    what is a..

Sometimes it's nice to take a moment and appreciate the inherent beauty of a skydive, and that one is pretty impressive! Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  2. There is soooo much awesomeness in that clip, I can hardly comprehend all of it!!! Sheer genius, I am in awe. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  3. After hanging my head while wearing purple & gold every Monday during last season's 0-12 fiasco, I can finally hold my head high again. My guess is that there will be some speedbumps along the way this season, but 9 days after a chance at setting a new conference record losing streak of 16 games, we're 2-1 overall, 1-1 vs. top 10, 1-0 vs. PAC-10, and ranked in the top 25 for the first time since 2003. Bow down, the Huskies are back from the wilderness.
  4. Since when is being in your home (the bill mentioned was about HOME INVASION) 'walking around with a gun'? Where did I say they were walking outside their home? Even if I had, the point wouldn't be worth arguing. The key part is that they were violating a law that the state deemed permissible and that the voters accepted. 5. The fact that someone engages in a lawful self-defense does not negate the fact that in the moments leading up to that self-defense, they were just walking around with a gun in violation of local law. Either say that the city can't ban that possession, or allow them to enforce their laws, but don't tell them "make your own laws, but only enforce them when we allow you to". To make one more attempt at an analogy...a guy gets a call at work that his wife is in labor. He speeds home, picking up a local sheriff along the way. It turns out he has an expired drivers license. The sheriff notes the special circumstances and doesn't cite him for speeding, but does that excuse the fact that he drove to work on an expired license? 6. I've listened to him on the radio more than enough times to be secure in my opinion that his job is to entertain his audience (and he does it well). Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  7. Cite. You want me to cite something I specifically said I've never heard? OK, I'll quote myself...please see above, now with quotation marks. As an original work, no citation is necessary. Nice evasion - now prove that he's being paid by some corp or similar to espouse a certain position - you know, what you originally said? And no, the fact that he's being paid as an editorialist for Fox doesn't count, and neither do endorsements - show me the checks directly to him. You're attributing a meaning to my words that is unintended at best, and in my opinion, non-existent. Glenn Beck gets paid to speak publicly, and that's the only kind of speech I've ever heard him make. I have no way of knowing whether his private discussions are typical of a person who loves his country and the people in it, and I have no reason to believe his publicly stated positions are in hopes of gaining anything other than a paycheck. 8. Imagine a piece of state legislation that said, "Municipalities may limit traffic to speeds lower than specified by state law, however they may not enforce those speed limits against people who can prove they were wearing red underwear." That would be a stupid law, and whatever the goal is, it could be accomplished by much more logical means. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  9. Cite. You want me to cite something I specifically said I've never heard? OK, I'll quote myself...please see above, now with quotation marks. As an original work, no citation is necessary. Cue Olbermann / Maddow. I don't know who Maddow is. I agree with regard to Olbermann. The fact that Beck isn't the only such entertainer should come as no surprise to anyone, and changes nothing about the nature of his work. Ibid. Did I imply Beck was the only such entertainer? Because I certainly didn't mean to. I only talked about him individually because, well, he's who I thought this thread was about. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" 10. If I work my ass off and become rich as a result, why shouldn't I be allowed to relax a bit and remain that way? You seem to be the classist here. Blues, Dave Or if your lazy friend inherits it, or if some Wall Street thugs steals it...... See, the origin doesn't matter, but pandering to the rich while the nation's people are poor, homeless, sick, etc is classist. Amazing how the people of this nation have no regard for the poor....until they become poor that is. Dave, it's just the structure of our nation to dislike people in lower economic classes than we are in. Don't worry, people in higher classes than you or I also have contempt for us. Taking from the rich to give to the poor is no more or less classist than allowing the rich to thrive on the fruits of the laboring class. Personally, I think that people should be allowed to lie in whatever bed they’ve (legally) made for themselves. I hold no particular contempt for those substantially higher or lower than me on the socioeconomic ladder. The fact that my position today is dramatically different than it was as a child may have some bearing on my indifference. