    New dog!

Not really luck of the draw. It's not that difficult to find any pure-bred rescue. At your basic shelters like The Humane Society or your local Animal Care & Control, you might have to get on a waiting list for a specific breed (labs, golden retrievers, boxers are most popular). This is common and why you rarely see pure-breds in shelters b/c many people want a pure-bred, have an affinity for a specific breed, and thus the dogs are adopted out before they even make it to the adoption area. HSUS & AC&C are good ideas for people with larger dogs in mind. If you want a specific breed, simply ask about the waiting list. And there's no law that says you can't get on every waiting list of every shelter w/in a 50-mile radius. For smaller dogs, breed-specific rescue organizations are a great idea. They're everywhere for nearly (if not all) every small-dog breed and also many large-dog breeds. If the rescue is not local, they are typically very accommodating to come to you or meet you half-way. Like a breeder, most are also familiar with temperament & history of the dog and offer advice & help after the adoption as well. I'm purposefully refraining from going into details about breeder and/or pet store vs. rescue. I believe that discussion would be appropriate for another time & thread. I think there's a common misconception of shelters and shelter dogs--that everything is "unknown". Sometimes this is true, but in the months we spent visiting various shelters I found it not to be the standard. We knew we had to find a dog that would get along well with the cats--first and foremost. We were pleased to find several dogs available whose card read "likes cats" or something similar. Cruzer's did (He also had a "kennel name" and we changed it immediately.) Cruzer is 50 pounds. Sabre is 12 pounds. Zoe' is 9 pounds. And both kitties RULE him. This morning the three of them were snuggled up together on the corner of the bed.

    New dog!

I paid $150 for the white, alternative-down comforter my beloved mutt sleeps on. It was once mine. He disagreed. I bought another one. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

    New dog!

I think Joey is a cute name. It always reminds me of the Concrete Blonde song. Joey doesn't have to be for "Joseph" anymore than "Carrie" must be for "Carolyn".
  4. I'm still a bat... (again, specifically a golden-crowned flying fox. ) Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

    New dog!

My entire family (and all of our friends) have papillons.
  6. OK. You be an alligator. I'll be a bat... specifically the golden-crowned flying fox. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

It wasn't. But, part of the fun is the imaginative guesses. Yours was just obvious. And that's no fun. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

Thread killer! Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  10. Actually I haven't been to a Subway (or any fast food-type restaurant) in a LONG time. We just saw a commercial for it yesterday and a friend made the comment he'd go if they had a drive thru. My post is a recreation of us teasing him when he said that. Stories are always better in the first-person. Thanks for playing, Serious Sally. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  11. I had no idea people had such strong opinions about Corliss... His name barely rang a bell to me when I caught his appearance on the Today show regarding his countersuit for the Empire State Building jump attempt. I posted my thoughts about said attempt (unsupportive) and only thereafter did I see there were so many other threads about him. While I wasn't at all impressed with his demeanor on the Today show, I don't see what all the negative fuss is about with his other pursuits. The man wants to attempt to land a wingsuit without deploying a parachute. Well, OK. Go for it, dude. Not sure why that might upset anyone. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  12. I don't want to walk in, wait in line and walk out for my healthy Subway sandwich! Too much work. Too much energy. It's one thing to be located in a freaking busy shopping center I don't want to bother driving into anyways. It's quite another to not at least be located at the end and have a drive thru like the very considerate, and beloved Starbucks chain store that braves the shopping center location. Sammich = energy. If I had any to walk in and stand for freaking ever, why would I need the sammich? I'm just saying. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  13. Funny! Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  14. My suspicion is also "non-intentional suicide". Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  15. I'm--kinda shocked. And that's weird b/c I never care enough to be so, and if I do it's never a surprise. No-one mentioned "Lords of Dogtown" which Billy HAD to see () and turns out I really enjoyed () and Ledger was FANTASTIC in that movie!
  16. Just for the record I think our system here is crap! Everyone should get a vote for one candidate--any party, no matter what party they are registered under. But, I'm biased. Love, Independent in Florida Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

