Everyone but you (that I've seen) says it was his cousin, and there are other people in the world called 'Tray'. That's why I think you're incorrect. OK, here's my question: if it was Trayvon Martin's brother, why didn't he know from Trayvon that he swung on a bus driver, who did he hear it from and was the information reliable? Look up the definition of hearsay, add a few more degrees of seperation, then look again at your incriminating evidence. The article I read claims that his brother Stephen Martin is the one who tweeted him. When did I mention incriminating evidence? You said I was incorrect in saying that his brother tweeted him, I simply showed you where I got that. Are you saying you've never heard about something happening to a family member from anyone but that person? I doubt that. I sure have. So you think I'm incorrect. You dont know for sure. Not exactly grounds for claiming my information is incorrect wouldn't you say? "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52

Your information is incorrect. Hmm. So that screenshot isn't real? Everyone knows NO_LIMIT_NIGGA was TM, and you're saying TRAY'S BIG BRUH wasn't TM's big brother? I'd like to know how you are certain I'm incorrect here. It doesn't take a genius to read that picture. But I did go to high school. And college. Twice. So maybe that helps. If you need help reading it just ask. "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52

Assumes facts not in evidence. Did he not get suspended from school for punching a bus driver? I'm going to go with... no. He did not. (Unless you have a better source of information than some other kid questioning a rumour on Twitter?) Apparently there's 3 different stories about why he was suspended. he was in an unauthorized area on school property Suspended for 10 days? Very doubtful The current story is because of an empty marijuana bag. Having seen this when i was in high school (and a private one at that), it was never 10 days. That's a huge suspension. His brother tweeted to him just a few days after his suspension and before he died "yu aint tell me yu swung on a bus driver" Whether it was the cause of his suspension or not, I'd say he did swing on one. In a different story, how the fuck is someone supposed to read this? "@NO_LIMIT_NIGGA IMA MISS YU TILL I DIE DOG I KNOW YU WHOOPED HIS ASS DOE.. CUZ I PRAY GOD HELP ME AND WATCH YU LOVE YOU CUZZ REST ETERNALLY." You're in school for a reason. Learn some damn english. Edit: Good find there normiss, very detailed. I didn't realize he was suspended several times. Not surprised, just didn't know. Apparently his brother is a lousy source "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Or a different scenario: TM: What're you following me for? GZ: What are you doing in this neighborhood? TM: I aint gotta tell you shit. GZ: Tell me what you're doing here. TM: Who the hell are you? GZ: Answer my question. The police are on the way. TM: Fuck you, cracka (or insert your own words) TM: swings a punch at GZ fight ensues, TM starts to get the better of GZ, begins pounding his head into the ground. GZ has no choice and draws gun and shoots Just as likely. IMO more likely, but my opinion doesn't mean a damn thing. "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Assumes facts not in evidence. Did he not get suspended from school for punching a bus driver? Do you remember any of those twitter comments that he made before his family took them down? Why is it suprising that he'd confront someone who was following him? "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52

