Time of night and relative direction (e.g. north/northwest)? Did it have a particular color? I'll pull up Starry Night Pro and see what was in your sky last night. Same here. I had to be honest with myself and throw away every lighter, ashtray, and book of matches in my house. I also removed the pop-in part of the cigarette lighter and the ashtray in my car. Did you sign up for Get Quit? It is only somewhat helpful info-wise, but I found getting the daily encouragement email nice - just a little reminder of why I had decided to quit and what I was hoping to accomplish, along with some tips. It also has a little ticker that tells you how many days you have been quit and how much $$ you've saved not buying cigs. That was an eye-opener for me!! Yeah, a LOT of pennies! I started using a Mac at work a while back, and I just don't understand why I was so anti-Mac in the past. Enjoy your new toy, too! First, CONGRATULATIONS on making the choice to quit!!! I took Chantix last year, as did a friend of mine. It's fantastic - it really does work, and all you have to do is stick to your doses. You'll find that in about 3 or 4 days, you'll start losing your interest in smoking. With the physical cravings taken care of, it is much easier to deal with the mental temptations. If you find the initial course of medication works for you, they make a 'maintenance' pack that runs another 12 weeks. I experienced a moderate amount of nausea for about an hour after taking the pill, but I find eating about 30 minutes beforehand really helped a lot. GOOD LUCK! Stick with it! PM me if you have any other questions

I'm a HUGE NASA nerd, and I go for pretty much every launch. I've got it down to a science. It's an experience not to be missed. But go soon!! After today's (fingers crossed) launch, there are only 11 remaining flights! I also recommend getting tickets to watch the launch on KSC. The $60 price tag for a Launch Transportation package will get you out to the causeway for an unobstructed view from about 5.5 miles away (the closest that non-NASA personnel are allowed). www.ksctickets.com is the source. Be aware that tickets often sell out in less than 1 minute. If you sign up for the Armchair Astronaut newsletter they'll notify you ahead of time when they go on sale. edited to add: C license jumpers can drive over to Titusville after the launch and jump at Skydive Space Center too! You'll be happy with your choice, I'm sure! I'm a recent convert to 'the dark side' - first an iPod, then an iPhone, and now a full system. I can't wait for my new MacBook Pro (2.6 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 200 GB HDD) to get here!!

Pretty much never - I'm in the same boat. I bought a Mac Book Pro last night, and I'll let you in on a little secret: the educational discount. Once you select the piece of hardware you want, it should be a link right under its picture. It knocks a few hundred bucks off the price. Now I am actually a student, so I qualify - but between you, me, and the wall, they don't actually verify that you are a student. I think partly b/c a parent is allowed to buy a computer for their kid, etc. etc. Just click the link and choose a school. So maybe give it a look... it knocked my MBP down $300! edited to add: this is on their website, not sure about over the phone or in stores. I second that! I'm not a skydiver (at least yet!) - I know absolutely nothing about piloting a canopy. But even I watch his landings thinking, "Seriously...?? On national TV...??" Surprise, newbie here with some questions
Shepp replied to calimstng66's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Clayton, I had the same question about time limits for completion. If more than 30 days has passed since your last jump, you have to repeat the last level. I'm not sure if that is a USPA rule, but every DZ I have checked with follows it. If you can pay for the entire AFF course at once, most programs claim you could complete AFF in as little as 5 days (assuming you pass each level on the first jump, and you are at a busy DZ that jumps on weekdays). Also, shop around! Here in Florida, I have seen AFF courses priced as low as $1100 and as high as $1700. It might be worth the money to travel to a DZ that is a bit farther away and make a week/10 day trip out of it (most DZs have a bunkhouse or camping for cheap-as-free). Good luck! If you don't mind paying $3500 for a computer that is only good for surfing the internet/playing with your iTunes, is virtually un-upgradeable, and doesn't play nice with anything MS-centric, Mac sounds like a great match Seriously though, I have used both and my next laptop will likely be a Mac. I'm a software developer, so Im Microsoft-biased; however, Vista has really soured me on the whole Windows thing. That is not to say that Leopard doesn't have its quirks, too. My advice: get your Mac, keep your PC (and clean it up, go back to XP if it's already on Vista). The Mac will be the machine you use the most, but there are some things it just can't do. edit: Like Malcolm said, you could dump the PC altogether and run boot camp or parallels. Check out Apple's site for more info - there are tons of links about 'making the switch' Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterward. The google map for Skydive Space Center's dropzone info page (http://www.dropzone.com/dropzone/Detailed/241.shtml) is of the wrong airport. The airport pictured is Space Coast Regional Airport. Skydive Space Center is located at Arthur Dunn Airpark, about 10 miles further north. Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterward. Accidents don't just happen. I made my first (and thus far, only) jump at Space Center. The people there were so friendly - Jean, Terry, and Jeff really made me feel welcome and at ease. The views from altitude are worth a million bucks - you can very clearly see all of KSC. They also have lift tickets for 18000 AGL for a few extra bucks. I'm planning to head there for AFF in spring - even though it is 5 hours away and I'm 20 minutes from a DZ in Tallahassee. From what I read in Skymama's reply, you may want to call about the license req's though.

Hi Everyone - I checked the SIM for this, but couldn't find it. Is there a time limit for completing AFF? Would individual DZ's have different req's? My work schedule is weird, so it will be next to impossible to take off a bunch of days in a row to do a course full-throttle-start-to-finish. Thanks! DZ Tools JumpRun-Vista Compatibility
Shepp replied to schwinga's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Sean, you could try to run it in XP2 compatibility mode (both during install and run-time). This has worked for me on several other vista-unfriendly apps. Holler if you need help.
