in almost 4000 over it's lifetime (I think). It's also easily mailed anywhere. Or should I just buy a used one. Thanks
  22. Yea, getting so comfortable with it that I cut corners scares me... I think you may be referring to fear, nut butterflies (on some level). First time I realized I wasn't scared any more was jump 14... I couldn't wait for them to open the door so I could finally let one loose.
