SkyVenture Colorado will host a tunnel competition January 24th and 25th 2009. We will post full details including events and costs by November 1st, so put it on your calendars! It may be cold in Colorado in January but the tunnel is warm and the skiing is also great! -

At the Guantlett there was a lot of talk about putting together a "tunnel circuit" so that each of the tunnels, or at least 3 or 4 of the tunnels would host a competition once a year. The Guantlett was so much fun that there seemed to be a lot of interest in this. Even the 12 foot tunnels could have quite a few different events, artistic routines, 2 way VRW, etc. I am just curious what people would think of this and how many might attend an event like this in a smaller tunnel. It seemed like the Orlando competition was also very successful in September. We are thinking of doing one in Colorado at the end of January and trying to get an idea of the participation level. Based on feedback from teams at the Guantlet, it would be potentially very successful to do this on a regular basis. I am just curious who out there would be interested in participating in something like this? Also, what type of feedback would people have for the types of events to have in a 12 foot tunnel other than 2 way vrw and artistic routines.

Thanks Arizona for such an awesome event. We had a great time last year and an even better time this year. A ton of organizing went into this event and it was very well done. Thanks to Amy and Jason for all of your hard work, you did a fantastic job with everything!

tunnelmom replied to tunnelmom's topic in Wind Tunnels
Just wanted to share this video. Mike Silva is the jumprope, Dan and Josh are the "turners" and Kayla and Justin are the "jumpers".... It was a lot of fun! -
Thanks Amy for organizing this event! Team Future is very excited about it! We know how much work something like this can be and we just wanted to let you know how much we appreciate it!

Team Future and the Tinucci family is excited to announce the first annual fundraiser "Points for Diabetes". We are looking for teams (all disciplines and all abilities welcome) across the nation who are interested in participating in this exciting fund raiser to support research for Diabetes. All proceeds will go to the Children's Diabetes Foundation which raises funds to support research for childhood diabetes. Each participating team will receive a minimum of 10 minutes of free tunnel time, depending upon the number of participants at each location. Space is limited, so sign up early! Each individual team member will be asked to obtain sponsors based on how many "points" their team can turn at the event in a set period of time. The event will be held the weekend of September 5th, exact times to be determined depending on team availability. Join us to help raise funds for this great cause. Participating tunnels include SkyVenture Colorado, IFly SF Bay, and IFly Hollywood. Other tunnels may also be participating, so if your home tunnel is not listed here, please pmb me for additional details. This event will be a lot of fun and will also include prizes for the teams who raise the most money. If you are unable to participate but would like to sponsor a team or provide prizes, please contact me via pmb.

Kayla and Justin keep talking about their dream tunnel which woudl be located in the center of their dream house. The tunnel would have entrances and exits at every floor of the house so that when their parents tell them its time for bed they would just fly right up to their rooms..... And of course could be used at any time during the day for fun and play!

Right now I think they each have about 140 hours of tunnel time, this is largely due to a very generous community and some fantastic support from several tunnels such as SkyVenture Colorado, IFly San Francisco, and I Fly Hollywood as well as the skydiving community and companies like Bev Suits, Freak'n Suits, Go Fast and Bonehead composites. The kids really appreciate everything everyone in the sport has done to help and sponsor them! They would never be where they are today if it hadn't been for all of the support they have been so fortunate to receive. They also are very lucky to be working with awesome coaches. Dan Perry is an amazing freefly coach and Rusty Lewis has really been helping them to improve in their 4 way FS skills. Ok, now I realize this sounds sappy and I don't mean for it to sound that way -- but we really do appreciate everyone who has helped the kids get to where they are today.

Hey Dave-- The kids got out at the same time it was kind of a "team thing"..... As a parent, I am so glad it was that way, don't know if we woudl have done the attempt otherwise! I definitely think they could go for longer--- once someone challenges the record I am sure they will want to give it another try! Anytime you are around in the US we'd love to fly again with you and crash on the mats -- you know Justin is up for that ANY time... Hope you are recovering from jet lag! TTYL...

Hi Everyone-- In order for the record to be official everything must be documented, recorded, and meet with very specific Guinness guidelines. There are specific requirements like not touching the walls or net. You also need to apply to Guinness and have your application accepted, they then send you all of the specific requirements and documentation procedures. The official time yesterday was one hour thirty six minutes and six seconds.... The kids want to remain the record holders but are always open to a challenger any day! Footage of the record setting event can be found on the Good Morning America website, they were there and the story aired this morning. Here is the link to the footage from Good Morning America this morning. Sorry I don't know what to do to make it "clicky" http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Springtime/story?id=4903476&page=1

I think a routine would have looked nice as well. They would have come up with something but we were told that the format of the wind tunnel segment was going to involve Ellen holding up cue cards with names of moves like eagles, rodeo, body surfing etc.. The kids went into it thinking that was what was going to happen and then they had to "wing it" when there weren't any cue cards. There was a lot that also ended up getting cut from the interview, but that's how the media works! It was lots of fun and they really enjoyed being on the Ellen show. It was definitely a different experience from other interviews they have done with the live studio audience too!

Justin and Kayla loved your video and say hello from Bedford! Actually, Justin's words were something like "oh man-- now I have to learn to rap too!)

Kayla and Justin visited Orlando recently and they had a great time. We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. I guess everyone has different experiences but our experience at SkyVenture Orlando was very positive and Team Future will be back to fly there again next time we visit. Thanks to everyone there!

Team Future wanted to thank the staff, NORCAL Alliance and especially Kent Sessions for a fantastic time at I Fly SF Bay so far!. You guys are all awesome! The tunnel is fantastic! The kids have had a great time flying around and turning 6 Way VRW points with MX Bill TJ Kris Brian and the rest of NorCal Alliance! They can't wait to play more for the rest of the weekend! More to come on Friday Saturday and Sunday night! The kids can't wait! Come join in the fun and try out this great new tunnel if you are in the area!

The Team Future kids aren't allowed to have their own profile yet, so they asked me to post for them... They say that their favorite tunnel flyers are their coaches Dan Perry and Brad Cole who are not only fantastic flyers but inspiring teachers as well. Without Brad and Dan they know they would not be where they are today. Kayla and Justin also adore every single instructor at SkyVenture Colorado, everyone who works for SVCO is like family to us and we feel like a part of the family. All of the instructors there have helped bring the kids up as flyers and they kids idolize each and every one of them. Of course, they also wanted to make sure that I mentioned Ray Kubiak and Jason Peters. Team Future thinks you two are awesome and they can't wait to visit you guys very soon and learn some more new tricks. Justin always says "Jason and Ray are Decade Spent and we are Decade to Go" . Derek V. from Colorado is also one of their idols-- awesome flyer and a great person as well. They also asked us to mention Selwyn from North Carolina (are you working on the toilet bowl?). Craig Girard is also one of their hereos. They love visiting Arizona and getting the chance to see Craig as well. Just a note from mom-- every time these kids experience an obstacle or have trouble with a new move, it just motivates them to learn more and keep improving. They think you guys are all "Tunnel Gods" and have loved getting to know you! OK Jewels-- do we win the sappy award now?
