  6. The great thing about nieces/nephews is that you're expected to be the crazy (well, we're skydivers) uncle/aunt who can get away with feeding them junk food, winding them up tight, and releasing them back to their parents to wreak unholy havoc in their wake. Then you get to go home n' chuckle about it;>

  14. Generally, in close air support firing incidents, the main problem is that the ground unit reports the incorrect grid location for the observers to the target (friendly troops). This is either due to a misread map position or be confusing the target (enemy) and observer (friendly) coordinates, then sending the wrong set to the attack aircraft. The pilot is only as good as the data that is given to them. The second most common error resulting in firing incidents is the improper use of laser designating systems for laser guided munitions. The bombs lock in on the strongest source of laser energy in their search window. Given the correct attack vector, the observers designation laser would be masked from the bombs search window. Typically in these incidents, the aircraft is given a 180 degree error on vector and the target becomes the masked energy source. Precision munitions are only as effective as the human element which employs them. Humans error, machines break, accidents happen. We participate in a high risk sport and enjoy it because we maximize our risk reduction measures in order for it to become 'safer', but we acknowledge the risk of something going wrong. The same 'ah-shit' factor applies in war with the same devastating results which we face. Those soldiers volenteered for service knowing the risks they faced in defending their country and their beliefs. Honor them and their families for their sacrifice.

  24. opinion (yeah, like assholes)******* Yeah, too many things going on in their lives to deal with what should have been the most important thing in their lives, their own son. Now the shame and guilt of knowing that they should have known he was in such a state of mind that suicide was, in his opinion, his only out. Grief causes people to do odd things and frivolously blaming others is not uncommon. The fact that there is a parasitic legal type (I won't defame real lawyers with the association) that eggs this type of behavior on (which also becomes another obstacle to the healing process) is sickening. Course, that's just my opinion.