It happened to me more than once. What'd I do? Went home or somewhere public. It's only proactive if it's with a violent kid. I'm not violent, so I avoid violence. He had a history of violence, why is it surprising that he'd confront someone who was following him? I know enough "thugs" who start fights for someone simply looking at them wrong. You TM supporters act like you've never dealt with these kinds of kids/people before. Judging that he was a violent, drug-using teenager (school records, twitter records) it's absolutely no surprise he went looking for a fight with someone he had an issue with. Question about coming back from a long spot
linebckr83 replied to Deimian's topic in Safety and Training
Would the success of the "deep brakes" being better depend on how strong the tailwind is? I mean if your tail wind was pretty weak, wouldn't you be better off keeping the canopy's flying speed up? (rear risers) Naturally yes. If your tailwind is basically nothing, floating in deep brakes will not be extremely effective as you are also slowing your airspeed down considerably while in brakes. In that configuration you are essentially "riding the wind". No wind, not much movement. Rear risers would be a better bet since you will have forward movement because of your airspeed. What is the point where you switch gears from rear risers to riding in brakes? That's where differences in wind, windloading, and canopy trim/design come in to play. Your best best is to take yours up and play with it! "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52 -
Question about coming back from a long spot
linebckr83 replied to Deimian's topic in Safety and Training
This is the way it was described to me: Imagine that you are in a giant blimp. So giant that you can fly a parachute inside of it. Say this blimp is moving forward at 100mph. Inside of it, you are flying your parachute around with a forward speed of 20mph. If you are flying your canopy in the same direction as the blimp is flying, does your canopy "see" 120mph of air or only 20? If you turn around and fly the opposite direction, will you feel 80mph of wind on your back? The answer of course is no. The blimp represents an air mass. Wind is simply a measure of the motion of this air mass in relation to the ground. So if you are flying your canopy in wind, you are flying around inside of this moving air mass just like the blimp example. The only affect it will have is in relation to the ground. Your parachute will "see" the same speed of air moving over it regardless of how the air mass is moving. So if you are upwind on a long spot, you are in an air mass moving towards your target, and you want to stay off the ground until you get to this target. Like others said, generally your best bet is to ride in deep brakes and essentially "float" and let the air mass carry you to your target. If you are downwind on a long spot, you are in an air mass moving away from your target. Obviously in this case you do not want to simply "float" as the air mass will just carry you further away. You need as much forward speed as possible to overcome the air mass's opposite motion and get to your target. Your best bet is to get in full flight and possibly use front risers, but people tend to debate on that part. In either case, you want to move forward in the air mass as much as possible. How do you go forward more? You speed up. How do you speed up? You get rid of what is slowing you down (reduce drag). The best way to do this is get small. Pull legs up, tuck arms in. Your drag is reduced and your forward speed increases. This helps in either case, whether you're floating in the air mass or fighting it. Many people think if they are upwind they can "get big" and use the wind to push them back. But refer back to the blimp example. If the same blimp is flying 100mph forward, and you are inside it flying 20mph normally, you have 120mph speed in relation to the ground. Say you get as big as possible. What changed? You just increased your drag, and your canopy speed reduces to 18mph. Now you are traveling at 118mph. You are hurting your chance at getting back. If you get small and begin flying at 22mph, your speed over the ground is now 122mph. So remember...the wind is what it is. It's a moving air mass and you have no control over that. What you can control is your own speed while in this air mass, and amount of time inside it. For the future in case you don't know the difference between groundspeed and airspeed. In the blimp example, your airspeed is 20mph. It is the physical flow over and around your airfoil. Your ground speed would be 120mph, and it is your speed in relation to the ground. So basically a sum of all things affecting your speed over the ground. Very different things and its an important concept to understand in regards to flying canopies. "Are you coming to the party? How often does line twist happen in student jumps
linebckr83 replied to dpfire29's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Ive never had a problem dumping in full track and dont understand how this can be a bad thing. This is pretty much the norm after breakoff where we jump. Track, maybe roll, quick wave and pull. As for line twists ive 200 jumps and gotten line twists about 4 times total since jump 1 and they are nothing to worry about on student canopies. just kick out like on a swing. I wish I had the same experience. During my first 50 jumps I dumped in a full track. Blew open the 2 right outer cells on my spectre 210 "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52 -
"I jump Sigmas. One day I had line twists similar to yours that I couldn't untwist. I would start to untwist, get 90 degrees and turn back towards the rear again. Shit, gonna have to chop. Then I realized that the passenger's legs were sticking out like a weather vane. We'd get sideways and the wind from our canopy's forward speed would push us around backwards. I told him to tuck his legs back between mine. From there we were able to untwist normally. I hope this experience of mine may be useful to others in future line twist situations." JohnMitchell "Second that, jump sigmas with 330's and the top tip from my examiner I still use to this day is to get the student to basically cross their arms and arch. TM to do like wise besides crossing arms no input just let it unwind, has worked for me several times. Obviously this doesn't suit all and every occasion, but with a square canopy above me and over a 1000 tandems have never had to kick out of a tandem line twist yet." freeflymat "Yes! I had the same experience on an Icarus 330. Thought I was gonna have to chop too but then realized the same thing. Since it opens it full flight we were facing backwards because of our wind vaning knees. As we tried to kick out we would get 90 degrees and the wind just pushed us back to the starting point. I've learned the "stand up" technique where I ask the student to stand up like they are doing a toothpick jump into a pool. Sure enough, we began spinning out of the twists immediately!" Me "Thanks for the replies. I'm glad to see many of us are figuring out those line twists. Isn't it weird to have such an "Ah Ha!"moment under a line twisted canopy with 200 pounds of person on the front? I've tried to spread the word on my experiences with this, but haven't been very successful. Maybe all of us in this forum talking about it will help." JohnMitchell Did you read the rest of the thread? Doesn't sound that magical does it? Did you miss the part where we were talking about tandem canopies that open in full flight? I'm sorry your experience differs from the rest of us, but go ahead and stay with your obviously superior technique. I'll enjoy not being stuck in line twists. "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52

