NEVER doubt THE FORCE Ivan's advice has worked for me too. Ya think he knows something King Bill doesn't want him to? I remember those 'runtime errors' and they've also kept me out of the Pub on Wednesday nights. Solving it by downloading "modern" Java solved the problem but I only had a minute to stay. And then there was the blinking monitor syndrome... Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)

Protec with a 'headsock' underneath and ski goggles work fantastic. Fourteen grand in the winter is plain nuts. I'd be much more worried about your hands frezing - I bet you'll find 'winter jumps' are largely hop and pop in variety. Still, check out some former threads (especially BillVon's comments on the 300 way) and you'll find that a visor WILL be a problem. mmm... toast . Burnt or lightly killed? I'm 'that young' too. Nice timing, wot with Hallow'en just around the corner. Haven't sen RHPS for a few years. Time for a refresher. I missed the whole server problem tonight but I caught one a couple weeks ago during the migration ( I was home late from a sports car club function and neeed a fix). Sangiro, in his omnipotence, left a message something like " we're down for about 4 hours... bla bla... and WHY aren't you out doing weekend-type things?' What's your worst ride up to altitude???
dterrick replied to kitof1976's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Picture a C-182 pulling U turn above the target and having the PILOT yell DOOR! First jump of the day, very hot and humid, 4 pretty big guys on the load. I was doing my first A licenced dive - a 2 way with a Coach 2 and I was sitting in jumpmaster seat (bulkhead seat for those 'mericans wondering after that other thread...). Garth gets out and I'm to swing into the crotch position from JM seat except the plane is dancing all over the sky. I'm afraid I'm gonna fall off instead of making the step. We were soooo long, and we were first out. Innocent me, never having been on the edge of a stall IN A PLANE, I thought the pilot was doing this especially for my "first" licensed jump. I called him on this and he said, in his RAF English accent, "Sorry mate, that was, er, about as close to a stall as you can get" Ho ho, ha ha, he he. Wonder what the real thing is like if that was a 'near stall'. -
Fancy new computer - $3500 High speed internet - $50/month Realizing you just burned an hour of your company's time watching badgers on zoomers having rave? Priceless Dave PS it only got me for about 10 minutes. The first five I was evaluating if the lyric was 'badger' or 'magic'. The next five I swore they were coming ever closer. Then I snapped out of the trance and realized that snapping out of the trance WAS the big finale Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)

Update: Today it was a tandem being 'advertised' on a Hansol Flat panel monitor... Maybe this IS a campaign to heighten skydive awareness. We got over 6 inched of snow yesterday and there's more on the way. Jump season is DEFINITELY over for us. Oh well. -Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)

Actually, Clay, the #3 export from North Dakota after Wheat and canola is lamb. ...I'm surprised you didn't know that Dave PS: LMAO... cows and pheasants. Hmmm, wonder what you think of us Manitobans ... we actually BASE jump from snowbanks, being North of North Dakota and all... Older school... Our C-182 is THE original, a 1956 model. OK so maybe the Beech could be older but I betcha it's bigger and faster anyway The plane came from Quebec a few months before that picture was taken. For those reading the French script on the artwork, our local pronounciation was christened "Parachute-is-me" Since purchase, XKU has been a typical jumpship. The first fall it was grounded at the final 100 hour for top end engine work. The next season it had electrical issues and an engine fire during a cold weather start (flooded the air intake). The pilot tells me that 'most of the instruments work most of the time' (shhhh...) and on any given day the door decides to latch either on low or high altitude passes but almost never on both . Trade her for a newer more reliable model? Never. I might want to FLY and land a reliable plane Dave PS: Those 3 layer racing overalls are really bulky and I wore them in part because they were warm (it was cold that October) and because they were warm. I was also a fashion victim at the time. Imagine! ..an orange helmet with a Red jumpsuit - what was I thinking? I've since mended my ways Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)

Ya? Well it's snowing in Winnipeg and the prediction is for up to 4-5 inches. We're closed for the season but for a few winter jumps (for those with severe withdrawal symptoms and no budget for a sun and sky holiday South Stateside). Rrrrgh, winter should NOT be here yet! That close to fininshing AFF? You'll make that drive NEXT weekend ... and the weekend after... and the weekend after, if that's what it takes. It will be worth the wait. Blue Skies PS: you now know the rule about not leaving until either the Beer light is on or the plane is flying and manifest is sold out! ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!!! So last night we change our clocks. Did I ask for White? Noooooooo. #$%#$%$%^$ snow, nearing 2 inches and still falling, blankets everything in the Greater Winnipeg area. As a kid I remember about a 50/50 chance of trick-or-treating wearing winter clothes and this looks like it could be 'one of those years' for the young'ns. Last Saturday it was +26 c (low 80's) and I washed my car wearing only shorts. Today it's -4 (low 20's) and I'm going to fire up my garage heater and tune up my snowblower. I guess I really CAN put my rig away now. . Dave PS: Winter jumps should NOT happen until December IMHO. Our "spring" accuracy meet on April 6 was also done in white conditions. Global warming my ass! Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)