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  11. I've never heard Glenn Beck say anything he wasn't paid to say. I have heard Glenn Beck express something substantially different than love for an awful lot of people who comprise our country (read "liberals"). I have no reason to believe Glenn Beck loves this country any more than anyone else does; if anything, the opposite is true, as I've heard him complain more than some. I also said nothing about Democrats in the past or current administration, so how you deduced that little nugget suggests a logic process similar to what Beck employs (i.e. if it'll sound controversial, just blurt it out). Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  12. Sure. That follows a natural flow of authority. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  13. Really? They've never called me at all. Have you asked them to stop? Nah...I just started hanging up when I hear "Ron Paul" or "Campaign for Liberty" and I have no pending elections to vote in. I've thought about asking them to remove me from their call list, but pressing the end button seems easier & quicker. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  14. And AGAINST the right of the common citizens to defend themselves: The state was basically saying "Local governments may make their own laws, but cannot enforce them against criminals who are caught as a result of self-defense." That's a crappy way of writing law, I'd have probably voted against it too and told the proponents to come up with a better way of accomplishing their goal. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  15. I made financial contributions to his campain too, but I'll admit I'm getting sick of his PAC calling me to ask for my support for all manner of other politicians, most of whom are running local or state campaigns thousands of miles away from me. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  16. Glenn Beck is an entertainer. He derives his substantial income by doing whatever will appeal to his listeners. There's a lot of hatred in this world, and some people like to nurse and nurture it. As long as he can continue to appeal to those people, he'll continue to act the way he does. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  17. Absolutely. These are the subjective disagreements about what rights should be. Socialists view rights as what the government can do for you. Libertarians see rights as what the government cannot do to you. The right to healthcare and right to a job are not what I view as "rights" becauae each places the "responsibility" of PROVIDING health care or employment on somebody else. Compare the right to free speech. It's yours and mine and not dependent on amyone else. The right to bear arms depends only on somebody manufacturing arms. The right to be free of unreasonable search and seizure. The right to remain silent. The right to vote. The right to be free of slavery. The right to due process before a taking. These are things that place zero responsibility on you or me. None. The right the health care or a job requires somebody else to take on a responsibility. Don't you see a difference? Your right to free speech doesn't require the government to give you a megaphone and the right to bear arms doesn't require the government to give you a gun, so why would a right to work require the government to give you a job? 20. ding ding ding ding ding ........... we have a winner here! If you are a single lady and actively dating, you really should be prepared. We're not just talking about birth control. + 1 I carry them in a couple of sizes … so don’t even try the “doesn’t fit me” line … O I'd suggest ensuring you always err on the side of too small. Few men are likely to respond favorably to, "Oh, sorry, this magnum's too big for you...lemme see if I have a smaller one" Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

  22. It assumes there are two major sides. I've honestly concluded that the two "sides" we see in DC (and in the media) aren't actually representative of where the majority of Americans really fall. I bet that if you could accurately survey every American (not just voters) you'd discover that there are a lot more people outside the party system than there are who fall fully within the party viewpoints. It seems to me you've acknowledged (bolded) the same perception I have, and in any case I agree with your post above. In my mind, the two "sides" comprise around 20-25% each. Of the 50-60% in the middle, many align with the same side all or most of the time, but not necessarily on any particular issue. Of course this is still far to simple, as it assumes a linear distribution, when the reality isn't nearly so neat. It is still my opinion, however, that for all practical purposes, every popular issue has been divvied up between the extremes, with the moderates in the middle left only details to haggle over...quite vigorously in many cases. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  23. As a similarly minded, non parenthetical voter, I fail to see the disservice. I do think there are two major sides, and I do think many of the major news outlets, including those mentioned here, are biased. How does that insult or discredit you or me?
