I'm hoping the PCP will keep me up till then. OK, maybe not, but I do have a lawn chair and a bottle of wine that I'm planning on taking to the DZ sometime between midnight and 1 AM. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

Don't be so sure. I'd say the "hot" part might be a bit of an exaggeration, but what's a little white lie between friends? Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

I have no problem with your destroying this place. The men in here will make do without shelter, while the women succumb to the elements. Was it Sam Elliot who called in an airstrike on his own coordinates? That guy's a badass! We'll be like him! Kill it now man! Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

Just an FYI. The picture on the front page of the "Space" section of CNN.com is of the nose cone. It's not close enough to read, but you can tell there's something written there below the NASA emblem here. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -
Three and a half hours till my 3-day weekend starts. My boss cancelled our bi-weekly meeting this afternoon due to "lack of information to pass on". Beer about fifteen minutes after I get off work. A drunk dial list that will probably get abused tonight. We've got clear skies for the Perseid shower tonight Blues, Dave P.S. Vacation through the end of the year??!

How much freefall time do tandems REALLLLY get??.
livendive replied to Amazon's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'll walk the fence here. Jeanne needs to get over it. Life is too short for all the negativity, and a dz vendetta usually hurts the individual's reputation more than the DZ's. Just ask Terry Murray. I see nothing good coming of it for either party. That said, when I was trying to pay my tab a couple weeks ago, the gals up front thought I was in a group of tandem students trying to waiver/pay. I got to hear the speech, and it was in fact "Normal freefall is from 9,000 feet (might have been 10,000, I'm not sure) and lasts 30 seconds, but for only $25 you can go to 12,000 feet and get a full minute of freefall time. Plus, since today we're flying the big plane, you'll get an extra 1,000 feet for free. That's 70 seconds of freefall and it only costs an extra $25. It's so worth it, I really, really recommend it." I replied, "umm, I'm just trying to pay for a couple jumps I made", while mentally comparing those numbers to my typical ProTrack readings on tandem jumps. So.... I think it'd be better if Jeanne moved on to more positive pursuits and not waste her time with smear posts like this, but I also wouldn't go so far as to call this one an out & out lie. I dunno, $308 for a tandem with video from 9,500' does sound a little high. I think $22 to jump a Cessna is a little crazy too, but that's what it is at my home DZ as well and I occasionally pay for slots there. I wouldn't say either is totally out there, but I'd agree with the subject of this thread that they're expensive. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

That's an improvement over what he's normally doing. Don't bitch too loudly or he might hear you and get back to doing what he does best. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

Depends on the DZ I'm at. At one DZ, the TI gets $25, plus $10 for packing and $2 for each pound the student weighs over 200, while the video guy gets $20 and uses the DZ's dubbing equipment and media. I think the video guys at this dz should make more. At another DZ the TI gets $40 plus $10 for packing and $1 for each pound the student weighs over 185, and I think the video guy gets $20 and doesn't have to dub. Not having to dub is a nice reduction in workload, but I'd still say the vidiots are a bit underpaid. Another $5 or a packjob would probably be fair. Overall, I think the TI should earn a little more but not a lot. The camera guy has to invest in his equipment, the TI has to spend money getting a rating. The camera guy has to take wear and tear on his equipment, the TI has to take wear and tear on his body. The camera guy is responsible for delivering a quality souvenir, the TI is responsible for a tandem student's safety. Plus, doing 10 tandems in a day is just plain more work than doing 10 video jumps in a day. Also, the law of supply & demand comes into play at some point. These days every novice freeflyer and his homey has a camera on the side of his head and thinks he can fly tandem video. Guys willing to hang under a drogue all day aren't quite so common (though almost). Given that a DZ is going to pay whatever they have to in order to get the work done, most of the time, I suspect this will come out in the TI's favor. That may vary based on the vidiot's ability to sell stills and whether he owns his own dubbing equipment. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

Hockey. The puck seems to be under the control of someone (other than a goalie) about 2% of the time. The rest of the time it's just a bunch of guys chasing after it when it gets deflected somewhere they didn't want it to. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

You do understand that neither of those are standalone activities, right? Both are just side activities that compliment drinking...think of them as outdoor versions of billiards and darts. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
