I've added an option to buy this dual-cam glove on my page. I did include a note that it's at a discount because the current version is probably not the final. Lately I'm getting several requests from people who want the glove as it is now, so I decided to offer it as-is with a disclaimer that more changes will likely occur over the next month or two before the design is finished. http://www.funjump.com/products.html

It could be for GoPros... like a bug's view with 35 cams all pointed at the subject. Some people I know would love having that many cameras on them at once!

Patches are great for jumpsuits. Putting them on containers could be considered modifications, which could be issues for any riggers who pack it in the future. Also, one day you'll probably sell your container and the new owner probably won't want the patches. Then if you remove them, the fabric will be a different color where the patches used to be. Better to put those patches on suits.

Let me get the next revision designed and I'll put it in on my web page for sale. Since it's still a work in progress, there'll be a beta version discount. I'll reply here when it's available in a week or two.

For the GoPro HD, we have four of these gloves at my DZ now. It works great, but there are a few rough edges I'm working out in the design. In the photos below you can see one of the bugs I'm working to eliminate: the lower camera's lens bezel is showing up in bottom of the still frame. We should have that sorted out soon. I did send one of these gloves to a friend in NY, and he's using it with an old GoPro, just adding stuffing behind it to fill up the space, and he says that works fine. Chris

Be cateful mounting it anywhere near the shoulder because you could block correct operation of your 3-ring release system, RSL, or other important hardware. Maybe you're thinking of the mudflap panel, which would usually be a bit safer, but that's more on the upper chest area

Whenever I've called Precision they've answered the phone & passed me to whomever could best address my question... sometimes straight to the owner.

Any pictures of yourself while working ???
parachutist replied to ArnoSchutte's topic in Photography and Video
This customer got outside photo/video + handcam photo/video. That's me in the door. Credits to Nicky Byers for the shot Chris -
This is Nicky with our doublestuffed GoPro glove. He's jumping a prototype that needs a couple minor tweaks, but it's almost ready for production Chris

IMO, best suggestion is spend a few $$ for an up-to-date video editing app. Under $100 for everything you need to edit most any file type you thow at it: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832135286&cm_re=vegas_movie_studio_hd_platinum_10-_-32-135-286-_-Product

You could crop a video image as you're suggesting, but the resulting image would be low quality. It's better to shoot good footage in the first place rather than try to clean up existing footage. The camera needs to be very close when you're filming with a wide angle GoPro. If you can reach out and touch the camera while it's filming you, then it's in the right position. In these photos the GoPro HD was on my hand: http://public.fotki.com/parachutist/doublestuff_hc_gopro_hd/ Chris

There's always a little shake of a hand in freefall, but it's the hand & not the glove/cam in this case. See what you think: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTJfAEJwZ-E I just can't see it as being feasible for skydiving purposes to mount a camera on the wrist with a major snag point, so using soft gloves & eliminating the plastic housing seemed like a necessity for air sports to me. Do you have a sample tandem video shot using one of these CF hand mounts? It'd be nice to compare footage, but so far I haven't found any samples online. So far I've been making a few at a time.... there are about 30 single-cam gloves in use so far. If I had an order for 100 I could fill that in 3-4 weeks. Really the designs I'm using for single or double cameras are specifically focused to fit the needs of the skydiving market, and the original reason was for use as a tandem handcam. I consider that to be a narrow market that can be filled on a per-order basis right now. I can see what you mean about the ability to receive many identical items fast with those CF mounts. They're pretty simple with few parts, and that can be a bonus in some cases. Chris

I took the glove idea a few steps further and made it smaller than what you're offering (install a HD Hero to your plate and it'll stand up pretty tall) with no shake present, and provided instant access to the power charging plug & card slot. Your wrist setup looks like the bulky choice to me, with limited access to plugs and cards. Here's an example of just how bulky your wrist plate will be once you've attached a GoPro HD camera. In this photo you'll see my DoubleStuff HD Hero glove with two cameras (one for video & one for stills) taking up the same vertical space as one HD Hero in the stock plastic case. Chris

Yesterday our pilot's girlfriend came out to do a tandem. We had several GoPro handcam gloves around, so the TI used one in video mode, and they put one on the passenger in photo mode. They came up with some pretty good photos. Chris

