  1. When i first started jumping i couldnt get over how loud it was......now i cant even remember the last time i noticed the noise. But thats probably because im concentrating hard not to get killed by the loons i jump with
  2. Ive got a Silhouette and it is awesome. Nice strong flare and you can really throw it about the sky. Im looking to downsize from a 210 to a 190 and was considering going for a Sabre 2 but may just stick with another Silhouette. Mines got about 500 jumps on it so im guessing that a brand new one would be even more fun
  3. I took my braces off with a pair of pliers and a screwdriver when i was 16, the only difficult part is the bands on the very back teeth. They're still straight but they were covered in cement/glue for years
  4. If i recall correctly Photons only have zero rest mass. You and everything else in the universe increases in mass as you increase velocity, up to infinite mass at the speed of light. Gravity does affect photons too, or at least it bends space time so that they follow a straight path through curved space. Black holes can evaporate because beyond the event horizon there is still a possibility that a particle can escape the black holes gravity. When a particle and an anti particle come into existence they usually anhilliate each other immediately but should they come into existance either side of the event horizon, one will be pulled into the singularity but the other can escape the black hole. The one that escapes is seen as hawking radiation. I think thats right but i may not be 100%
  5. Im sure i read somewhere on here yesterday that you can buy blocks of 50 at Lodi for 13$ a jump. If thats true i know where id be spending 3 months
  6. because apparently some of them keep firing when they shouldnt
  7. There was an incident in the uk on a tandem jump where the drogue got caught around the TI's neck making them unconscious. The camguy - Ronnie O'Brian - rescued them in mid air. The TI woke up under canopy....the passenger thought it was all part of the jump
  8. When i was on AFF i used to look up at cloudy skies with joy knowing i wasnt going to have to get in that plane again let alone jump out......On AFF1 the walk to the plane felt like the walk to my own death. How things change
  9. This is from another board..... All the ops manual has is that jumpers must have a B licence, balloon pilots need 60 hrs PIC of a balloon and a brief from a CSI who has at least 1 balloon jump or a balloon pilot who has dropped people before. And thats it. Hope it helps.
  10. I bought the container and it looks awesome.
  11. Hi, im looking at buying a Jav Odyssey J4K container. Manufacturers website says it will take up to a 190 ZP canopy. Do you think ill be able to get a Silhouette 210 in there ? They're hybrid so im guessing the pack volume will be smaller. Appreciate any help/advice you can give.
  12. I was thinking about something similar the other day. Rather than body armour i had a thought of a kind of air bag jump suit. If you're fucked and you have no chance of landing under a safe canopy you fire the suit and you're encased in air bags.....similar to how the mars rovers landed. Its still gonna hurt but at least your chances of living are increased. Im a total noob to this sport so im sure there are excellent reasons not to do this (ie accidentally firing in the plane !!) but its an interesting thought.
  13. I dont think there is any denying it. To go from being a non jumper to jumping solo after as little as 8 jumps is by anyones standards a steep learning curve, whether they fly through it or not!!
  14. Lots of people forget what to do on their first jump, be it tandem or AFF. So much is going on and so fast that your senses just get overloaded by it all. Your jumping out of a plane 13000ft in the air.....dont beat yourself up about forgetting stuff on your first time......you jumped, you lived and thats all that really matters. You probably were scared but had so much adrenaline pumping through your veins you just didnt realise. On my AFF Level 1 i was convinced that id only been in freefall for about 4 or 5 seconds but when i saw the video id been in freefall for about 45 seconds. I was getting "LEGS" signals virtually all the way down but it just wasnt registering in my head. The cameraman was only 10 foot in front of me but i dont recall seeing him at anytime on the way down. AFF is a huge learning curve (and lots of fun) but your brain/body is suprisingly fast learning when your life is on the line. Levels 2 & 3 which i did the weekend after were immense. I was totally switched on and aware of everything that was going on.....if i thought level 1 was fun, these two levels were something else. The later levels just get better and build your confidence hugely. IMHO any tandems after your first one are waste of cash if you want to take skydiving up as a hobby. If anything get some time in a wind tunnel as it will help massively with the later levels and give you a taste of what its really like to freefall on your own.
