I do things by myself all the time. Snowboarding is just one of them. Hitting the slopes with friends can be fun, but after awhile, I get tired of having to stop & wait for others. Sometimes (probably half the time) I prefer going up by myself, so I can just put on the headphones, crank up some funk, and then just go fast and make turns. I did learn the downside of this last year though, in the trees, out of bounds, on the backside of an unfamiliar mountain. I also like mountain-biking by myself...going my own pace and not wasting breath talking. My ex had a real problem with that, because she thought biking was something we should do together, but her idea of of a good ride (slow, on pavement) and my idea are two different things. She also didn't like the fact that I like to occassionally hit bars by myself, so I can sit, drink a beer, think about stuff, and just generally relax without feeling obligated to talk to anyone. I love my family and friends, and I like spending time with them. I also like time to myself, and I like to do things with that "me-time", not just sit around doing nothing. I will admit that sometimes it can get out of hand. I recently did a naked runway run, by myself, while it was snowing like crazy. I should have had people with me for that one! Listening to 50-jump wonders tell 40-jump wonders what to do/buy, while 30-jump wonders tell 3,000 jump instructors how inappropriate their advice is can get, well, tiring after awhile. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

Ditto. I have 2 purebred dogs, both female. The boxer does not conform very well to the breed standard (she's too small, too long in the snout, and too skittish). The bulldog on the other hand does, and then some. Knowing the breed standard and having gone to a few dog shows, I'm certain she'd have placed well every time and won most smaller shows, if she weren't "altered". We got a friend deal on her for $1500, and the rest of her litter went for considerably more. The breeding requests are frequent, and constantly met with the same answer. "No, can't do it." Both of my dogs are spayed, as is our cat, and even our rabbit (though accidental pregnancy of the rabbit seems awfully unlikely). The female cockatiel isn't, but only because the male was and there's not exactly a cockatiel overpopulation problem. Bottom line - If you can't afford to spay/neuter your pet, you can't afford to have the pet. Blues, Dave P.S. What the fuck are people thinking when they intentionally allow mutts to breed? I mean, I could maybe understand a service-dog breeder trying to come up with some lab/shepherd mix that's smart and good for any kind of service training, but backyard Betty/Bob? Does anyone actually believe that a pug/scotty breeding with a pinscher/chihuahua might make some "cool" pups? Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

Concealed Carriers More Law Abiding Than General Public
livendive replied to Kennedy's topic in Speakers Corner
Err, not quite. 1 in say 6,000 might have an A licence, but 5999 don't have criminal records. 1 in 20 seem more reasonable? I don't know what the numbers are and don't really care. I was simply trying to point out that CCW holders ought to have lower crime rates than the general public because they've already been checked for a criminal record, just like skydivers ought to be better at RW than the general public because they've already had training. Especially in consideration of the fact that euthanasia is usually kinder than leaving them there. Blues, Dave Oh usually? Well that's OK then. Well, it is in those cases. Well, if the dog was tied in the yard in sub-zero temperatures without shelter, food, or water, it'd be justified. Honestly, I've never been exposed to any seizures that weren't justified. That's not to say they don't happen, they very well may. However in my experience there are people who provide proper care for their animals and keep them, people who don't provide proper care for their animals but keep them anyhow, and people who don't provide proper care for their animals and have them subsequently seized. So you're willing to risk death or serious injury by jumping out of an airplane, but you're not willing to risk having to pay for it? Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -

If they want to stop an invasion (not saying that one is iminent), a preemptive strike would not be the way... as any strike would ensure an invasion... any strike that would stop an invasion, would result in something worse, and they know it. If they want to stop an invasion, take away any remote justification... stop supporting terrorists for example. Alternately, if the US wants to avoid a preemptive strike, take away any remote justification... stop threatening/rattling swords for example? Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" Concealed Carriers More Law Abiding Than General Public
livendive replied to Kennedy's topic in Speakers Corner
I believe that is the case in all concealed-carry states, therefore stating that CCW's have crime rates lower than the general public is like saying that skydivers are better at RW than the general population. One should hope so! Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -

I've been using AOL for 8 years or so and I subscribe to several newsgroups. It's a simple ISP that lets me connect from anywhere easily and fairly cheaply...and that's all it does for me. I use a different usenet server, a different e-mail service, a different web browser, etc... That said, I am cancelling AOL within the next month or two. Cable access has gotten cheaper than AOL's dial-up rate, and getting online while on the road is much easier than it was several years ago and no longer requires long-distance surcharges. Skydiving + beer - lots of money x the % of friends you make - the friends you'll lose is = to the amount of....oh nevermind. Next time could you put the "oh nevermind" in FRONT of the equation, so I don't get a headache trying to keep track of the variables? Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" That's so wierd. I'm WAY bolder in person than I am on here. "livendive" appears to me to be this quiet, reserved, often boring, and very often irritating shadow of Dave. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

Skydiving without danger=fun Skydiving with danger=fun + "thrill" Skydiving with danger=limited population of like-minded risk-takers Skydiving without danger=massive crowds of couch potatos and assholes (the bad kind) Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -
Ineffective, at least in my case, but then again I haven't done much. Hmmm...maybe I should try the shotgun approach that seems so common here. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

An excellent way for our government to finance this expenditure. I wish they'd do a full-scale fund-raising effort that involved some sort of bonds. That way, those who support the effort can finance it and those who don't aren't forced to. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