    Bourne

Actually, I didn't think the third one (Ultimatum) was more predictable than the second (just saw it). It definitely was predictable in parts but not as necessarily to the plotline as the second. For example: It was obvious in the second Nikki somehow knew Bourne on a more personal level--one always assumes intimately. She was the only one who didn't seem to doubt Bourne's amnesia. And in the third installment, when she first saw him she wasn't scared. I don't think it's that difficult--the idea behind it (and they said it numerous times) from the very beginning is Bourne (and the like) do not make mistakes. Thus everything he does in each movie one simply must ask "Why?" and it doesn't take a genius to figure out in less than 30 seconds if you're not wrapped up in the "action" of it all. I like the third one better than the second and on par with the first. But it should be noted I had to stop the third at least six times for 5 to 30-minute intervals due to external circumstances. Good movie.

    Bourne

It was obvious Marie would die. Once he switched seats with her in the first car chase, it was obvious that was when she'd die. First, b/c the chaser had already seen Bourne in the driver's seat. Thus, if he were to fire a shot or anything else, that would be his target. It was then obvious after she was shot, that it might come up later somehow that he was responsbile for her death (it did in the latter scene with Abbott but not to the point I thought it might. I thought there might be more guilt there on his part then they really showed. Edit: it just seemed like an oversight on his part and I'm surprised it was not addressed more.) It was obvious the Treadstone guy, Abbott, had something to do with Bourne's fingerprint. I called that right away when the Landy lady started investigating. There were many hints to that effect. It was obvious why he used his passport (would have been a really stupid mistake otherwise). At this point, it's also obvious Bourne killed Neski (can't remember at exactly what point that was clear--but early on) and these are what his flashbacks are. I will say, I thought after Bourne reviewed the papers he already remembered the killing before going to the Brecker Hotel--I thought he was doing that intentionally and would purposefully lead Landy there to help her unfold the case. Then it gets predictable again--obvious Bourne would visit Abbott next. The last high-speed chase wasn't exactly predictable, but while you found it excited, I found it long and drawn out. I figured in the first movie that at some point his real birthname would be revealed and it would not be "Bourne", and that did come up at the end of the second movie. Second Edit: Again though, I thought this was a very good movie. I'm extremely critical of action flicks b/c there's always major problems with them concerning plot, cohesiveness, believability and over-use of effect. As far as action sequences and plot, and cohesiveness & even believability I thought Bourne (both thus far) was done really well.

    Bourne

Just saw the second one--supremacy. It was OK. A good movie. Definitely a lot better than most action flicks. I hate to sound like a smarty-pants, but it was predictable from beginning to end. The only point which came as a surprise to me (and it's a moot point) was in the last car chase when the police car smashed head-on into Bourne's car (the taxi) from the side. I see what people love about the Bourne flicks so far, though. We'll likely watch the last installment tomorrow or sometime this week.
  22. Soon it will be eight years (it's almost that for us and I feel the same way!).

    Bourne

Don't feel bad. Bill and I just saw the first one today. We haven't been able to leave the house for a while...and we have the second & third ones to watch next. It's like Bourne fans are pushers and we're the last kids on the block to not buy some goods. Geez. I enjoyed it.
  24. I didn't suggest that. If it seemed to you (or anyone else) that is what I would advise, it was not my intention. I agree. I decided it wasn't worth pursuing (at the well-made point of a friend). In a nutshell, I don't think he should have done it. But, since he did know he was "doing something wrong" (regardless of being cleared of wrongdoing, or why would there be a need for a disguise?) he should be willing to accept the consequences of his actions. Security was doing their job. It's not their job to know Corliss planned on tracking to the next building. It's not their job to know what tracking is. I could go on, but I think that's enough. Edit: Also--again "tit for tat" as kelpdiver mentioned. I'd be interested to see if those who support Corliss' $30M lawsuit would support a simliar, non-skydiving related lawsuit.