I wouldn't say very difficult, just a different technique. Just stand up straight. The last time I had line twists I asked the student to stand up and did our handcam post-freefall interview while we untwisted. "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" How often does line twist happen in student jumps
linebckr83 replied to dpfire29's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Like they all said, at your stage it is all about symmetrical body position during deployment. I will add this though: as you continue through your progression and begin packing for yourself, make sure you leave the proper amount of excess line between the last line stow and the risers. Too little line has shown to have a tendency to delay line stretch and the bag can get caught in your burble and rotate before continuing on its way. "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52 -
Video looks fun! On sunset loads a couple of us used to strap a beer on our chest strap and do a hop n pop at 10k. Finish the beer (better yet, leave just a tad in the bottom) and let it go then try to chase it down and kick it mid-air. Or try to catch it in one of the canopy cells. Good times! Typing too many over-the-top posts about how unsafe the world is around you could cause you to be attacked by a polar bear while you're taking a shit in the middle of the night. Its never happened...but keep an eye out because you just never know. Not sure what plane you're talking about, but a can would be extremely difficult to fit in that gap by hand on a 182, let alone an 80mph wind throwing it all over the place. If you worry about some of the stuff you say you worry about, I imagine your typical day is just miserable! "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Well first off, the wind speed won't affect how loud the air is. You still have the same airspeed no matter what direction or magnitude of wind over the ground. So don't expect it to be any quieter on a different day. Were you wearing a helmet over your earpiece? Once you landed, did they check the volume level of your radio? Did your instructors teach you how to fly a proper pattern and land without radios? The first jump course should have included all this information. The radio is just for backup so you should know what to do if the radio fails or cannot be heard...kind of like your case. If not, I'd ask them to teach you that subject as it is required. By the way, congrats on the first jump and welcome! "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52

While interviewing for this job (flight test engineer) I listed that I'm an instructor. It came up later in the interview and the general joke was that I might be a premature exit risk. "Wait, whats that red light? Shit, I'm out of here!" They briefly asked what skydiving has taught me and I touched on the basic areas like thinking on my feet, troubleshooting, working well with people, etc. It seemed to really help and here I am now. Like others have said, it depends on your job title but with people who routinely fly 20 million dollar jets outside of their envelope, bail-out is a real possibility and not such a crazy idea. If you list it, be sure to tie it to real world skills that make you a better candidate. "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52

Dan being frightening isn't such a bad thing. But I would try to gear that fear towards respect and caution more than "just scared." As you are aware, a lot of people die under their parachutes but take the time to learn to control and fly a parachute in your skill range. Especially defensive skills. Your chances of having a safe skydiving career will increase exponentially. "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52

After a normal skydive deploying at +/-3k, how much time do you have before you are entering the pattern to land? Not much right? The best advice I got was to go do high altitude hop n' pops to really learn the wing. It's amazing how much more "in sync" you feel with your parachute after 4 or 5 of those jumps. Confidence rises, so does comfort and enjoyment and safety. "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52

Generally a longer snivel will lead to more off-heading openings also. More time for the opening parachute to hunt for a heading. I owned a Pilot 188 at 1.1:1 and remember the long soft snivels with an occasional off-heading opening, but I'd say it took about 1000ft consistently to open. 1500ft is a long ways. That's not a bad thing. I noticed most of my old friends didn't have very exciting lives. Almost 40 years later as a part time instructor and I'm not burned out yet. Keeping a balance in my life has kept it fun. I do have to admit my ~200 jumps a year pale in comparison to the 1000+ jumps a year by the full time guys, but my 401K probably looks better. Total agreement. Every weekend for the first 4 years and I started getting a little burned out. Since then I'm an every-other-weekend kind of jumper. Usually work jumps with fun jumps tossed in with time. On my off weekends I'm taking the boat to the lake, camping, spending time with friends and family. I love the mix I found! To the OP, I started jumping while in college and couldn't afford to just throw money down all over. I had to space my student jumps out, but once licensed I got signed off to pack student parachutes very quickly. I used that to supplement jumps until I got a coach rating which helped more. Then became a tandem packer and made sure I broke even every day. If I didn't pack, I didn't jump. Dave is right about the gear. Find a decent used setup and you'll get most of your money back when you sell it to upgrade. Nowadays I always leave the dz with much more money than I arrived with while still having fun. Sadly that money goes to funding almost all my gas on the water. "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52

Total sample was 1,000 indeed. Of that 100 were black. You are correct I mininterpreted that. What about looking at the other side of it. 0 out of 100 black individuals polled said they would vote for Romney. Do you really believe not a single one of those 100 people believe in his policies? Did you miss my post where I clarified for you that the sample size was 1000, with 100 of them being further surveyed? I guess so. At any rate, saying there was a 90% confidence level isnt an accurate statement. And the margin of error was 3% as the article stated. I have my own personal evidence of it. I'm not saying every black person votes this way, but there are some yes. Just like some white people I'm sure. "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!"
