...how bout you? I'm on a trip heading to Columbia SC to visit family, and I've been salivating over a bottle of Glen Rothes 1991 for about two weeks that I'm bringing to share with my Dad.

how long to get your A license
Heatmiser replied to VEGAS_MIKE's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
1088 jumps and no A? You rode the short bus, didn't you Just kidding. My dad went from no license, to A, to D. Someone told him he had to get the A first. Go figure. + 1 My pops was a Russian linguist for the Army, so I grew up hearing alot of Russian, so any English spoken with a Russian accent is very pleasing.

Actually, this last post was more informative of his situation than what I've read of past posts. I don't think he's nuts, he's pissed. And creative in sharing it. Dr. Cancer = Dr. Lee Schlictemeier What I haven't caught yet is why the USPA booted him. Sounds like he thinks it's because he was circumventing the USPA and going to the FAA about his demos. Or not. Lodi Facing Million Dollar Lawsuit
Heatmiser replied to michaelt's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Ok, I am not a DZO, but I am a business owner. Basic business, you take your labor costs, (pilot, refueler, manifest, etc....) Fixed overhead costs...(rent on the hangar, payment and upkeep on the plane, a dozen other things I probably can't imagine), and disposable material, such as fuel, and spread that out through your product. You come up with a per slot cost...what it cost's the DZO to operate. Then comes the subjective part, you add profit. I hear people bitching all the time about someone making money. Profit is not a dirty word. If the DZO is swapping dollars, not making any profit, than why have the business? My point is the DZO decides how much profit he wants, and can, make. He offers you a service, and you decide if it is acceptable. Doesn't mean DZO's are taking advantage of anyone. They are charging what the market will allow. Quite frankly, a DZO can make the argument that if they did not do low passes, than EVERY one on the load would have to pay the price for the slot to the top. In those terms, they are actually losing out on the 7, or 10 dollars for that slot on the plane they would have gotten without the low pass. Maybe I'm naive, but cheaper lift tickets to a lower altitude on a flight going to full altitude is actually a DZO getting less money than he would have got. Again, what do I know. If you have to thin your latex paint to make it go thru the sprayer, your using the wrong type of sprayer. All latexes are formulated to be pumped thru an airless sprayer, no thinning necessary. Also, I'm curious what cleanup you're talking about. Generally, pumping a gallon of water through the rig cleans it right up. Airless paint sprayers are useful tools, I own around 30. Ok. You have gotten some good advice here. My two cents, (I've been a painting contractor for 14 years): homeowner grade paint sprayers are just that. Homeowner grade. They wear out alot faster due to cheap parts. For a one time project you would do better to get everything ready to spray, then rent one from your local paint store. You ca usually rent one for about 50 dollars a day. As for saving time, it will be 6 in one hand, half a dozen in the other. What you save in paint time you will spend in prep time( covering everything you don't want to paint. Floors, windows, trim, cabinets, tubs etc. Most pros would still spray since there would be no furniture, but you have to remember that the people we pay to mask everything off do it all day, every day, and are very fast at it. On the other hand, if you are making a drastic change in color, you may save alot in material, since you can often repaint in a single coat with spraying. If you need any further advice, just pm me, it's free! Good luck.