Two hun for anything airworthy is pretty darn cheap colours be damned. The November 1 issue could be your undoing on this one. Maybe the seller will allow you to jump it for a couple weeks and offer you a partial or near complete refund? Something to be wary of at this point: You may return the goods as they were 'not as described' under the basic concepts of law. Rent something else in the mean time. If you use the goods you have 'accepted' them even if they are not as promised. If you enter into any other arrangement (sale back to him, temporary use, etc) you actually have a NEW contract where you are selling to HIM. Good luck and don't forget to factor the (replacement) rental costs into your decision. I'm guessing that you're going to learn to like yellow. I think I would. Dave PS: as an option, consider that a PD 300 is very similar to a Manta or an LR-288 (?) - student canopies found all across the country. Maybe your DZO or someone else close can help you out ... Heya AJ: Lisa' got it right about the over 1:1 issue - I fly old F111 near 1:1 and I feel I'm on the edge. Well over 1:1 under fresh ZP is easy by comparaison. I also have some experience on a Sabre 210 (you've got about 50 lbs on me). You'll find that zippy at that wingloading but much more acceptable than the PD you flew. So long as your DZO likes you on that wingloading, go for it. You'll liklely find the openings similar to the F-111 PD you flew (I've also flown PD 210 and 230's) as there is a family resemblance. Be mindful of your packing and get someone on DZ who knows Sabres to show yout the tricks if you wind up buying it. As your 'first' canopy, it would be a good choice. There are lots opf highe performance canopies out there but starting out on a square Sabre is not shameful. Ignore those who say you should fly "the latest and greatest because... " - there's nothing wrong with the original Sabre. You may get slammed on occasion but careful packing will minimize the occurances to as infrequent as any other canopy. Dave. BEER! Dude, congrats on the gear and take your lumps and learn to pack it. $250 (for 50 packs jobs) is also 10 or more bonus clear and pulls from the top - double bonus 'cause you have 10 more jumps of full flight experience AND you've learned the techniques! Matt (the111) has it right with the 'fold the fat bit first' technique as far as making your life easier. I have a tip on ensuring your slider stays away from Clevland : Make sure you have control over your lines from the get go. Weights in your main tray. Tie the 3 rings together with your pullup cord. Always maintain line tension. Do NOT let your friends hurry you or otherwise distract you from the point where you flatten the pack job until it's got the locking stows, um, locked. When you're bagging the final bit, if the tail roll has loosned just stick your hand in and ensure the slider grommets are against the stops. You really have to f@#% up to actually pull the material inverted or to un-quarter it. It's less important, IMHO, that the tail is tight shut than that the slider is in the correct position. More likely, the grommets have moved an inch or 2 and you just need to re-secure them before you make the locking stows. Once those stows are made, ain't nuttin' gonna move the slider till the wind says so! Also, when you're making that final fold, make sure you have control of the lines (grab the lineset with one hand, use the other hand to stuff the stuff in, use your knees to hold the bag) I've made some pretty ugly and messy pack jobs on new ZP loaners observing the above techniques and there seems to be no problem with a messy pack job as long as those basics are covered. That is: - the slider is right against the stops before you do the locking stows - you've done a 'decent' job of the pleating and arranging of the C D, and steering lines - you've maintained line tension during the pack job ("my" secret) -Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)

Well Matt, packing a mal on your BEER jump would save you a case of beer for having first jump on BEER rig and first chop on the same jump. Of course, you'd still have a bottle for your rigger and a repack to contend with, and with a sweet loking rig like that I'd go mad waiting to have it repacked. Have fun in the blue skies Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)

Good goin' Joe, you did well! Nice heads up on getting back into into the 'wind cone' before chopping - you used your spare time well. I hope that the missing gear shows up for you. I'm sure the DZO does too. This one doesn;t sound at all like your fault. I'm somewhat confused about your description about where the slack steering line was stowed. Was it actually looped UPWARDS and into the riser where the rapide links hook to the risers? Did the gear have steel links or Slinks? The reason I ask is becasue this could be a good confirmation post for the gear and rigging/safety page. This problem has come up before with slinks. Let us know if you would, please. Once again, good decision, nice job on 'sport reserve accuracy' totop it all off Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)

Work with me here for a minute... Today's morning newspaper has the normal amount of trashy colour ads for the electronics shops, and chain stores. they all pretty much sell TV's and of course they never show just a blank screen, do they? So what on every one of those TV's ...? Future shop: dude in a black RW suit in a flat track. Strange considering he is shown about 50 feet below a twin otter. Larger TV's also show two others freeflying dive exists. The Brick (Furniture): 1/2 page ad on the front page of section 2. 47 inch Panasonic projection TV for $1998. 10 way star... could be the GK's (identical white RW suits with black containers and multicoloured reserve flaps) Best Buy (and my university's "Job Postings" cover): The now famous purple freefliers picture that gets used "everywhere" *** So whassup? Is it the same where you live or are the stoic and boring Canadian media simply getting adventurous? Considering the active jumping population in Canada is only a couple thousand, I don't think it is our incredible market presence, so vote already... -Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
