Perris/Elsinore smoked out?
skyeyeskydiving replied to bigbearfng's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
*** I'm suprised you haven't heard about it. Close to 1 million acres have burned. Thousands of homes destroyed, and the last count I heard was 16 dead. This doesn't even begin to account for the lost livestock and wildlife. Biggest fires in history out here. Major disaster. I think for a while people thought that San Diego, CA proper was in hot water. Give him time! ;-) I think this is the same guy from UK recdot that just heard (despite the widespread publicity throughout the UK skydiving community for the past two years) that a windtunnel is being constructed (pending suitable fundraising efforts) at Milton Keynes. Crazydave...buy a newspaper dude! ;-) leave the house or clck on bbcnews occasionally! Blue Ones, Stay Safe. Martin Evans -

***well, I guess it is time i introduced myself! I'm not a skydiver yet, still working on the funds....soon though, soon. so, about me, hmmmm. I've been manifest bitch @ skydive aggieland for a couple of months now Quote As others have said, a DZ ought to do all it can to get it's staff jumping whenever they aren't working, it makes for an all round happier community. My manifestors jump for free, that's right for free! Manifestors looking to work at a medium size dz with a large turbine aircraft and a small DZ atmosphere should consider sending me their resume for future employment consideration, I'll take care of you as I do with all our staff and that's the truth (not just lip service)! check us out, www.skydivedelmarva.com email resumes to MartinEvans@skyeyeskydiving.com

Blue Skies, Black Death (Roger Nelson)
skyeyeskydiving replied to SkymonkeyONE's topic in Blue Skies - In Memory Of
Shock after shock keeps entering our world, what a loss. Roger was an innovator and most definitely one of this sports greatest characters. This is just another example of how even the mighty can fall and that non of us are bulletproof, another innovator, implementer & advocate of safe skydiving practices falls. Even with our guard constantly up we are never far from paying the ultimate price for our indulgence in this great sport, what a terrible, terrible loss. Condolences to Missy & Rook and all Rogers family and friends on behalf of Tracey and myself and your skydiving family here in Delaware. We are stunned! So sad! Martin & Tracey. -

