I used to think that would be a cool summer job, but picture this, you see all kinds of 'stuff' all day, most of which is not the ideal dimensions, and then when you go out to the bar at the end of the day the womens always complain about you bringing your work home with you. -- ~Captain Cutaway I can disassemble a rig in less than 5 seconds...

Congrats on the permanent job? (I thought the cool thing about your job was the ability to go from DZ to DZ) Let me know when you're settled up there and have weekends off so I can use some jumpseat passes to drop by. Uhm, New England has two seasons, Winter, and July... you poor, poor bastard...

Congrats, although I probably wouldn't classify you as PW cuz your posts make sense more than half the time -- ~Captain Cutaway I can disassemble a rig in less than 5 seconds...

I thought I was broke in college, it wasn't until December that I realized what broke really was when I wasn't able to get student loans anymore. You'd better not be tapping from the getlisatoshowherchesticles, aka JFTC fund.

So true, I don't think a weekend goes by where I don't learn a thing or two, but thats the one good thing about being inexperienced -- ~Captain Cutaway I can disassemble a rig in less than 5 seconds...

No contest, Valentine One. http:// http://www.valentineone.com/ Every other detector I have used has wound up under the drivers seat after a week b/c of me thinking it was annoying/useless except for longer trips. I've been using mine for around 3 years now and love it. It tells you how many sources are targeting you, where they are, and what type of equipment they are using so you can tell if Johnny Law is camping in front of the local bank to elude detectors. Of course I don't really speed anymore since it is a job critical thing to not have any tickets on my record, but its nice for a wake up call if I accidentally exceed the speed limit Feel free to PM me with any questions about it -- ~Captain Cutaway I can disassemble a rig in less than 5 seconds...

Read the threads on that, nice work. Thanks for posting how you think you could have done better also, though I think you're being a bit hard on yourself. The end result is most important, just take it as a learning experience. But I'm still new and I don't know shit -- ~Captain Cutaway I can disassemble a rig in less than 5 seconds...

There weren't too many students around, one was there who had just gotten off student status and is making his way towards completing his A, and a second who just got his A. The DZ was pretty quiet b/c of the cold weather though, so it's hard to say. Had a darned good time even though I didn't jump too much and was flying under the S.S. I'm sure not a person to be asking about this, but I got some advice this weekend and will share, but don't rely on this/try it without getting further advice from somebody who knows what they are doing (I do not) The person I was talking to asked if I could walk on my hands, said this helps out the learning process, so I'm working on that now. Another thing he suggested was getting an experienced freeflyer to lawndart me.. by holding onto my mudflaps and dragging into a proper head down attitude so I could see and feel what it was like. Finally, he criticised me for practicing hd without an audible. Again, get advice from somebody who actually knows what they are doing, and this thread might do better in the FreeFlying forum. -- ~Captain Cutaway I can disassemble a rig in less than 5 seconds...

Just two, got there around 10:30 in the morning. I didn't sleep all night before we flew up and started packing around 5:00 AM and didn't think of checking the weather, so I only packed shorts/Tshirt for the trip, and forgot my jump shoes.. So I show up at the 50 degree DZ wearing Short, my DZ.com t-shirt, and dress shoes.. :) Got the funniest looks, somebody asked how far north I had come from, "Uhm, Florida..." Got some good headdown coaching from an AD, who also recommended I not try anymore head down until I get an audible, doh. What about you, how was your weekend? I didn't see you in the Weekend Numbers post -- ~Captain Cutaway I can disassemble a rig in less than 5 seconds...

Hey Pammi, I just got back from Knoxville last night, Skydive Smoky Mountains was really cool, the scenery was amazing, people at the DZ were friendly. The place is surrounded by mountains (small ones, but I'm from Flatland, er I mean Florida, so I was impressed) I went out there Saturday, it was kindof slow because of the cold weather, but there were still full loads of freeflyers from their mega-fast 206. People there seem to be very conservative with canopy selection, maybe because of the increased turbulence from the mountain waves? The smallest rig they had to rent was a brand new Javelin with a Navigator 200. The airport is fairly quiet also, you don't have to worry very much about 'other' pilots barreling through the DZ. Overall I had a good time, and like the DZ a lot. They have a 206 and a 182 that usually run at the same time from what I'm told. I'm still catching up with being back in town, so this is a hurried letter, but feel free to ask anything I've left out. -- ~Captain Cutaway I can disassemble a rig in less than 5 seconds...

Hehe, will do that Chrome... thanks for the link, now if I can just convince these people to use a rig I'll be set, and something sub-boring-student rig, I'll be ecstatic. -- ~Captain Cutaway I can disassemble a rig in less than 5 seconds...

Hey all, I have to fly up to Knoxville, TN Thursday morning and will be staying till Monday morning, so I was wondering where the closest DZ was, and if they might have rig rentals so I can get my B this weekend.
