Tomorrow's My First Jump

Keep those legs up as high as u can get them when you come in for landing. Dont drop them until you have come to a full stop. -
Glad u listened Bobby. dont be in a hurry to downsize. I too copped alot of remarks about the 220 size canopy i was jumping and i just ignored them. I didnt down size until 180 jumps and i dont regret anything. I am still here and my ankles are still pointing the way they should be.

oh okay then , im the man to talk to. I brought a 265 7 cell canopy and shoved it in the main tray. I had a rigger look at it and he said it was safe. So i would say that a raven 4 that is 249 sqf would fit okay. Dont forget that the raven is a 7 cell which packs smaller than a 9 cell. So i would say that you are okay.

Got this fools fake cheque in the mail, please see attached pic. Am currently trying to contact the bank to see if they want all the info to try and catch this scammer. -
According to this http://www.sunpath.com/Legacy_sizchart.htm its designed for a raven 2. I brought my rig which is a j5 and it had a raven 3 in it that was no worries. I think raven 4 is going to be to big though mate. hope this helps.

its a bell balistic full face one. do a google search to find it. They also have open face ones that would be okay. the only issue i had with mine was that the wind was lifting the chin part up during flat work so i just put a strap through the chin guard and run the chin strap through it to keep it down. alot of base jumpers and wearing these.

i jump a full face bell mountain bike helmet. it has 1 inch of high density foam protecting my head. some people laugh at me but i dont care.

i am waiting for this fools cheque as well. i was thinking of playing along and asking him for his return address that i can send the refund cheque to him. then calling the bank or western union or whatever cheque he is faking and seeing if they want to try and catch him. problem is he may be reading this thread now. From what i have read he has no interest in what you are selling so no one will ever come to pick it up. -
the javelin j8 is rated to 300 pounds. http://www.sunpath.com/sizchart.htm

If you are really keen on getting to the 200 jump mark for as cheaply as possible you can fly camera from jump 100. Pick up a cheap camera set up, like sony hc40 / 52 from someone who is upgrading and practice from jump 100 and when you get good at it see if you can find a 4 way team or similar that you can film. They will pay for your slot and free jumps from there on. Good luck on your quest. Remember that the worst thing in life would be lying in some nursing home when your 80 watching tv and seeing some guy having mad fun flying a wingsuit and thinking how you always wanted to do it but never got off your butt and started the aff course.

my protrack has worked perfectly for 180 jumps in 1 year. big thumbs up from me.
-
what i did was up high do a series of turns and look at your alti to get an idea of how much height you are loosing in each turn. On big student canopies a 360 may only loose you only 300 or so feet in height. My mate on his katana 120 can loose 1000 feet for a 360 turn, So there is no exact answer to your question. It is good to be afraid of the ground in low turns though. I have always been very careful of making any more that a slight adjustment below 300 feet after seeing the xrays from a friend of mine who stuffed up a swoop and he now has over 20 screws holding his pelvis together.

Welcome buddy, be prepared to be poor for the rest of your life but have a permanent smile on your face day and night.
-
How long is a piece of string buddy. My first rig i paid $1k US for. It had low jumps on it and had a falcon f111 canopy with talon container and cypres. Sure it wasn't the hottest gear at the dz but i was rapt to be jumping my own gear that was safe and fun to fly. The canopy was big and docile but i didnt care as i was having the time of my life. I wasnt keen on paying $40 per jump just to hire gear which i reakon is such a waste of money. If your loaded a new rig will set u back about $6k. A few people gave me crap about the f111 falcon but they forget how years ago it was the hottest canopy around and millions of jumps were made safely on canopies like it. I recommend you get a zp canopy like a sabre or similar but if the budgets tight a low jump f111 is still very jumpable. hope this helps. cheers
-
As long as its in good condition then i dont see a problem. I can see a possible issue regarding the size of the main tray as aff students usually jump big parachutes and this may effect the size of the canopy that it can take for when u downsize in the future.
-
your probably better asking this question on www.skysurfer.com.au there are alot of australian riggers that log onto that site buddy. I am fairly sure the answer is no. My understanding is that as long as a rigger deems the reserve to be safe he will pack it. cheers

Aust regs are definitely "c" license to jump with tandem. Interesting how different it is, 100 for australia compared with 500 jumps for the usa.
-
500 jumps man thats alot, in australia i am pretty sure its alot less. i did my first jump with a tandem at a little over 100 jumps. like you say it depends on which tm u ask.