*** Do you have any data to back this up? Your coach jumps, including gear rental and packing, are $90. Gear is $23, packing is $6, and jump tickets are $20 (or less, I know). That means the coaching costs $21, right? Do you pay the coach more than $21? What do coach jumps at most operations cost? Quote Yes I do have data. Almost all of our coached jumps are done with AFF Instructors who, I feel, will provide a much more comprehensive coaching experience than a newly rated 100/200 jump USPA coach. I would never have the gall to ask a professional instructor to give up a higher paying tandem, AFF or video jump to make a coach jump for a $10/15/20 coach fee, which seems to be the payrate standard for a coach jump at most operations, with the emphasis on the lower side! Additionally, when comparing our rates against others it should be noted that we fly a Twin Otter to around 14,000 feet for these jumps and not a cessna to 9,000 feet, as do many operations that may have a cheaper rate displayed. As far as comparing apples to apples in regards to our fees against other operations you can be sure that I spent the winter season doing extensive research on this subject and I wouldn't make claims that I'm not pretty damn sure I can back up with fact. If you do your own research you'll see that I'm right! Check out all our very preferential rates at www.skydivedelmarva.com and compare to other operations, you'll see that overall, our FJC to A license and beyond skydiving rates are better than comparable to our competition and other operations further afield! Now, I have a point or an issue to raise with you Dave, regarding your constant sniping at pretty much every post I make and rarely are your comments correct or justified. Under normal circumstances this would be fine with me as no one likes a good debate more than I. However, there are a couple of points I'd like to point out regarding these snipes so that those looking in are privy to some information that otherwise they wouldn't be! I'd like them to know that, as the recently resigned president of the UMD, College Park Skydiving Club you and I have a professional relationship of sorts, one that you, I feel, cannot deny has been nothing but cordial on my part. Not only that but I have done all I can to allow your club to benefit and prosper by using the Skydive Delmarva DZ as your clubs home base at very favorable rates and that since I have been the manager things have improved for your club in it's relationship with the DZ, financially and otherwise. Furthermore, when I raised our general student rates here this season I allowed your club, with no requests or input on the matter, to retain the same (or a better than) profit arrangement that you have had for the past few years. No other organization was allowed the same deal. Not only that, even though you are no longer the clubs president and have moved out of state, when you returned to the DZ with a honey in tow a few weeks ago, one that wasn't a UMD club member, I allowed her to make a Tandem jump at not only well below standard client rates but considerably cheaper than she would have been able to make a jump as one of your club members! As you may have now guessed, I take umbrage at your attempts to discredit our operation when all I've ever done for you and your club members is not only treat them very well, financially and otherwise but also on a personal level I have gone beyond that and given you yourself personal preferential rates, so where's the beef Dave? By all means if anyone feels I am being deceitful or making claims I cannot justify, or that I'm just plain wrong about something then please feel free to take issue with it. However, if you are someone that I've always gone out of my way to help or provide benefits for, perhaps if you think things don't add up it would be preferable for your first step to be to approach me privately, prior to coming into a public forum with the intent to cause me anguish with no justified reason. Doing the latter only puts a bad taste in my mouth against you or your organization and certainly doesn't make me feel as if I should take the extra steps to help you out in the future! Those who owe me or our operation nothing are perfectly at liberty to come straight in for the attack if they think it's called for (or not, whatever flips your switch)! If the point hasn't sunk in yet Dave, it's not necessarily this post that I'm taking umbrage at, it's your constant responses, mostly (just those) with no justification that have made this one the one to break the camels back! Hope the DZ your at now has better luck! Blue ones, Stay Safe. Martin Evans. Max weight of tandem passengers
skyeyeskydiving replied to sinker's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
*** I'm a big guy myself at 6'6" 235#... 277 out the door with tandem gear on... Therefore, the max I'll take is a 200 pounder. Quote in that case I have a couple of questions for you if you wouldn't mind. 1) How do you're co-workers feel about you only taking up to 200 pounders (as you'll get all the chicks all the time I'd guess)? 2) How do you respond to those that bitch that you only carry half the weight they do on a busy day (do they get paid more than you)? These are serious questions from a DZM that would like to hear from someone that I'm sure has been confronted by these situations. Thanks in advance for your input. Blue ones, Stay Safe. After graduation question
skyeyeskydiving replied to Scottyb's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
*** Fun jumps would be great but how many coached jumps are needed for my "A" At our dropzone we require you to make only the jumps you need to in order to complete the requirements on your yellow, A License proficiency Card. Much of these requirements can be fulfilled during your student training jumps so therefore there really is no set number of jumps required at our dropzone, although generally it will take you 3/4 jumps after graduation to fulfill the requirements. Many operations require their AFF graduated students to complete an additional course of jumps (often more than the 7/8 jumps it takes to graduate the AFF program) and even require them to make several coached jumps in disciplines they may not ever participate in, have the remotest interest in and which ability in these additional disciplines is not a requirement for earning an a license and they charge a considerable fee for these 'required at this dropzone' (but not by USPA) coached jumps to obtain an A License! At our dropzone we require you only to make the jumps you need to complete the proficiency card and we charge considerably less per coach jump than most operations, below cost in fact! With the introduction of the ISP program the cost of earning an A License has risen considerably and priced the sport out of the financial reach of a great many potential participants. At our dropzone we are all about building our 'family' and we do our best to keep our rates low in order to do that. Blue ones, Stay Safe. Martin Evans. Skydive Delmarva in Laurel, Delaware hosts a Scott Miller Canopy Course each season, this year it will be held on the 25/26/27th July. Also with the opening of our new freefly school and the arrival of Mikey McGrath we can offer a course almost daily now. Additionally, I monitor our up and coming jumpers canopy skills on almost every jump and offer advice, tips and tricks along with safety hints whenever I feel input is required (and always of course if it is requested)! We are a Twin Otter DZ open each day except Tuesdays and with a little prior advice it shouldn't be a problem to get canopy piloting help at our operation on a daily or jump by jump basis. Check out our website if you do know of our operation and then contact us from there if you require any additional help or information, or of course you may always correspond with me directly if you wish! Good luck in your quest for further knowledge! Blue ones, Stay Safe. Martin Evans. Hi there, If anyone from Poland is watching this message board I'm trying to get an urgent message to Skydiver Jurek Gieruszczak who lives near Slupsk by the the Baltic Coast. I was in contact with him until a couple of days ago but now my emails keep bouncing back. If anyone can get a message to him some other way it would be most greatly appreciated. Please post responses to my email account: MartinEvans@skyeyeskydiving.com Thanks, BO SS Martin.

So, now that some of the more southerly dz's and a few lucky northern ones have had a couple of months to work with the ISP (Integrated Student Program), how's it working out for you? All positive/negative comments regarding the program from dz ops or jumpstaff and those seeking licensing through the program welcome. I'm sure I'm not the only person interested in hearing about and learning from how it's working out so far! I'd like to thank you in advance for your input. THANKS. BO SS Martin

