  1. Hey! Don't put any ideas in her head. I think it is cool that she is interested in learning about skydiving (though she still won't make a tandem) I don't have any problems with my mom lurking here... I just wish she had told me when she started so I could clean up my language and post content. If she sees some posts, she's likely to wash my mouth out with soap. Love you mom! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The mind is like a parachute--it works better when it is open. JUMP. MaryRose
  2. always wear one. The ONE time that I took it off to take off my jacket (I was passenger), we got in a car accident. My head cracked up the windshield and my knee was sliced up by the dash. I think if we had been going any faster, I would have gone through the windshield. I was so mad, because seriously, i always wear my seatbelt! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The mind is like a parachute--it works better when it is open. JUMP. MaryRose
  3. It's zero tolerance here too. It doesn't matter if you were not legally drunk, you were not legal to drink, so that BAC doesn't matter anymore if it was over 0.0. You said something about second chances. I say he already got a second chance. He is lucky he didn't really f*ck up and hurt somebody else. All he has to do is go through the motions of the system and "learn his lesson." I have known people who got the same charge and laugh it off because they got off easy....and then they do it again. I hope he DID learn his lesson, for the sake of everyone else on the road. You say he only blew a .06, but can you say he hasn't driven under the influence of alcohol before? ...and probably not at a legal BAC?? I think that since he is over 17, he will still be charged as an adult. I am not sure what the difference in punishment is though. I think it is more fines, less rehab stuff. The lawyer he gets makes a huge difference in these cases. Money talks. I have had friends go through the same thing and get off pretty easy due to a good lawyer. good luck. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The mind is like a parachute--it works better when it is open. JUMP. MaryRose

  12. it's wierd all the variations of it. I didn't get the stomach flu, but I definately had the flu. 103 temp and stuck in bed for days. It was the worst flu I have ever had. My body never hurt so bad. So glad to be healthy and hope I don't ever get that again! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The mind is like a parachute--it works better when it is open. JUMP. MaryRose
  13. I would say that it should be mandatory for first time jumpers. I did my first at bd this year and I wore a helmet. I will wear one next year too. Although I didn't have any problems getting into the landing area safe, from what I saw standing in the landing area, a lot of people should be wearing helmets... I think that the first jump off the bridge can be very overwhelming, and most likely first jumpers aren't used to landing in a constricted area like that. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The mind is like a parachute--it works better when it is open. 17. I got lucky. I decided to put that I was a skydive instructor on my resume and it actually swayed them to give me the job. Luckily, they didn't look at it as a self-destructive attitude, they looked at it as I was quick responding in emergency situations, attentive to detail, and an empowered woman. They are still freaked about the whole thing. It was pretty funny, at the end of my first interview, my now supervisor says...." on a side note, I have always wanted to go skydiving!! my husband thinks it's crazy...etc. " She asked me a ton of questions and was totally intrigued. I was in.

  20. I hear ya on that. When I go out w/ non- skydiving friends, they get fed up when I go home early...either that or I go hang out in my dz town just so I can get there earlier. Now I decided it would be easier just to move there w/skydivers. I think it will be best for everyone. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The mind is like a parachute--it works better when it is open. JUMP. MaryRose
