  1. hey all.. heres a thought: we all like to travel, and the fact that there are dz's all over the place is a good thing. So heres a thread to point out some 'landmarks' for visiting jumpers. Got the idea from kevins post about not being able to locate the dz. and hey guys, i know that this is no subsitute for reviewing ariel maps and talking to regulars at a new dz.. just something to add to that. so here is cross keys... If youre looking at the landing area to the west are woods, to the east is the hanger. to the north is more woods, to the south is the runway and even more woods. places to land off/ ways to find the dz: if you open and you notice the golf course, know thats to the west. the golf course is right past the woods to the west. To the north we have the 'field of houses' (formerly field of dots to some old timers), to the northeast we have a couple of big open fields. something to know though, those fields are currently construction sites/ building areas so prepare for a rocky ground and rough landing. To the east, past the hanger there isnt anywheres to land. at least not until youve cleared the houses and tree lined yards. But there are fields to the far(ther) east. the main road runs N/S and then the road that the dz is at the end of runs E/W.. so youve got to clear those trees and the road and youve got some fields. Far east, but still reasonable there is a huge parking lot that jumpers sometimes land at. To the south there is the runway (dont land there!) and a bit of grass before the trees start. Way beyond those trees there are fields. But ive never really checked out how far away they are so i cant help much when it comes to 'outs' that are south of the landing area. Hope this helps any first time jumpers/ visiting skydivers. you can find an ariel map at the crosskeys web site. http:// freefalladventures.com go to the 'experienced jumper' section and search around. kelly
  2. I heard from some folks at the dz tonight that there was a fatality today at a local dropzone, skydive Delmarva in delaware. Does anybody know anything? I dont doubt that this story is true.. apparently one of our guys took off when he heard cause apparently his girlfriend was friends with the victem.... my thoughts and prayers.... kelly
  3. NO! NO! NO! for your information frank, the women won that battle fair and square.:)we promised nakie pics, we delivered nakie pics. Next time make a few more rules, maybe be specific.. lol. It just goes to show who the more dominant sex is. We won a war of nakie pics without having to show our 2 friends. battle of the wits baby, and the women kicked yo' asses! lol. by the way, its called "sangiro, help the women of dz.com" or something very similar to that.
  4. mattb, hey. we have AFF and AFP at cross keys. Were transitioning to the AFP program. 3 tandems, ground school, a transition jump then jumps number 5-8. Its a good program. Im in the middle of it right now :)
  5. Congrats mandy! whooo heee! liking the swoop pond huh? :)
  6. Monk, i think its one of those "only you know best' situations. you made your decision and you walked away from it, perfectly fine (well almost). You dont see as many incident reports in parachutists cause of "skiing the first half of the landing...then running another 1/4 of it out then having no choice but to PLF the rest" as you do "low turn, traumatic injuries" or whatever they call hook turns. Id have taken the downwinder too. Rather have a broken extremedy then a broken face, cracked jaw, broken ribs, cracked sternum, fractured arm, torn muscles, compound fracture of both ankles and numerous other injuries that would seriously injure/kill me.. but thats just me. froggie
  7. okay. so its saturday afternoon and its been raining on and off all day. Youre at the dz, 'working' and bored out of your mind. Want something fun to do? Start off with a little soccer game. Move onto a 'keep the soccer ball up' game. After that gets tireing try creeper races with another person. When thats old try partner creeper races. Just make sure that your partner isnt named Liddy and doesnt get so excited that she races you to full speed and lets go while you soar right at a block of concrete. If your partner does let go after pushing you beyond the sound barrier dip an arm like you were going to do a turn and slide your arm across the pavement while turning away from the concrete. Stop about 2 inches away, Look at the cuts on your arm. Smile proudly. Be bored for a few seconds before somebody (stacy!) magically suggests adding an extention cord to the mix. Be the one to volunteer to be on the creeper again. Tie the extention cord around the creeper and you. Give the other end to a crazy ass person. Have him or her run around spinning you madly around the area in front of the hanger. Did i mention that this area should be concrete also? Oh yeah, listen as manifest tells everybody that theres an 'interesting show' going on in front of the hanger, and