A simple search for "baseball bat" brought up the thread I was searching for, so I don't think that I misrepresented you. I don't truly foresee you carrying out any of this, but I don't see a point in posting it either, if we are just wanting to discuss a topic. link **************************************************** Gee, it's really just like the rec here after all, someone takes something you say and just posts the bits that proves their point, never mind if it's totally out of context and doesn't even come close to portraying facts or the 'tone' of a conversation/debate! I had to go read the whole thread (well my posts in the thread) just in case I really am the asshole you are making me out to be, rather than just the one I already know I am! I guess you really had to be there, I bet you're a right hoot at party's eh! You say you know me from Z-Hills, did we get along (you obviously don't KNOW me)? Anyway with respect to Sangiro's request I'm not going to clutter up his forum defending myself against bullcrap, I can go do that all I want at recdot! Have a field day! PS This is a smiley face ;-) look out for them, they mean something! BO SS Martin -

skyeyeskydiving replied to slotperfect's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Boy! Who would have believed this thread would have gone on and on and... ;-) and so many people missing the point (though I'm glad to say not everyone)! Just to clarify a couple of things: I wasn't saying one forum was better than another, I certainly didn't say that rec was better or this one here was crap and I did say that dz.com is a great magazine. My comments were made in reference to my perception of skydivers in general today (well more towards the attitudes of -some of - those who are newer to the sport) and not to the type of person that posts to one or other of the forums! I don't dislike the moderator per se, I just think that one or two of 'em are just a bit too quick at flexing their muscle, sometimes to get to the meat of a situation you have to allow a little room! I am just as fed up as many are that recdot has gone the way it has but I prefer the format there (its simple to post and follow) and I'm hanging in hoping that things will improve, though I'm pretty much resigned to the fact they won't as most of those that did add value to it have been driven away by the actions of a few! I don't believe I've ever threatened on recdot to beat someone with a bat (or any other object) though I have said, probably a number of times, something along the lines that 'today's politically correct attitude is responsible for a number of things getting out of hand at the dz and that I hanker for the days when it wasn't felt incorrect in certain circumstances, for one person to slap another upside the head to make their point...' yeah I know, I'm a neanderthal, what can I say! :-( As to Peter's suggestion that Sangiro offer me a moderators position, that wouldn't work, I'm much more suited to being a second than a referee (and I do like to stir things up occasionally, if you hadn't noticed)! The best comment to come from the whole thread in reference to (I hope) everything I said: "Reeeelax, people. I personally don't care if Martin is upset that the site is not run to his liking. It's just his opinion". As the guy that said this is the same guy that misrepresented me by claiming I threatened to beat people with a bat, I have to wonder how he can get one statement so right while being so completely wrong about another! Conspiracy do ya think! ;-) Blue ones, Stay safe. Martin Evans. -
Does your DZ offer "Discounts"?
skyeyeskydiving replied to Craig's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Quote I was thinking of going to the DZO and asking if they would be willing to give a discount if you "pre-pay" for a certain amount of jump tickets. ....................................................................................................... It's just a thought/possability to consider and it sure beats sitting in a corner weeping. You may have missed the reference that I am originally from overseas myself so it's not about an American bashing foreign visitors. You are of course right that any of numerous possabilities exist as to who could be responsable for the thefts, as I said this is just one idea that I hope people consider. I'd love for others to post their own theories for us to consider, any line or idea that comes up that I haven't already followed up on I'll pursue with just as much zeal! As for damaging the skydiving community and camaradarie of the sport, do you think that glancing around the people on the dropzone and wondering which one of them may have ripped us off is any less damaging than my post. At our DZ and others that have had similar situations of theft the community is already damaged...because as you say it could be one of our buddies that did the theft! In reply to Phreezone: Martin have you put your gear in the database here yet? http://www.dropzone.com/stolen/ That's a good question. I was asked the same thing by a jumper at our DZ, this is what I told him. As a firm believer in the phrase "God helps those that help themselves" I thought it was a fair answer. Here's the deal. I posted at a bunch of sites and sent out emails to many friends, aquaintances & DZ's around the World. I also found a number of sites that information regarding stolen equipment could be posted on. In order to post the details on many of these sites it required a serious amount of typing. So, I collated all the information of where to post and forwarded it to all the people that lost gear, suggesting that as "many hands make light work" they should individually post their details. Despite all the time work and effort that I invested (and am still investing) in my present uncomfortable state to help recover their equipment, to my knowledge not a one of them has made any effort to do so! The DZ itself didn't lose anything in the break in, all equipment was individually owned, including the tandem rig. I'm sorry we had a break in and people lost equipment, apparently I'm more concerned about it than those who were hit, seeing as they don't want to make the minimal effort now required of them (as I've already done the leg work for them) to post the information! The only reason I'm posting again on the newsgroups is because I want the scumbags caught! Their is no free lunch! Bo SS Martin

