  1. Hi Dave, Do you still use your neptune as an audible? I was thinking of getting one specifically for audible use. However, I've just spent hours searching old threads and it seems that nobody uses them as audibles but visuals instead. Since it's now been awhile, I wondered if you still did this and how it is working out. Or would you have a different suggestion?
  2. Although the guy sounds like a PA removed by slotperfect, you can't not pay him. If he's owed $300, pay up and be done with it. Protect your name and I doubt this will have any effect on future dealings.
  3. Good point. But I bed alot more accident victims of motorcycle riding carry insurance to cover their hospital bills. But I get the gist of your argument.
  4. Without hearing maybe other relevant details, I'm surprised the bartender did time. Sounds like your brother chose to drink the shots.
  5. No, I haven't tried it. But according to your previous post, you don't do drugs either. So, which is it??
  6. Good point. However the majority of people who wind up in the ICU do not have medical coverage. Then it is the hospital who eats the cost of thousands of dollars. This effects everybody.
  7. ??? I don't understand. Explain further please?? (Sorry, I'm a bit slow at times!)
  8. Visit any ICU and see the effects cocaine has and I bet you change your mind. So, you think alcohol should be illegal, or do the effects of drunk driving not bother you at the same ICU? Just because one may choose to drink alcohol does NOT mean they will choose to drive. However, if one chooses to do cocaine, even the smallest amount, they choose to run the risk of hemorrhage.

  10. That's brilliant!! Totally what I'm asking for if I ever get married!!!

Holy crap! You sound like a horror pt!!!! A little high maintenance??? None of your complaints sounds like it would have interfered with your care or safety.

    Whats up?

Wow, I think you must have been at the hospital I work at! I work at a huge luxurious hospital in the suburbs. The public seems to think it is so great because of how nice and fancy it is. However, flat screens and granite counter tops don't mean shit when the nursing staff is below the minimum and you have to wait an hour for a Tylenol. While our hospital does provide excellent and comprehensive medical care, the actual in patient stay sucks. In the last couple of years we have laid off more nurses than I care to think about. I would have been on the chopping block as well had I not changed positions a few years back. All of the secretaries were let go and NA's were cut back as well. So this means that nurses have had a huge increase in their daily responsibilities yet the pts expect to recieve the same care. Though mnealtx is right in some aspects of where the money comes from, the hospital seems to think that a fancy manicured lawn and rooms that resemble a hotel will wooo a pt and make them forget that their discharge has been held up by 4 hours because the nurse had to answer phones while doing cpr and listening to 7 call lights not being responded too. Even though I know some of these fancy items are donated and others are generated through other areas of revenue, as an employee it is frustrating to see. Despite the increase in matrix and responsibilities we haven't received a raise in 3 years and our health care costs have raised quite a bit. (Everybody is facing this same problem) But then to see the fancy and frivolous items that are not necessary for pt care or safety is tiresome. Another hospital I moonlight at closer to the city, is dirt poor, old and dingy, and always running low on supplies. However the nursing staff never work short and I feel their pts are taken care of better. (Not from a medical perspective but from a nursing standpoint.)
  13. QuoteI now only land the Sabre2 downwind. Does that mean that you get out low or do high pulls on every single jump?? That seems much more boring than landing a slow canopy.
  14. This is not unique. This is how most people die. (From long term illness.) Most people don't realize how disturbing death can look at the very end. Lung cancer and Leukemia being the worst. And almost all family members feel the same way you do. I would venture to guess that out of the hundereds of dying pts I've taken care of, about 10% of family members have hinted it would be ok if I just increased the morphine drip. And 3 specifically I remember just downright asked me. To the OP, I have seen the worst of the worst. Things you can't imagine and wouldn't wish upon your worst enemy. And even though I have the means, no way would I help in that.
  15. Wrong. I can fall much faster with my jumpsuit than without it. And I have no trouble keeping up with the boys when I need to! But take away my jumpsuit and I'm struggling the entire time.
  16. And even if the woman should have been taken to the hospital due to suicidal thoughts, excessive force was used. The advent of tasers was to protect the police officer without using lethal force. It was not designed to be used as a compliance method. Even if this woman was being resistant, I highly doubt she was able to overcome the officers and their advance training.

    Just for Shah

Wow, that's just rude. Even though many of Shah's posts are offending (not to me; I think he is funny and have no problem with what he wants in a woman) and generalizing, at least he doesn't single out one person specifically.
  18. I didn't say power, I said ability.*** Sheesh... here I am arguing semantics on dz.com between loads. I gotta stop logging in!
  19. Unfortunately, yes, a police officer does have that power. However, in my previous post, I stated that there are strict laws in place to hold a person there and actually deem them incompetent. (I attended several of these hearings when I was doing research for my MSN.) But a police officer also has to have good reason for doing so and in this article they did not.
  20. A text message does not make a woman suicidal. There has to be more than just what the article says. That's why I said seems. The woman apparently only became combative after they tried to take her to the hospital. She stated she was fearful for her employment status. (My employment would certainly be affected if I just didn't show up. Especially because I was in the hospital. So that point is valid.) A police officer does have the right to take a person to the hospital. After a short time, I believe less than 72 hours, the case must go before a magistrate. Then very specific criteria take place to deem that person incompetent. The point is, a police officer would never try to commit a person over a text message. That does not deem her suicidal. If the officers had not provoked her and respected her right not to go to the hospital, she likely would not have found herself in the situation where she needed to struggle and be tased. And btw, EMT's are NOT squeamish. they have seen it all. There is a reason that this one stood up to defend this woman. I agree that the lack of info in the article makes it hard to say what was right. I agree with what you said for the most part, if the woman infact had been suicidal. But there was nothing in the article that led me to believe she was.
  21. When you're declared incompetent, or even just put on a temporary hold for evaluation, your rights don't actually apply to you, because you've been deemed incapable of using them.*** Exactly. Which is why there needs to be substantial evidence before declaring incompetency.
  22. Not enough information to go on, but it sounds ridiculous that they involuntarily committed this woman over text messages. She opted not to go in the beginning and it should have been left at that. She is an adult and makes her own decisions. There needs to be much more evidence than a worried boyfriend to involuntarily commit somebody. Just because she may have been prescribed meds doesn't mean she had an actual psych diagnosis. Doctors are way too quick too over medicate with psych issues. (She also could have been a nut job, the article is not very clear.) Sounds like another story of excessive police force.
  23. My parents have a blue and gold that they bought as an egg as well (He's now 20 or so I'm guessing). I remember that he went throught a nippy stage as well when he was a baby. I also believe that in some states, you have to have somebody to will the bird to just to buy an egg, as they will most likely outlive you. You're pics are just gorgeous! I am a huge fan of birds but know that I can not take care of one. I'll stick to my lazy cats!
  24. I've never been into movie stars and don't keep up with who is who in hollywood, but I've always liked him. He is HOT.
  25. Everything she said! And congrats for sticking with RW for awhile. It's much more rewarding than alot of new people give it credit these days. Stick with it and you will love it!
