Tandem or AFF for first jump
TheDonMan replied to jumpinfarmer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
AFF, no need to put the monkey on his back if he already knows that he wants to get his license. If his dad is a skydiver then he probably already know a little on what to expect. I did AFF first and i have no regrets.. The world is full of willing people, some willing to work, the rest willing to let them. -

alot of times it just depends on whether the DZ can find a rig that will fit him. His fall rate shouldn't be that bad but i would deffinantly wear weights.. The world is full of willing people, some willing to work, the rest willing to let them.

Hell I've got over 300 tandem jumps out of a Pac and it is actually very easy. At first it took some time to get used to because of the lower door vs. an otter and king Air but it very easy to launch out of a Pac. The most fun exit is having both you and your student sitting on the edge of the door(feet dangling outside) slide out and do a gainer.. it look really good on video. Come on up to Suffolk, VA and you can contribute 3 cases of beer. one for jumping at a new DZ, one for jumping out of a PAC and one for jumping your fist time with me The world is full of willing people, some willing to work, the rest willing to let them.

Pretty much anything she does, she will owe a case of beer The world is full of willing people, some willing to work, the rest willing to let them.

An otter can be fun. grab the inside bar then just swing out like you were going to go down a slide. Just don't forget to let go on time....... The world is full of willing people, some willing to work, the rest willing to let them.

It really depends on the people that you are jumping with... you may need to adjust the weight on different jumps depending on your company in the air. As for me, I do a lot of AFF and i have to dress for the people that i jump with. i.e. if i have someone that is 230 @ 6ft i will wear about 10-12 lbs. but if im doing an 8 way and I'm a diver i may not wear any weight at all because i know the base will be moving much slower. It comes down to experience and your comfort level. As for price, i bought a the ankel weights that people use for running, put them togeter and you have a cheap weight belt. it usually comes with ten pounds of weight. lead costs about a buck a pound. I have a total of 20 lbs. if needed. (sometimes i have to jump with bowling balls) hope this helps, Don The world is full of willing people, some willing to work, the rest willing to let them.

After tightengin up the lateral straps ask the male student. "so what do you think.... Am I Jewish or not?" When teaching the ground prep show the harness to the students and say" you all are really lucky because up until about two weeks ago we used to just duct tape you to us" The world is full of willing people, some willing to work, the rest willing to let them.

I am an AFF instructor and i have seen a lot of students have a bad skydives after an exit has gone bad. The student is tougher on themselves then the instructor is on them. Usually I try to get them to go back up the same day so they don't take it home with them. As for one instructor vs. two, at our DZ on level 2 you are with only one instructor. the only time you have two in on your level 1 jump. A little secret...... your starting to understand the dangers of the sport. On the plane ride up you have a lot of time to think about what can go wrong and then you start second guessing your self. This happened to me during my first year skydiving. On the ground I was a bad ass skydiver but in the plane I would ask myself "why am I really doing this" all the way up to the door. Once out the door it was all good.....

Why wouldn't you just go to altitude pull high once or twice, feel how it flies then find out how it opens at terminal. I'm not sure if you downsized or not but with high performance canopies the opening at terminal seems to be the most interesting part of the skydive. Line twists, break stow coming undone ect can really make for interesting situations. I say just pull high after reaching terminal, watch what your canopy does and learn how it fly from up high. . Review your emergency cutaway procedures...... The world is full of willing people, some willing to work, the rest willing to let them.

I have seen the thread about AFF exiting from a King Air and lord knows i have enough of them but what about the exit from a PAC. I have about 200 Cat A jumps from a Pac and we seem to have is down very well. was just wondering what everyone else is doing for an exit....... The door in a king air is not very wide but it is tall. A student stands in the door with one hand on the outside and the other on the inside. (sandwiches the side of the plane.) the student can stand up easily because of the rounded sides. left leg trails in the wind the other on the planes step or door. Hips forward and they are in the perfect position for free fall. the belly is already in the relative wind. they check inside the plane then look behind them.
