What do you's prefer for your rig?

Boobies? -
You are right, so I apologize that what I meant as strong encouragement ended up coming out as an absolute. I believe in being a grown-assed man and taking responsibility for your own decisions. Some food for thought - According to the CDC (http://wonder.cdc.gov), there were 4,698 firearm deaths of children aged 1 – 14 between 1999 – 2010. Of these, 2851 were homicides, 916 were suicides and 785 were unintentional deaths. Read this if you want a really sobering look at the issue: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/09/29/us/children-and-guns-the-hidden-toll.html?_r=0 So sure, choose for yourself what best fits your own personal circumstances because I’m sure you’ve taken into account all possibilities. But also be prepared for the potential personal, emotional and financial responsibility that comes along with that thought process.

If it's a loaded weapons, unless it's on my person it's secured. People come into my house all the time for a variety of reasons - it's not just kids that I'm worried about. Perhaps you haven't noticed, but people are ridiculously stupid sometimes. Beowolf, did you mount the Nanovault in your vehicle or is it lose? Looks like it comes with a security cable that can be secured to something?

I use this at home: http://amzn.com/B002AQ0PFW I believe it can capture up to 5 different fingers worth of prints, and I can have it open in about 3 seconds. Never had a failed read since I first set it up. As for the car, as many times as my car has been broken into the past five years (7 times) I would never leave anything valuable in my car, much less a weapon. Even if this weren't the case, I feel it needs to be more accessable to be of any value. Get your CCW and get in the habit of carrying, always lock your weapons up at home - no exceptions.

Skydiving after open heart surgery
SkyCoi replied to skybadiver's topic in Skydivers with Disabilities
I had what is called the Ross Procedure in 1998 (I was 32) - pulmonary valve moved to the aortic position and a donor valve placed in the pulmonary position. Upside of this, as opposed to swine or manufactured valve is supposed to be less chance of rejection, no need to take anti-coagulants (they made me feel like shit) and it grows with you. Downside, potentially as it relates to skydiving, is that I had a single diseased valve (aortic) treated with two valve procedures (aortic and pulmonary). Multiple points of failure I guess is the way I think of it, and I certainly believe (without actually knowing) that I’m more at risk of a hard opening or other direct impact causing one of the valves to disengage. I didn’t start jumping until 2006, and before I did I spoke to my cardiologist who didn’t really have much to say about it other than that I was “crazy” to jump out of a plane. He did have a lot to say about scuba, however, because of risk due to the pressure of diving. Makes sense to me. Anyway, this has been my experience. I accept the likelihood of increased risk without having been really proactive about seeking the actual science in this area. If my life circumstances were different I might feel differently about that. I also want to echo what Andy said, in that nobody who is not a trained medical professional is qualified to answer this question. Individual non-professional anecdotal experiences are greatly overrated and potentially dangerous. Basically, I don’t know shit – but would be happy to chat about the surgery if you’re nervous or have questions. Good luck to you my friend! -
I'm looking for a good price and excellent customer service. I've purchased these online before, but was curious where others were buying them. I'm specifically looking for the Boxster model. Thanks for any advice.

Never cutaway? Do you look forward to your first?
SkyCoi replied to JeffCa's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I had my first and only on jump #79. In retrospect, I have always thought it was avoidable - pilot-chute-in-tow, and I didn't do anything to try to extract the d-bag (body roll, elbow strike). That said, I recall my procedures being automatic and it was an enormous relief to know that shit worked as advertised. I'd be happy to never have another, but I've also never become complacent. Something I have noticed over the years is that bunches of low-time jumpers seem to have their first cutaway at around the same time. I call this phenomena"Cutaway Envy". Conciously or unconciously, they want to get it out of the way and so once the first person gets theirs, suddenly those line twists on the 210 seem a lot more out of control. -
You gotta figure that'll get tested if I buy them!

I'm about to buyy= a new touring motorcycle and I'm considering the HBC100 for in-helmet communication/music. Purportedly, we'll be able to listen to independant music sources, or the same, and still be able to talk - apparently it lowers/mutes the music when you speak or your phone rings. So my first question was, of course, can I mute her? Seriously though, has anyone tried them, particularly with motorbikes, and what was your experience like? Battery life? Durability? Ease-of-use? Thanks for any info ...

Take him to EMP (Rock & Roll Museum) - tons of fun, lots of interactive things to do. Located near the space needle if I remember correctly. http://www.empmuseum.org/

Traitor. Anyone who has ever been in the military understands the clearness and severity of the laws he broke. This: ''A private first class does not get to decide whether a conversation between a high-level US official and the king of a Gulf nation should be made public."

I would drop fish on my victim from a great height ...

First time I experienced it I thought she was peeing on me - was unaware of the phenomena at the time. Go figure, it was a Navy chick. Totally awesome, and there's nothing like immediate feedback ...

... and continuing to wait while the loser scratches the f'ing tickets!

Five Points is up-n-coming, so I wouldn't write it off. Cap Hill and Cheesman are both great areas, as is Cherry Creek, Bonnie Brae and Wash Park. All relatively in the same area, with Cap Hill and Cheesman probably somewhat less expensive. I would avoid Aurora and, if you plan to work DT, anything South of I-225 and North of I-70 simply because of the commute. My girlfriend lived in Parker, and it was 1 - 1.5 hours to DT during rush hour. Golden is another great area, home of the Coors Brewery, and pretty centrally located to the mountains, Denver and Boulder. Longmont is where Mile High is located, and is roughly 1 hour from downtown Denver. Canon City has the only other non-Cessna DZ (that I'm aware of), and that's 1.5 hours. Good luck with your move, feel free to PM me with any specific questions.

Anyone interested in prescription sunglasses, I have nothing but good things to say about www.metalsunglasses.com (I worked with a guy named Matt). Excellent communication and customer service. They were able to use my existing Converter’s and insert an extra dark transition prescription lens for $290. If I didn’t already have frames, they also sell Wraptor frames for ~$100 (and other, less expensive aluminum frames). Very comfortable, no discernible extra weight. What I always appreciated about my Converter’s was the ability to swap the dark lenses with a yellow or clear lens. This was handy for sunset loads or night time motorcycle riding – but of course the problem was that I couldn’t really see very well (I can’t wear contacts). Ordering two sets of lenses was somewhat cost prohibitive, but these dark transition lens works great. The knock I always heard was they were slow to, err… transition … and never got very dark. These change very quickly and are dark enough so that you can’t see my eyes looking at your boobs. Warning – you still look like a huge dork if you wear them inside.

I've always wondered - do you die a toasty death if you run over the cord? Ok, I guess I know you won't die ... but are you adequately grounded in this scenario?

If your lawn killed your powered mower, then what makes you think your puny arms can push that thing through the yard? But to answer your question, my 300lb + next door neighbor uses one to mow her lawn every weekend. Gotta keep the blades sharp to keep the cut clean, otherwise you could damage your yard.

This gave me chills the other night - love me some George Strait: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlgM37pPN3o

Pilot ejected from small plane...w/o an ejection seat
SkyCoi replied to ryoder's topic in The Bonfire
How does that canopy come open during normal student flight operations? Even if not latched, wouldn't the air pressure keep it closed? -
I was going to suggest Power Settings as well. Or use Windows 7 instead .... I know that it comes OEM these days, but unless you have a touch-enabled screen I don't much see the point. W7 is the most stable OS to date.

Skydive Jump Statistics North America

Need more info! Pickle pinwheels - pickles, ham and cream cheese. How does one optimally assemble said ingredients? Have also tried the Jalapeno Beer. Awful. Pumpkin beer is fantastic, and I don't like pumpkin.
