If you do a search on this forum - you'll see that this is an often asked question. Generally as a new jumper your maximum wingloading should not be higher than 1.0. Your wingloading is calculated as dividing your exit weight in lbs (your weight plus your gear) divided by the size of canopy chosen so if your weight is roughly LESS THAN 130 lbs and your instructors are happy with your canopy skills then a 150 is as small as you should go. However you should discuss this with your instructors first as various canopies have different performance characteristics and not all 150 canopies will fly the same ...

For fashion don't forget to visit Camden Market (indie/alt /grunge) or Covent Garden for touristy bits or the Westfield Centre (shopping Mall) if you like your designer label's - Jimmy Choo / Louis Vuitton / Prada etc ... Art - you have the Tate Modern / National Gallery and many others ... Theatre - there's a list as long as your arm - but don't pay full price for the tickets - there are plenty of booking booths in Leicester Square that will sell you a discounted ticket (unless there's a show that you MUST see). Wimbledon is a great place but probably cold if you're visiting in December! -

thanks, guess I should have researched better... Well to be fair it is a little known container outside of Europe at the moment - but all of that will change soon

There are some good ones. Mostly the problem right now is with the strong Euro vs the Pound, meaning Paratec (and Basik, and Firebird, and PdF) stuff has gone up a lot in price for UK buyers. The biggest difference tends to be the almost 18% import tax and approx $250 shipping fees (for a complete rig) - which will actually rise to almost 20% once VAT returns to normal ... A container that would retail for $2000 in the US could end up costing $2600 here in the UK once the VAT goes back up! - this will mean that containers from Basik and other European manufacturers will become very similar in price. However some jumpers from Europe obviously elect to collect their gear in person - (saving quite a bit if they already have a trip booked) which then can make it cheaper to buy in the US. However when the $ was at less than 1.40 to the £ it was actually cheaper to buy in Europe!

When you leave the aircraft there is only you and your choice of gear to ensure that you have a safe flight and landing - your friends are not involved. If you choose the wrong gear then you and you alone will have to deal with whatever situation arises, therefore i would strongly suggest jumping the gear that you feel most comfortable with.

Excellent - but looking at that ad - it does seem suspicious. That's the third or fourth advert for a high value rig that i've now seen from this guy - all claiming to be his or his girlfriends ... See if you can get his phone number for me

Hi Gary sounds like he's put up another advert ... The one i replied to was for a Javelin and seemed ok - he even phoned me and we had a conversation, but there's something which doesn't quite sound right. Luckily i have only paypal'd a small deposit and have already put that on hold until i'm sure one way or the other ... Hopefully someone will say 'he's fine' - otherwise i'll get my money back from Paypal in 30 days time ...

Hi Dave thanks for your suggestion - that's a great idea, however it is difficult sometimes when you are on different continents. I have bought gear from people on and off for the last seven years without difficulty. I am checking the facts BEFORE sending most of the money as someone has specifically posted a negative comment about this person. The strange thing is that the same user seems to have been sellling items in the classifieds for months now - so it's either a case of an upset customer (which is easy to verify with a couple of references) or he's scammed several people and no-one's reported it until now. Either way it should be easy to clear up ...

Hi Guys I've just read a posting in the classifieds section claiming that this guy is running a scam (user name lucek1234) So my first question is does anyone know him? He says that he used to jump in Deland but has moved to Chicago although he still has a brother who jumps at Deland. If anyone knows and can give him a reference please contact me either here or by PM if you'd prefer. I'm about to buy some gear from him and would like to check before parting with any money. Cool - i didn't remember that Z-Hills was that close to Orlando I've visited the Hills and Sebastian before - so i guess i'll definately give Deland a visit this time - especially if Skymama's jumping Thanks for all the suggestions so far and if anyone's got any more or knows of a good party or two then let me know.