this is what happens when skydivers get bored. Wave wildly at the shocked tandems, and scream like hell. make sure that your partner aims you at the huge puddle that has gathered because of all the rain. Soaring sideways on the creeper do about 6 spins around and through the puddle. Finally , laughing so hard your crying, beg to stop. Untie the extention cord, apoligize to the dog you almost ran over, and slowely crawl off the creeper. Look down, betcha covered in puddle water huh? Walk back over to the office, go inside and continue to work. When the boss mentions your 'creeper extention cord ride' smile at him and say "well, i needed a shower anyway" while pointing at your soaking wet front. oh, this is big fun. everyone should do this once. and get video! Next weekend were repeating this again but this time ill have on knee and elbow pads, will actually be wearing shoes, and will have pants on. Also my 'new' protec. Cant wait. will try to get the video uploaded to the video vault. Lots of fun. kel
  8. sis, this should amuse you... so its saturday night. we set the alarm for 6:45 am so that we can be at the dz by 7:30 (theres three of us trying to get to work at the same time~shower scheduals and all..) so sunday morning comes early as hell. the alarm goes off, i roll over and peek out the window. Its pouring rain. So i mumble something about "crap weather" and get a "huh? more sleep then" response. I wake up at 7:30 when im supposed to be clocking into work. I peek out the window again and the skys are bright blue, not a cloud to be seen. After a few "OH SHIT!'s" im out of bed, rushing around, trying to get the other 2 ready to leave. !0 minutes later were out the door. Im racing to the dz and i realize that Im so low on gas that its beyond the orange line, and the "check gages" light is on. A few minutes at the gas station and that little annoying light is off. I'm cursing like crazy, just awaiting the usual "kelly youre late to work again. this is your boss, get here now" message on the voice mail. I get to work and hes not there. Not to many people are there. Turns out a lot of us woke up at 6:45, saw the pouring rain, and rolled over and went back to bed. This was just the start of a bad day at work for a lot of us... A long 9 hours later and i was finally clocked out and able to sleep a little before waking up to run around with my pants down around my ankles thru the landing area.... (that story later :) feel better? kel
  9. alex, congratulations on graduating! Its a big thing. Whats totally cool is that you got along with people from your high school so you have people to miss, unlike me (i hated them all! damn catholic school bitches!) and i was so desperate to graduate i celebrated cause i was finally free. anywhoo, congrats. Im glad to see that the high school experience wasnt that traumatizing that you wanted out and away. Hey, welcome to the real world. It basically sucks :) Make sure you do one big thing a year or else instead of saying "my sophomore year i...." you'll be saying "once i... but i cant remember when" it all starts to blend together. You forget dates, times, even what year things happned. AH, oh age. aint it grand? :) CONGRATULATIONS! kel
  10. now dont laugh too hard at me... Bob Dylan's Bringing it all back home (or something like that). Its got some of his classics on there like Mr. Tamborine Man and the Maggies Farm song. Its also got the song about the Mayflower ("I was riding in the Mayflower when I thought i spot some land, I yelled to Captain..... you get my point). Along with my buddy Bob Dylan Ive got Limp Biskit and a dance CD. AH, some people's taste are as different as Night and Day..

  13. To michelles family and friends, to those who jumped with her and to those who jumped thru her, My thoughts and prayers are with you all. The sorrow we feel from the loss of michelle is great, and we can only hope that we can offer you, her friends, our comfort. To flyingferret, Thankyou for posting that poem. It takes me back to the time when that was on the mass card for somebody i loved and lost. Its a powerful poem, one that truely does apply to this situation as it did mine. To see words that describe so perfectly what it is all about.... just keep repeating it. repeat it until you dont even have to think of it to say it. The comfort will come.. and the winds will blow, the snow will fall, the autum rain will fall, and it will always seem to happen as you are saying this poem. I cant tell you how many times ive stared at my cousins gravesite and cried this poem, only to say "and Im am the thousand winds that blow" and a huge gust arises.... it seems that everytime i say it, when im there, some parts of the poem comes true... The words are that powerful. I hope you can all feel michelles presance as you say these words. Shes out there, ready to let you know how very close she truely is... Im sorry for your loss. kel Edited by froggie on 5/29/01 09:13 PM.

