I must have missed where this thread came from. Im curious to know what kind of winds he was downwinding? or was he?Any video?

This time of year I would imagine Fla is pretty much cleared out. Cooler climates up here and all. I havent jumped with alot of the bigger names. But Pahokee seems to have alot of excellent coaches. Even if you cant or dont want to go with Olav. I only did one jump with Nathan Gilbert-Team Method -and changed my entire stance. Im completely relaxed and made huge impeovements afterwards. My two cents

As is often the case with skydiving. There is alot of brand loyalty. Me, Ive ruled out buying any Attair product. I have problems with companies going on BB's and saying that another company is going out of business and their products will be recalled. Do yourself a favor. Before you fork out bucks for equipment, jump them. Jump them all if possible.

If there is a problem you'll know it. The canopy will "buck" or bounce. sort of the same as what would happen if youre brake lines are too short. Id say chances are that its fine. A very few number of canopies had the problem. Out of the 20 or so people I know with crossfires, none had the problem before hand.

Im on 129@1.5 or so. I had about 50 jumps on it before the trim change. Afterwards, its still the best canopy Ive flown. Its completely stable no matter what youre doing with the risers. The next paycheck or so Ill buy another one. See if he'll let you put a few a jumps on it before he cashes the check. You shouldnt have any problems.

Swoop meet this weekend at ASC

10 MPH? Im suprised Nathan and TJ didnt run downwind anyways. I know Ive seen video of them downwinding at 23MPH! Theyre nuts! -
All of the above. Also ability to downsize. alot of us are going through canopies pretty fast and I dont want to buy a new container every year. Another very important factor for me was service after the sale. How easy are they to get along with if there is a problem or when repairs are needed. I jump a Mirage and would CONSIDER it as my first choice for my next container.

Agreed. I emailed Simon after the mod was performed on my Crossfire. He called me, on his dime, and spent about an hour discussing the future plans with Icarus. After all was said and done I couldnt have been happier with their customer service. My next canopy will be an Icarus. Hell, I hope to run into Simon over the summer and buy him around or three!

Any chance you have experience with the original models? More specifically, Im interested in the difference between the crossfire and the 2.

I love mine and will most likely get another for my 2nd rig

Croosfire-customer service test
freeflycracker replied to freeflycracker's topic in Gear and Rigging
Actually I did let them know in the subject line of the e-mail. I am not a rigger. But it would seem that with bar tacking the needle would certainly break a few strands rather than slide by every one of them. Creating holes. But Ive been wrong before. -
Croosfire-customer service test
freeflycracker replied to freeflycracker's topic in Gear and Rigging
I sent this a few minutes ago and just thought Id post it here as there have been several discussions about it. Simon, I have had my Crossfire mod performed as required. I've put a few jumps on it. It is not satisfactory. I'll skip a further explanation as I am sure you've heard them. A Crossfire has certain measurements and dimensions that make it a crossfire. I either paid $1500 for a Crossfire or something else with Crossfire written on the side. You've said that only a small percentage of the listed canopies had the problem. I also heard (not through Icarus) that if the wing had the problem it was very obvious. Such as bucking and bouncing when the front risers were pulled down. Before the mod, My front risers caused no such problems. In any conditions. It was the canopy you claimed it to be. Superior. I would like to hear what can be done about this situation. At this point I would accept- The canopy measured,(Its either a Crossfire or not) tested by Icarus, deemed safe in the original configuration and returned with a new line set(I think three sets of holes in the lines is probably not safe). Or send a refund check. Prorated for jumps put on the canopy of course. Feel free to contact me at any of the following -
Another question. moisture?
freeflycracker replied to freeflycracker's topic in Photography and Video
I am considering a Maxxum 5. mainly because of the size and weight. I read, photo site again, that it wasnt sealed very well against dirt and moisture. If you happen to fall through a cloud is it going to have a negative effect on the film or equipment? The other camera I was considering, albeit a heavier larger more expensive one, is the Canon Elan 7. If anyone had any opinions. -
Im ,obviously, new to cameras. Except throw-aways. I was reading a photo-site review. The reviewer said he preferred the heavier all glass prism because of the brighter, larger image in the viewfinder and often times better pictures. I was confused. I assume the better results were coming from a better viewfinder image to compose.

Ive got some mega-electronic store gift certificates to burn up on a still camera. Does it really matter, as far as picture quality, if a camera has a mirror reflector or a solid glass prism?

Assumably, the point at wich the cascade lines attach to the A lines wasnt the manufacturing problem. Simply asprin to cover up the problem. Since this is an assumption: Is a crossfire with the mod performed the same canopy as one that wasnt on the list? Do normal crossfires have the squirrely openings that the modded ones do now?
-
Ive only put about 10 jumps on my 1.55 loaded 129 since the mod was done. I loved the canopy before and never had ANY problems with it .It seems to be a bit more ground hungry now. The openings tend to be a bit more squirrely. I dont really notice much difference in the turns. Flare seems to be the same. The front riser pressure is dramatically increased. Too much. I wonder if Icarus will give me a 30 day money back gaurantee since the mod. Considering its now a completely different canopy than I bought!!
