Holes in a reserve - to patch or not to patch?
likestojump replied to hackish's topic in Gear and Rigging
So far I have not had any issues with unexplained holes in my reserves. Since I buy new gear and I watch each and every repack (working on my rigger ticket) I think my reserves will last quite a few years. you do know that WATCHING each and every repack does not count ? :) -
Pssst...that 1500 British pounds (a little over $2900 American at this mornings rates.) Thanks, I know what GBP conversion is :) I cannot recall this particular one - but many identical scams had ridiculously low prices. (most i remember are between 1500 and 2500 USD) Let's see... Mirage G4, Sabre2, PDR, Cypres2 0 if somebody tried to sell all this premium gear for fraction of the cost - how would you feel ? BTW, I to have had people use WU to pay me, it was not an issue. Keep in mind, WU has 3 levels of security - and the lowest level you do not need to show an ID - just need to know the passphrase. The levels are determined by the amount withdrawn.

ahhh... WRONG. as per their agreement http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/gen/terms-outside Netherland users can be VERIFIED I bet you mean you cannot be CONFIRMED. I believe only USA/Canada/UK can have confirmed addresses http://reviews.ebay.com/What-apos-s-Up-with-Paypal-Confirmed-Address_W0QQugidZ10000000004621608

I couldn't find anything in that article or the maintenance article concerning getting charged for 2 servicing fees. It only confirms that if you get the 1st check done late, it doesn't change the schedule for the 2nd check. The articles don't specifically address the issue of returning a unit at the 2nd check timing that had never had the 1st check. I am just guessing, but as long as you are within +-3month you will only pay for that service - i.e. if you are sending a 7yar10month cypres1 without a 4 year check I am pretty sure you will only pay the $160 for the 8 year check. however if yo udecide to send a non-year-ed 7 year old cypres - you will shell out 160 now, and another 160 within 9to 15 months...

well, aside from the fact that THAT particular rigs belongs to a guy in MASS - anybody who thinks that anybody would sell you a $4000 piece of gear for 1500 needs a reality check. I am not trying to victimize the victim - but CMON - a deal that is too good to be true - is TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. I bet it's a standard "I am traveling right now, but if you WU me the money, I will cover the cost of Fedex Priority International to ya" - sure, don't be THAT gullible. PEOPLE - USE COMMON SENSE WHEN PURCHASING - Just getting the seller on the phone will eliminate over 90% of the scammers. Email is too easy to fake, and freemail accounts galore - so if you want extra protection - use paypal, escrow, etc - BUT GET THEM ON THE PHONE. It's hard to talk knowledgeable about skydiving gear if you are not a skydiver. I keep reporting these ads as scams - but it always takes FOREVER to get them removed. Remember - it's better to not make $$$, than to loose $$$. And just one thing that pissed me off in this thread - I bet over 50% people use free email like gmail, yahoo, aol, etc - please don't think that they are all scammers :) I use gmail and I have sold and bought tons of gear, and I am just betting that there isn't a single person who can call me a scammer. I think the Javelin method looks alot nicer. I have packed both ways and also think that having both flaps over the PC leaves more room for the fabric under the bottom flap - and less bunched up fabric = good in my book.

What is this tool? Is it even for rigging?
likestojump replied to TowerTopper's topic in Gear and Rigging
Looks like a line hook. Just a guess though -
blah blah. you are too small of a sample size. UPS is a worldwide recognized company. Worlds largest. 15mln packages a day. Fedex, UPS, Post office... They all make mistakes. If you cannot afford a mistake to be made- do it yourself. NOBODY IS PERFECT. QUIT BITCHING. I use any carrier a customer wants me to. Every single one has fucked up at one time or another.

I watched my very first save from the air too. It was ME :) Does that count, or does it have to be a paying customer ?

from the horses mouth : http://www.sunpath.com/sizchart-harness.htm on a sidenote - 3 years ? 400 jumps ? don't know what MLW is ???? cmon....

the charts I have : 566cu in with Spectra lines V4.5 450-550 - so it should fit. if you have the older style split velcro bag I recommend you sew the velcro shut. BSBD

Good argument for throw out reserves (or better yet a pull out reserve).

hey, would you rather be ignorant of your cars mechanical needs and just do oil changes every 3K miles just to have it crap out at 100K or be willing to pay a little more to a mechanic to check it out and do the preventative maintenance ? this is quite similar. SSK taking their time to figure out what's going on and how to recalibrate the Cypres2 - IS A GOOD THING. Keep in mind the Cypres2 came out March 2003 and with the first service due +-6 months us, lazy skydivers are just now starting to swamp SSK with the units. Diagnostics take time. At least Cypres2's don't issue constant safety bulletins, and cutter replacements. How many years did it take Vigil to come out with Vigil II ??? The original Cypres is STILL 100% airworthy, and had a 12 year production run..... think

i have a slider stamped with Precision inspection (1098) and has the PN 4874HQB I already have a call into precision, but wondering if anybody else has an idea what it's for. My guess a Super Raven III tnx for your help.

yes they pack differently yes they are meant to open differntly. more than anything else the short(ish) answer is : don't worry about BASE until you have a few hundred skydves. BASE rigs are not TSOd - thus cannot be jumped from airplanes. A BASEr system by Sonic of The Ranch can be skydived with but is NOT suitable to beginners, nor is really an every-day skydiving rig. this is like worrying about getting a hi-performance sports car before you even get a drivers license - skydive some, and you will understand most of your answers. Thank you for the offer, and thanks everyone for the input. Honestly judging from the research I did, I think it's worth a fair amount. I guess it will end up on eBay after Christmas. Serial number 9 :) Merry Christmas all ! (and happy Kwanzaa)

Ive heard them sell for as low as $25.00 But if its airworthy as you say, maybe drop me a PM. I would be interested in adding it to my collection if you are wanting to part with it. thanks J $25, eh ?

if you move out to the place with a lot of sun (AZ S.Cal ,etc) - you will hate the sizzling, faded canopy. Overall it's also not the greatest for resale value...

considering another tandem jump

Oh really Clinton ? In my opinion Paypal is the best thing that happened since sliced bread. If you are an idiot and don't check what you buy - then you will much easier get scammed by using western union or money orders. With paypal you have a recourse, with WU/Moneygram/Money orders you have none or alot less. For the record I have over 20,000 successful paypal transactions, how about you and your blunt biased statement ? Seriously people, paypal may cost money to use - but it's a SERVICE - you don't want to work for free, and neither do they. Don' hate them cuz they have a great concept. -
yes. and that's not necessary a "modification" rather a software upgrade. pretty cool feature.

I have sold my share of used gear, and it's very simple - if you have the right colors and fit - you are more likely to sell it for more. a 95 Triathlon with rainbow colors and low jumps just doesn't get the same value as a 500 jump blue Spectre of the same vintage. Like Gary pointed out - if there's a shortage on the market - the used gear will go up. a Sabre2 is a very demandable canopy, and nobody wants to pay the $2K retail tag on it - and since there isn't that many on the market used - the ones that do get sold 2nd hand, go for more then say Stilettos that there's a holy crapload of. Simple logic, really :) Economics 1010 :)

at $5500. Think I can get it for less? Remember one thing : GOOD DEAL IS A STATE OF MIND. If you are happy with paying $5500 - then it's a good deal. But in my mind that's on the high side.
