Because that was the bargain up-front. From the OP: By changing the bargain unilaterally, the US is welching on the deal. By comparison, if the US govt was a private party and tried to unilaterally do that, it would get sued for breach of contract. Frankly, the only reason why veterans can't sue the US govt now for pulling this shit is because "sovereign immunity" shields the US govt from being sued for that kind of thing. Thankyou Andy...seriously Sometimes I wonder why our armed forces don't mutiny... ...but happy vets day anyway.....makes me sick! has anybody ever seen a vet sleep with there eyes open...literally.
