"The 'frankness' of people sunk below shame is a very cheap frankness." -Lewis Your secrets are the true reflection of who you really are...

Amusing, but the overall message is loud and clear. Prerequisite for becoming a believer in atheism, self-righteousness, consuming anger, depressed disillusioned view of reality devoid of hope. An unshakable belief that hedonism is the answer. Total ignorance of Gods Word as it pertains to our daily existence, or to anything for that matter. WOW, sign me up. ... +1 Your secrets are the true reflection of who you really are...

In AA I believe it used to mean God, but now I think that changed to where it could also be a rock or a pile of dung. Yeah, that's more of where I was going with this. Surrendering yourself to god. So whats the general idea here? Well, if you want AA's watered down version you'll have to go to a meeting or read the book...but Winsor gave the jist of it. However, from a biblical stance it's surrendering our depraved physical will to that of God's perfect spiritual will found in scripture. A spiritual life is one that can overcome the physical, including death as Christ did. All humans can overcome physical addictions however they want, as Winsor said, whatever works...but this is different from santification where the desire is for an eternal spiritual relationship with God...recovery from physical ailments tends to be secondary. A commitment to biblical study over time and practical aplication will help to further understand the concept. Your secrets are the true reflection of who you really are...

You don't seem to have the same disdain for all the athiests and the religious threads they start. It's very seldom you see Jay, Ron, Max, myself or any other person of faith start a religios thread...we don't need to... ...then they complain we shove our beliefs down their throat. The concept of good and evil seems to be somewhat subjective and, to the carnal mind, rather difficult to impart. I think a more practical measure to convey the idea would be to contrast the variance between pide and humility...tho I'll admit even the subtlties of pride seem to elude us at times. I suppose the most obvious of these (at least to others) would be the self-recognition/glorification of ones own humility...or...the sense of conceit from an exorbitant soliloquy of inordinate and pretentious words in received pronunciation. Agnostics, why don't you choose to (dis)believe?

Ya, because hate and the desire to retaliate has proven otherwise... If someone uses aggression against you, proportionate self-defence isn't unethical. According to Jesus, you should not defend yourself. And what would you consider proprtionate self defence against already having been slapped? I don't see being slapped as a grave life threatening situation that demands self defence. You can retaliate and escalate a rather harmless but negative situation or you can turn the other cheek and in doing so you effectively show they have no power and expose the triviality of the situation... whether they slap you, insult you, steal from you or whatever, you exhibit your detachment from these material possesions and pride to the extent that it wouldn't cause you to act irrationally and escalate a rather unfortunate senario into something more extreme....possibly even life threatening. Sometimes I wonder if the whole turn the other cheek reference was not just a metaphor to describe the mentality one should have of belonging to something more powerful and greater than oneself, where these trivial things that seem so important for carnal man to defend, are simply of no import. Do you now see how important it is for christians to delve into scripture and search for the menning and truth behind a selected portion of scripture with a gentle spirit and postive prespective, rather than the shallow negative one you seem to have portrayed? This was just one of many ways in which that truth Christ has taught can be applied to a pratical situation...there are even more trivial examples and even more extreme ones. I chose to apply this truth during the most challenging time in my life and have been blessed beyond comprehension... Your secrets are the true reflection of who you really are... -
Ya...I guess I can't say I've heard an argument that was more convincing than the experience. I suppose I prefer it that way...I don't know if I would've been comfortable needing someone to convice me of something and taking their word for it. Ya, because hate and the desire to retaliate has proven otherwise... It's hard to believe you were ever a christian who ever actually committed to study and practical aplication. I suppose it was insane for me to give you that practical life advice for which you went out of the way to thank me for how it helped you, eh? I mean, why should I care after your bitter mocking, right? Your secrets are the true reflection of who you really are... -

Quoting C.S. Lewis isn't going to get you very far in the conversation. It's about as effective as quoting J.K. Rowling or L. Ron Hubbard. Or quoting the Bible for that matter? These are just things that I've been thinking and reading lately...I find them interesting and relevant. I suppose others will to... Have a nice day... Sometimes I wonder if dark matter is some type of small physical aspect of the Spirit of God...It's invisible, omnipresent...maybe even omnipotent? Omniscient? I suppose if it was, science would never be able to know it as God, that is unless the dark matter started speaking to the scientists...even then, most people would probably just consider them a bunch of desperate scientist that spent too much time down that rabbit hole in Minnesota and have simply gone mad... “If the whole universe has no meaning, we should never have found out that it has no meaning: just as, if there were no light in the universe and therefore no creatures with eyes, we should never know it was dark. Dark would be without meaning.” -C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity Your secrets are the true reflection of who you really are... -

Christians - how do you rationalise your belief?
Coreece replied to nigel99's topic in Speakers Corner
You don't know that...Maybe this nice little old lady is able to recognize her limitations when the time comes. Perhaps if she were in a full spin out and tried to "handle the situation" beyound her ability to control it in the proper manner, she'd jump the curb and kill you... All I can really do is pray that you recognize your limitations and come to the realization that you're not invincible and taste the sweet nectar of humility and the grace of God that abounds once cultivated...until then, your vain attempts to understand spirituality by reckoning your misconceptions with other's misconceptions will only continue to backwash an innacurate appraisal of Christianity. A fine example of religous "logic". I'm not saying that I agree with the little old lady, I was just providing an example to illustrate that he cannot predict the outcome of such an abrupt situation where people instictively react on impulse anyway. And who knows, maybe the little old lady could've been talking about an uncontrollable situation where it wouldn't have mattered what you did if there was even anything that could be done in the first place. Besides this idea of letting go and letting God in this context is not even biblical nor taught anywhere in scripture. There is no reference to Jesus being your own personal utilitarian jeanie and certainly no reference to him ever being your chauffeur. Lurch basically took this misconception, mixed it with his own and added to the list of christian scarecrows...that was my point, not to advocate a new wave of ghost riding. Yes, apparently even you can be taken in by fantasy and the illusions of the imagination....but I'm just curious about how you plan to "coax them closer to reality" when they're unable to relate to your strawman arguments? Sounds more like an excercise in futility to me... Constantly berating someone about their obesity and chain smoking in an attempt to coax them back to health is rather useless if they're not obese, don't smoke and are in fact already healthy...people may start questioning your ability to preceive reality and start coaxing you back with medication. Funny dude, I actually did put it up to remind me who I am and to stop swearing so much in here...you're pretty sharp. Thirty was so strange for me. Ya, because when all the religious people are all gone, God knows that all the Stalins, and all the Jim Joneses, and all the Mussolinies, and all Ze Dongs and all the Alfred Kinseys and all the Tamil Tigers of the world will just live happily ever after.... Well, not everyone is good at the association game. My name is rather closely related with the concept "sea".....
