  1. Square parachutes in pilot rigs are usually reserved for pilots who are jumpers also. The exception is the Aviator by Rigging Innovations which is designed to be landed hands off. Paraphernalia usually requires a tandem or some other kind of ram air experience but then you can put in pretty much whatever square you want. If the pilots are "mature" meaning middle age fat, Paraphernalia offers the Preserve V, rated at I think 270 lbs and 150 knts. This can land the big guys softly. Speed would be higher if testing was finished. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  2. Keep checking the pia web site for changes. The room will be changing to get closer to the WiFi. AND THIS IS NOT ENOUGH DZ.COMERS!!!!! Also, get Adam's Mark reservations if you want them by Dec. 11th. After that the room rate will skyrocket with the superbowl two weeks later. And if they tell you there aren't any PIA rate rooms left, hang up and call again. If you still can get one before Dec. 11 call symposium headquarters (aka Sunpath) and talk to Pat Thomas. The hotel has been screwing with us. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  3. Yep, and by phone two weeks ago, they have NOT set the price. If they kept it flat and included the battery it would be $235. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  4. Nope. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  5. Two weeks ago when I asked SSK the service price for a cypres 2 had NOT yet been determined. IF it includes the batteries I would expect it to be more than the current $160 plus shipping. So at best subtract 3x$75. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  6. riggermick on here. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  7. Since I don't make my living at rigging, can choose my customers, this is my answer. An example of legal but not wanting to put my name on it is a military seat in stock, airworthy condition. I just don't put my name on non diapered rounds. And I cheerfully send them to somebody that will. Rarely, if ever, would I chose a clearly illegal choice on a customers rig. I'd educate them and let them chose whether to "change" or go somewhere else. This is a debate that we have often at PIA Rigger Committee meetings and PIA Symposium Rigger Forum. "Will you pack anything that's legal and airworthy or impose your opinions/restrictions on your customers?" Classic example is "I won't pack ____ rig. I don't care if it's brand new its a death rig!" There are riggers ADAMANT on both sides of the issue. "I don't have to pack anything I don't want to." and "I'll pack anything that's legal and airworthy as the day it was built. It's not my job to baby sit my customers." Rarely do we get a U.S. rigger saying I'll do what's right not what's legal. Come join in the fun in January. 8. Beezy, You KNOW some newbie's going to ask why I only use one turn. Of course it's one turn of super tack. OK, THE ABOVE POST IS A JOKE BETWEEN EXPERIENCED RIGGERS AND NOT TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY BY ANYBODY. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  9. Yeah, he had a real tight hold to keep you up, didn't he. Ice skatings one of my standard first dates. I'm good enought to stand up and kinda go backwards but not so good as to show a date up. To Lou .... Just hang on tight!! I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE

  11. Did I see that another one was opening at Brown airfield? I've got two friends that went out to work for Skydive Southern California and thought I heard they were trying to work for a new one. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  12. Okay, the schedule complaint office is NOT open. Everything conflicts with something. I figured hard core riggers and hard core instructors were MOST mutually exclusive. Hmmm, but maybe I'll exchange Brian and Jim that day. And you get to do it next time slot! I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  13. Bill was just too late to give me anything. We had to twist his arm just to get the application filled out. Hey Bill, GIVE ME A TITLE! I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  14. Hmmm, I guess I was thinking of a tether above for increasing "fall rate" during track. Or is there a net on top? I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  15. Damn! I knew I should have patented it! I do high angle rescue rope work. My 9000lb rescue rope isn't going to break. We all trust our lives to webing, string, and cloth every jump. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  16. Also, for those of you who might care, there is a Glock Sport Shooting Federation event in Jacksonville the same weekend. I shot it two years ago and had a good time. But this time it's the same weekend and I won't have time. http://www.gssfonline.com/ I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  17. A comment made by somebody else raised a stupid question in my mind. Has anybody tried tethered tunnel flying for tracking pratice? Efficiency measured by load cell or some such. I envision a center of mass (variable) supension point on a harness suspended by a dynomometer or load cell to a cross bar in the tunnel. Short enough to keep from hitting the side. Okay, I've only been in a tunnel once and I haven't paid much attention to them. There must be something wrong with this idea. Strangulation comes to mind. But a base guy wished for a slanted tunnel to practice tracking for cliff dives. Flame on, waiting to feel stupid. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  18. The Speaker Schedule is now online at http://www.pia.com/symposium2005/seminars.htm There are intentional blanks for last minute additions and changes. I already have at least four changes/additions to make so it is best to check at least weekly. The schedule, unfortunately, will change right up to and during the symposium. Please check for the latest version prior to the symposium on the web site and onsite bulleting boards during the symposium. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE

  24. I don't know if this has been updated. We'll have to asked Jan. Dave DeWolf has posed some of the same questions you have to the FAA. The contact he asked got five different answers from 5 different people (in the FAA). So, some of the questions have went to legal for an interpretation. Don't hold your breath for these items the you (and maybe me) feel are no brainers. If your in Jacksonville for the rigging committee meeting before the symposium show up. We usually have a discussion about these items. I don't know when the rigging committee meeting is yet. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  25. All the questions are available on line from the FAA. Too lazy to do the search for you. Now if you want answers and references you could try this. http://www.makeithappen.com/products/rigexam.html Haven't seen it but know the vendor. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