    Bandit Jumps

hey shark, kinda a joke but i saw a 'base' jump this weekend. Our friend from England is visiting Xkeys for 2 weeks. Seeing how he was pretty tipsy saturday night he got the smart idea to base jump off of the lockers. hehe. their about 11 feet high. He held his pilot chute and threw it out when he jumped. He was inches from the big soft 'ring' and it inflated. Sadly, if it had been a real jump he'd be seriously injured. but since he jumped onto a huge inflated 'battle' ring (for crazy Monkey Claw jam fun) the only thing hurt was our stomaches from laughin so hard :) froggie
  15. um.. palmetto, listen babe, if were gonna have a boogie, get drunk and get laid, Then you had better believe I wanna be moaning! ROF! couldnt resist :)
  16. patkat, hey. did you show up today? we got in a few hours of good jumping but then the weather turned to crap. Cool lightening show tonight though. If you made it down i hope you got here in time to jump a few. kel
  17. skymama, nope. fruce isnt speaking figuratively. He had a bad landing about 3 weekends ago, maybe 4. In any case, he was damned lucky to walk away. I personally missed it (why does the person standing behind me always call my name in times like this?!?!) but he got up and walked away. Thank god. The frucinator is still alive and well. Prolly see him in the am
  18. sangiro, whats your website again man? wensday night i wandered in (i think) and somehow ended up in some pub. Next thing i remember its 11am and im waking up in my bed. I think i was at that dropzone.com thing.. not sure though. I vaguely remember a pub :) lol
  19. airann, im seriously considering taking a notebook to work with me this weekend and writing down all the quacky things the first time tandems ask me.. Cant tell you how many off the wall "what the frigg are you thinkin asking me that!" questions they come up with. Ahhhh! i love playing with tandems. Soo much fun :)
  20. sis, i know you have hotmail and have to log onto the site to check your email but come on girl.. check yo private messages! dang :) waiting for your reply. wish it was happy hour again too... I was late (goooooood reasons :) and kinda dozed off a bit early too. Hey sangiro, thanks for the 'sound' i heard about it, but didnt hear it myself. im guessing it was a frog noise? :)
  21. hey guys. it seems that more and more of you guys are setting up web sites. so heres a thread where you can post your link. This way, when its 2:40 A.M. (like it is now) folks like me can have one page to base our web surfing from :) I cant seem to keep up with everybodys web sites. Pammi~youre a web site mom now?!?!? WTF! i didnt realize that before! congrats :)
  22. hey sis, in talking to stacy today she told me that youll be down mid june until august! is this true?!?!?! oh, i hope it is! this is going to be amazing!!!! The freak is coming to Xkeys! whoooooooo heeeeeeee! kel
  23. Skip, save it all. and i mean all of it. So that you can go through the program quickly. I did the 'every 2 weeks' thing that turned into the 'every 3 weeks thing' that turned into the 'im purposely going uncurrent because i need to save for my last 3 levels and do them at once because the every 2 or 3 week thing isnt working'. i know that its hard to wait to get started, but trust me, this sucks more. Ive failed two levels and it was shit that shouldnt have happened. Mental stuff. mental stuff that isnt as dominant if you jump in short periods of time. good luck. and hang out here!
  24. cyber.. i figured it out. i wanted to post then compare real time to dz.com time. its a three hour difference. meaning, i can go do whatever until 9pm. then its time to hit the cyber pub! lol. thanks for your guestimate... and the laugh. i know, its funny. but i have trouble figuring out the states directly below me. let alone time zones 3,000+ miles away :)