Wow.. really? I guess I need to play with Vegas more. Thanks for the correction, DSE. What about scrubbing? I have an average PC, and I can't get that smooth dynamic real time, non-frame skipping scrubbing on Vegas. Is it my computer or the program? 4DBill http://www.4dwireless.net/4dbill I've had the same complaints with scrubbing GoPro HD footage in Vegas Pro 9, and I've been using a fairly high end quad-core system. I think I got spoiled with editing MPEG2 files because I could grab the CTI bar, drag it at whatever speed I liked, and see smooth video flowing in the preview window. When I'm doing that with MP4s from a GoPro HD, the preview is no longer smooth.. it's choppy. So I need to slow down in my scrubbing. I can still be very accurate, but it takes a little more patience. Spot showed me that if I use the JKL keys to scrub, then the preview is once again smooth. Using JKL isn't as fast as clicking and dragging however... so I still drag the CTI bar around and just deal with the choppiness, zooming in on timeline and using JKL when I need more accuracy.

It'd be easy because the reserve closing pin holds the two sides of the cypres closing loop apart, and the seal thread is very thin. Take a look at that area on your rig.

I've been happiest with results of r3 which is 720p @ 60fps. It allows for smooth slo-mo edits and it's the widest option.

Anyone else with a contourHD for handcam?
parachutist replied to Liemberg's topic in Photography and Video
Can you show us some footage you've shot and a picture of your glove setup? At my DZ we've got several TIs using HD Heros for handcams, but no contours. -
AVC(HD?) editing hardware requirements
parachutist replied to skittles_of_SDC's topic in Photography and Video
RAID 0 works great for speed, but it concerns me if that's the only editing system available because if one disk fails or if the RAID controller has an issue then the whole system is down. If you go that route at least make sure you have a ghost image of the system to upload and a spare drive in case you need to rebuild an array. You can keep the system simple with 7200 rpm drives and the main bottleneck will be the CPU, so RAID 0 will help the speed a little but not enough for the extra risk IMHO unless you're going RAID 10. And with fast SSDs on the market I prefer a root drive running one of those instead of RAID: no seek time, no crunching noises with SSDs as the drive deals with swap files, etc. -

Those specs will work fine. In reality the 16 gigs memory is overkill.. 8 gigs would be more than enough, and the video card doesn't matter because it's just 2D you'll be working with. The dual quad core CPus is a good thing, cause the CPU gets hit more than anything else when I'm rendering video from the GoPro (the original clip is 720p 60fps, getting downconverted to standard widescreen DVD mpeg) 5400 rpm drives are slow and you'll notice it. Make sure your new SATA drives are 7200 or go with a fast SSD for the C: drive and SATA 7200 for the scratch disk Chris -
Yeah.. I found the original unretouched version online. It shows the real story http://www.funjump.com/lockstitch00.gif

That explains why our editor was asking me earlier today if she should accept the Vegas update.. she was getting nagging update notices all day. I didn't want to run an update during a busy jump day cause you never know what idiosyncracies might happen after a new rev

So far everyone's said it feels great, no complaints about digging in. The way I've been adjusting it for my use it's all relatively loose until exit time. At that point I make a fist , which tightens the glove against my hand and holds the camera in a rigid position. The lens cover is attached to the glove: There's a nylon ring on the inside of the plastic front wall, and the screws go into that. The top wall is stretchy at the right side (lycra), so you can pull the lens cover forward, slide the camera into position behind it, then release and the cover pops back into position. Chris

I have a similar design that's ready for the general public. We've been testing and revising this item for about six months. The most common use is tandem handcams, but a few funjumpers have used them for shots of themselves and surroundings, with unique results. 12 different jumpers with different size hands, both male and female, have helped us test the two glove sizes. Large and Small are the general sizes, and each may be fine tuned using a front adjustable strap and velcro rear strap. Sigma main D-bag wear at drogue attach point
parachutist replied to parachutist's topic in Gear and Rigging
As a followup, here are some photos of the wear... I got a reply from UPT suggesting use of Soft links at drogue bridle / bag attach point to prevent this from happening. We retired this bag and got a new one. Chris
