Because I fear the scientists are vying for funding dollars for research. No funding necessary if there isn't a problem. Only science can tell us if there is a problem. Plus, I suspect the economic interests of the oil/gas/auto/coal industries are somewhat more robust than that of the research community. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" Why is it that the most vociferous proponents and opponents of AGW theory are usually those with the least actual knowledge of the subject? Politicians, talking heads, and their supporters seem far more convinced one way or another than, you know, scientists. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

Should Catholic Church Punish Pro-Abortion Rights Govt Officials?
livendive replied to Andy9o8's topic in Speakers Corner
I don't have a problem with them denying services to someone who doesn't subscribe to their dogma. I think that logically, they should treat pro-capital punishment members the same way they treat pro-choice members, but it doesn't really concern me. Either way, I'd be a fan of taxing them (and other churches) the same as any other business. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -

CHEER! This will be great. One small step closer to government run health care. Yeah, because they've done SUCH a great job with Medicaid/Medicare... *Edit to add sarc tag* Think of all the senior citizens who rely entirely on Medicare/Medicaid for their healthcare. Where do you think most of them would be without it? (Note that's "would" be, not "should") Bad coverage is still better than no coverage at all. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" In the OP I listed 4 gigs of DDR3 1333 (latency=7). I figure that should be a nice step up from the 2 gigs of DDR2 I'm currently running. Are you giving me an excuse to double that? [/angelic][/sly] Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

On the way home from your friend's place he was in a terrible car accident. He woke up days later in the hospital and had no memory of the accident or the night before. He goes about his life now with this empty feeling in his heart, like something once filled it yet now is gone. He also finds himself drawn from time to time to the bar where he met your friend. Being a talented artist, he finds himself scribbling portraits during board meetings at work of a beautiful woman he's never met. He has no idea why he does these things or feels the way he does and generally just wanders the world in a sort of listless state, searching for the meaning of it all. Why does he feel the way he feels? Who's this mystery woman he obsessively draws in his spare time? He may never know. Sheer brilliance! Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" This is the part that unnerves me the most. I started playing with computers in the late 70's and used to be able to comfortably navigate system settings. Nowadays though, let's just say that I'm hoping I don't break anything while awkwardly trying to learn and simultaneously tweak the BIOS and CMOS set-up. I figured that was obvious and had already planned on it. Every little bit helps! Blues, Dave Dont forget the rest of the proper geek attire. Actually, Muttley bought me this one a couple years ago. Bonus points for it being a little tight. Many other funny tshirts here. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

The CPU should come with some sort of thermal compound, right? Some sites seem to be suggesting an anti-static bracelet and/or pad when playing with the CPU...is that necessary? Thanks! Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

OK, I've never attended a LAN party, or a Renaissance Faire, or a Star Trek convention, but as of tomorrow I should have all the parts to put together my first home-built computer. After combo discounts and rebates, it cost me $863. Any of you gaming/computer geeks want to reassure me that I did good? Or tell me the best place to find step-by-step instructions for assembly so I don't forget anything? Am I reading you correctly, are saying that socialism and Marxism are paths to greater freedom than capitalism and a free market economy? NO!!!! They need to come down as they are walls between us and freedom. If you take them down then you can have freedom! How do you define freedom? Do you think organized religions are also barriers to freedom? Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

I can think of a bunch that I know...basically anyone who works for employers that neither provide healthcare nor pay enough for their employees to purchase it privately (while still meeting the lowest tier of Mazlow's hierarchy of needs). Verdict Skydive Arizona VS Quattrocchi et el
livendive replied to bbarnhouse's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That's fantastic! I'm not a fan of skydivers sueing skydivers, but in this case I think it's justified. A few more like this might be enough to make them either play nicely or leave the pack for good. -

Would you try to disarm someone on the street?
livendive replied to npgraphicdesign's topic in Speakers Corner
Having disarmed a couple guys when I was younger and gained some (ok, a tiny amount) of wisdom as I've aged, I gotta say it would depend on my gut as to whether or not compliance would avert harm. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -
Straight up jumps/years = 157. If I subtract the periods of inactivity (first 3 years = 50 jumps, 3 years of medical crap = 20 jumps, last 5 winters = 0 jumps), my active pace is 370/year. "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
