I think those canopies would be more suited for a D3. My D2 had a Firlelite 175 reserve with Lightning 160 main, and the main canopy would show out of the corners... container not big enough. That was ok for a CRW rig, but not for a freefall rig.
-
Yes, however it'll be tight and it'll make the main compartment a bit tighter by pushing into the main compartment, which means a 160 main will likely fit snug, but a 175 main could be really tight and not right for the rig. What size main?

This is a link to the instruction document for our dual-cam setup. Closeup photos from different angles are included: http://www.funjump.com/files/Dual_cam_glove_instructions.pdf More info and a new sample video with photos have been added to: http://www.funjump.com/products.html#Dual Chris -
I've always wondered what should go into a micro Sigma. I can't find any info about the difference between a Sigma and micro Sigma on UPT's page.

How are you judging its ruggedness? I like the fact that the Argus is so small compared to other devices, but it really seems less rugged to me. It has thin cables and a lightweight casing

What US DZs Offer Hand Cam Tandem Vid

Thanks! They're stacked on top of each other, but the top cam is offset to the rear enough to allow access to record button and mic on the bottom cam. Side-by-side would have made it more of a hassle to remove cards and to plug in power cables... that's why we chose stacked. Some photos are on my page (scroll down past the single-cam glove). http://www.funjump.com/products.html The design is finalized now, so in a few days I'll update that page with more closeup photos of the final rev. I agree on the stills, but it seems that there's no image stabilization and the video is more shaky. It takes a bit of practice and adjusting your technique to create smoother videos with the GoPro. Here's one from a couple days ago, shot with the dual-cam GoPro glove: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_NCiL6aLyU This customer originally bought photos, I just hit record on the bottom cam during jump run and we sold the video on the ground. -

We've been running a dual gopro setup all summer. 8 of our instructors now use these. It's compact with very little snag hazard, and the customers have been quite happy with the results: http://www.funjump.com/products.html -
We have a sandy environment here and ours are going 400 jumps. At that point I don't expect breakage yet, but they're looking dirty grey with a little fuzziness, and they're feeling sticky.. so we replace

You're just experiencing some basic learning pains. Yes both issues are easy to address. Since I know DSE is busy out having fun wingsuiting at a boogie today, I'll see if I can help. First is ripple effect. At the top of your Vegas screen you'll see a few pushbutton options... one has a drop-down box option next to it. If you hover the mouse cursor over it you'll see it says "Auto Ripple" If you click on the image, it'll turn off ripple effect and now when you change one event it will no longer affect others. That's how you turn ripple effect on or off... it's a very handy feature to use in many cases... maybe check out the options in the drop-down box and see how they differ. Next issue: selecting what you'd like to split. If you have a few tracks on a timeline and they have overlapping events, but you only want to split one of those events... click on that particular event, at the place where you'd like to split. The event should now be highlighted, showing that it's been selected. Now if you his "S" on your keyboard, Vegas should split only that event. Howverer if you want to split everything on the timeline at a specific point, click above all the events. This will make it so that no events are highlighted. If you hit "S" now, all events will be split.

GoPro is now selling the 960 version: http://www.goprocamera.com/products/hd-hero-960-camera.php It's lacking the 60fps 720p video mode unfortunately, however it does have the same 5mp photo every X seconds that its big brother uses. So for dual-cam use this seems like a great deal: I'll have a HD Hero for video and Hero 960 for photos.

Would have taken US weeks to research that information. Thanks DSE! Another question: 720p over R2 or R3? We are using Sony Vegas 9 Platinum. R3 is what we are all using at my DZ (about 9 or 10 instructors with GoPro HD handcams). R3 provides smoother videos for us, especially for slomo sections

Are you locked into a CX110 setup already? A GoPro HD handcam setup is less than half the weight, less than half the size, costs less than half as much... and on top of all that provides a better image for handcam. The only real downside is the audio on a GoPro: Sonys are better for that. Chris

Skydive in Santa Barbara area?/Skydivers at UCSB?
parachutist replied to vegardin's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Skydive Santa Barbara is about 45 mins N of UCSB area, in city of Lompoc. We get quite a few UCSB students who come here for tandem dives. We fly a PAC 750 right now, sometimes a Cessna 206... mainly depends on how many people are jumping. For directions or more info, check out our web page: http://www.skydivesantabarbara.com/ Chris -
We had a GoPro HD here that would freeze whenever trying to shoot photos or vids. I was about to send it in with RMA for repair, but figured why not try the update before shipping. New firmware is installed and now it works. Hopefully that's all it needed. We'll test it at the DZ next.

I liked reading this part because recently I've become interested in learning more about big-way RW formations and participating in them. So far I've made about 7200 jumps, yet my largest RW formation: 24. Watching the World Team's videos over the years has been an inspiration, and I'm hoping that one day I can join in. Big-way training camps would be a great way for myself and my girlfriend to advance in this sport!

Vegas Movie Studio Pro 8 crashing w Go Pro HD
parachutist replied to skydiveoc's topic in Photography and Video
Newer versions of Vegas (both Movie Studio and Pro) are handling GoPro footage much better than earlier versions. Sony makes it easy to test their software, so you can find out if the new version will resolve your issue: Just go here & download the trial copy: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/products/vegasfamily.asp?keycode=3138-3000 I think you'll see a big difference in speed Chris -
Full-face GoPro Mount Opinions
parachutist replied to BH_Composites's topic in Photography and Video
How about a bridge that steps over the button on top of the shield: a flat bar that's as tall as the GoPro , yet a little wider. Flip the GoPro upside down & put the mount point at top of the bar. GoPro housing sits flush against the bar. This way there's no small mount point at bottom for a line to go around. There could be a plastic piece on the flat bar... the GoPro housing sinks into the plastic shroud & prevents lines from going around the outside or bottom of the GoPro. Try snagging something on it if made the way I have it in my head.. snagging would be very difficult. That requires more custom parts than are in your original design, tho -
That's the weird part. The other one I have I can use perfectly, and could from day 1. These two are tight as hell, and I can only activate it with my teeth instead. deja vu... my first one has teeth marks on it. I was pointing it down a little in my mouth & using my lower teeth to activate it for a while

Practice. It's the advice I was given by DSE a few years ago when I got my first tongue switch. If your tongue isn't accustomed to forming a sharp point and applying pressure, it's just going to take some practice. Also with use the parts will break in & loosen up a bit.

Drift Innovation HD170 - New Competitor to the GoPro
parachutist replied to aardvarkeater's topic in Photography and Video
Link? Are there any 60fps options? -
Usually the answer would be No... but since you just received your single-cam glove two days ago, I can make an exception. Keep using yours for now. It'll probly take me a week to get the new one made... you can send back the single-cam glove after your double one arrives. Honestly I like having both a single and double glove on hand, with three cams total. That way I always have one glove charging on the ground. Total expense for all hardware required in that scenario costs about the same as a single handcam setup would've cost a couple years ago.