....ONCE WE WERE A BROTHERHOOD & TRUST IN EACH OTHER WAS OUR CREED...now we are forced to sleep with one eye open and must question our faith and trust in those we call our brothers! "Chutingstar.com" wrote: > We had 6 complete rigs stolen from Alabama Skydiving in Pell City this week. THE COMPLETE LIST IS POSTED BELOW THIS MESSAGE along with the list from another break in! Hi Mike and all, Now I don't want anyone to think that my recent groundbound state has induced paranoia but this incident has startling similarities to our own break in here at Skydive Delmarva in Delaware almost a month to the day (13th Nov) prior to Pell City's break in. We lost seven rigs, about the max number one really strong guy or two not so strong guys could carry to their transport in one hit! Very similar M/O, we also lost two staff rigs, one Vector Tandem rig, one student size rig and three sport rigs. As I stated in my post on our burglary, I can't see these rigs as being salable in this country, of course with lots of mix and matching it's possible that someone could get away with selling or using them here (at a very small or backwoods DZ) but doubtful I'd say. Overseas though, well that's a different story! My intention is not to start a witch hunt with this post against overseas visitors, or anyone traveling the country visiting dropzones, after all I was one of those guys myself once and many of my greatest friends visit and travel the USA on a regular basis. However, it's not beyond the realm of possibilities that there could be someone from a little visited (for skydiving) or third world country that's unlikely to receive visitors from the states or elsewhere at their dropzone in the near future, or perhaps ever, that is visiting the good 'ol USA to pick up some new or near new equipment for their operation and or patrons! After all this gear has to be going somewhere or else there's no point stealing it, so this scenario is no less unlikely than any other I've heard yet! In the weeks immediately preceding our break in we never had any overseas visitors, so I'm not casting aspersions here against anyone (that's not to say though that I don't have a suspect whose whereabouts I'd dearly like to know). However, we as do most dropzones do have visitors from far and wide during the course of a season and just as Pell City may have been, we could have been targeted months or even years before (I know this doesn't apply to PC)! Whoever, burgled us had been here at one time or another, as they only hit the building where our rigs were kept, so they certainly knew what they were after and where those items were! Let's be careful with our suspicions but not careless, these scumbags whoever they are must be stopped (sometimes the nicest people are the lousiest bastards). I ask all readers of this group to be ever watchful and if you have any ideas, thoughts or suspicions regarding these break-ins that are occurring at DZ's across the nation, please share them with those of us that are appealing for your help. You never know, your home DZ may get hit next...and it's possible they may not be able to weather the hit and remain in business...then how are you going to feel! Equipment Stolen From Skydive Delmarva.
skyeyeskydiving replied to skyeyeskydiving's topic in The Bonfire
Unfortunately we were burgled on the night of Wednesday 13th November 2002 at Skydive Delmarva in Laurel, Delaware and a number of rigs were stolen. I'm pretty certain that who ever has this equipment will have a hard time moving it on the American market without eventually being caught and therefore, maybe a visitor from overseas is the culprit! Any information you may have to help us recover the equipment or apprehend the culprit(s) would be gratefully received and appreciated. Contact Martin Evans or Tracey Eckersley. 1-888-875 3540 or forward information by email to martinevans@skyeyeskydiving.com Equipment taken as below: Vector Tandem VTC-II #3603142 Reserve TV-13 #33754 Container/Harness - Black EZ-384 #VS-384-000385 Main - Black, White & Purple Airtec Cypres Tandem 1-pin #4020C4605DC872 Date of MFR 04-1996 ********************* Javelin TJN Staff Javelin Container/Harness #19179 - Purple, Electric Blue, Black binding Stainless Steel, White Pinstriping, White embroidery - Skydive Delmarva, Staff, Kathy Airtec Cypres #50D117645EC92260 PD 126 Reserve #21529 Sabre 135 - Rainbow ********************* Javelin Odyssey TJN Javelin Container/Harness #21312 C19 PD Factory Team Container with Sunpath & PD Logos, Stainless Steel - Navy Blue, Gold Pop Top, Gold B & D, Gold Embroidery Vengeance 135 Main #000770 - Navy Blue with 2 White Racing Stripes Micro Raven 135 Reserve- #53936966 Green ********************* Javelin TJN Staff Javelin Container/Harness - Purple, Electric Blue, Black binding Stainless Steel, White Pinstriping, White embroidery - Skydive Delmarva, Staff, Bill Airtec Cypres Heatwave 135 Main - Pink, Teal ********************* Javelin Odyssey J3 Sunpath Demo, Container/Harness #19953 C19 articulated Stainless Steel - Teal, Gold Embroidery, Lavendar Harness Airtec Cypres #502162655CC8210 PD 126 Reserve #014551 Sabre 2 170 Main #000857 - Blackberry, Lemon, Teal DOM 2000 ********************* Javelin TJN Javelin Container/Harness #10934 CAD Hip & Chest Rings - Teal, Charcoal, Black With Charcoal Harness PD 126 Reserve #10029 Jedei 136 Prototype Main - Teal and Charcoal ********************* Javelin J3 Javelin Container/Harness - Black, Electric Blue pin stripes Airtec Cypres #110179665BC822 DOM 08/02 PD 160 Reserve - Green
