  1. OK, Rush released a CD called "Feedback" a few years ago. It's an album of covers--the songs they did when they were a fresh new band finding their own sound. My favorite from that CD is "The Seeker," a song by The Who. Which one do you like better? The Who's version. The original is still the best (I have to admit it, they do an awesome job...but then, it's their own song!) Rush's version. I love what they did with it (Several versions are up on YouTube - this one is in Frankfurt, Germany!) Me, I prefer the Rush version. I love them, but I was never a huge Who fan. 2. How funny! I picked "If You Could Only See"... I'm having fun doing these threads. I get to enjoy the music and also see what other people like (of what I like). Anyone mind more of them?
  3. I was very torn among all three, but "The World I Know" won out. It's a song that has lifted me up so many times. I LOVE the video from "Adrenaline Rush" that they put "When You're Falling" to... but Collective Soul is a long-time favorite... Glad you like the songs!
  4. Here's a hand to help you decide: Rusted Root - "Ecstasy" Afro Celt Sound System - "When You're Falling" Collective Soul - "The World I Know" Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
  5. Here, I'll help you decide: Seven Mary Three - "Cumbersome" [url "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l44FI9Pzqxg"]Tonic - "If You Could Only See" Kenny Wayne Shepherd - "Blue On Black" Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
  6. Can we use this thread to correct sig lines, too? 'Cause that'll be sweet... Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire

  9. DeNiro has a place in Gardiner, NY, near The RAnch. I jumped twice in Duaneseburg, but that's up near Albany. Is Gardiner anywhere near Binghamton? I think she was from Binghamton or something originally. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire

  11. Didn't I say something earlier that language should be constructed "mathematically"? You wouldn't get two different answers if you handed a coherent math problem to two different mathematicians (provided they are both competent). We should not have words that mean opposite things; We should not have verb conjugations that do not derive from a formula that can be applied across them all; We should not have silent letters; We should not have six different letter combinations that make the same sound; We should be able to make plurals the same way for all words... These are just a few of what would probably be many stipulations I would make if I were designing a language. The big problem is that languages don't get designed; they just happen. So we get stuck with what we get. Does Esperanto qualify so far (based on my criteria)? Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
  12. It is a very funny movie (so is "Shaun of the Dead" -- same stars). But that Flash game on the site you linked to SUCKS. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
  13. Then you are welcome here, as far as I am concerned. Some would criticize you, saying that if you didn't like your country you should have stayed and, I dunno, "worked for change." Yeah, right. Others, like me, would say that a smart man can look around him and see when the critical mass of morons has been reached and there is really no hope for the smart people to wrest back control and get things fixed. I think that the U.K. is going to have to go through a bitter, agonizing, severe decline before sense returns to the folks there, on the whole. In the meantime, send the freedom-loving ones here, where there is at least still hope. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
  14. What other nation recently changed to a total ban, not to mention was the basis for much of our government and system of law? There's no better example out there than England, however much the two have diverged in 2 centuries. Plus, if what SFC is true and you can't compare the U.S. with the U.K., then there really is nowhere you can compare with the U.S., and so anyone who says to us that other countries have gun bans so we should too, should STFU! You can't say that we can't compare the two countries when it makes gun bans look idiotic, and then say that the countries are similar enough that we ought to try out the gun bans they've been attempting. 15. I just would have thought that with an obviously hostile crowd behind him, he'd have wanted to edge back to the car with his EYES ON WHAT THEY WERE DOING. He could've been jumped again, been hit in the back of the head with a brick, who knows? I'll pass on that. I'd likely just get disgusted by the throngs of people who are there to "protest" for no other reason than to have fun, get caught up in the moment, "be where it's at," randomly oppose something... 16. What would you do in that situation? I think the cop did the right thing, given the situation he was in. Blues, Dave The cop has his BACK TURNED to the aggressors as he walks away. That, to me, doesn't seem tactically wise. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
  17. So, you're saying we should ditch English altogether in favor of Esperanto? Last time I checked, almost no-one understood Esperanto. I don't know the first word in Esperanto, but I have heard of it and it sounds like a decent idea poorly executed. Strangely, I was driving on the highway a few months ago and saw a car with a bumper sticker that invited people to find out more about Esperanto. 18. People who bemoan the divisions between people that keep us from relating peacefully should abhor the "changes" in language that occur and end up underscoring the divisions between us and our cultures. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire

  20. I am wholly unqualified to guess at the sociopolitical motivation for that decision. Could be something like you said, or it could be as simple as they really think it will create a better, more educated class of graduates. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire

  22. I'm feeding the perception that some people have developed that I am just an unremitting, unrepentant bigot. It's not a "troll," because I don't troll. I'm not here to screw with people or be a nuisance. You might be able to tell that based on how "at length" I go into detail about my views; I'm here to get into the nitty gritty details of why we feel the way we do about stuff, and arrive at understandings. This thread was more or less a joke, yes. Heh, the money "owed them." That's a good one. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire

  24. So you support the idea of a guy carrying a weapon loaded almost anywhere (CHL)....But are afraid of a guy carrying a loaded weapon from his car to a firing line????? You do understand that a gun in a holster is not considered to be being handled right? I think that the difference is that a gun carried concealed is left there, no one is fiddling with it and the trigger is not in danger of being pulled. That's not the case with a gun taken from the car to the firing line. There are loads of instances of people having (unsheathed, uncased) guns going off as they are taken out of a car trunk, etc. A holstered gun is regarded as safe, because most guns will NOT FIRE if they are left alone in a holster and the trigger does not get actuated. 25. I'm confused, here. ANY president takes office, and there exists the possibility that the vice president could end up as president, "unelected" as you said. Why would it be any different if Obama won and then died and Biden became president, "unelected by the people?" (Perhaps his name is fitting: he'd be "biden" his time as VP until some angry white supremacist took out Obama?) Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
