WTF? For one, I've never said that. Post 981 of the other thread. "The effect of this choice is clear...you put Martin into fight or flight mode. Granted, when he stops chasing, presumably Martin recognizes it. That said, fight or flight doesn't abate nearly as quickly as it triggers." Both threads are about Martin/Zimmerman, so how is it *not* relevant? I'm not sure how to reword that to get around your misunderstanding. Basically what I was saying was that going from neutral to flight/fight mode can be instantaneous, with adrenaline and endorphins slamming into our blood stream. Calming back down/shifting back into neutral doesn't happen nearly so quickly. I'm sure some people could do it in a matter of seconds, but most will likely take minutes, and some even hours. I was most certainly not saying it's difficult to switch from flight to fight and don't really get how you interpreted that from what I said. Further, even if I had said that, it still wouldn't rebut what I said above in this thread, which is what I assume you were trying to do. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" Offended sure, but I generally forget being offended pretty easily. My real problem would begin when someone started chasing me. I'd perceive that as a threat. Blues, Dave Wait .... I thought you said it was *SO* difficult to switch from flight to fight, before? WTF? For one, I've never said that. For two, even if I had, it would be completely irrelevent to this conversation. Montana Gov: Romney’s father ‘born into polygamy commune in Mexico’

this but I'd temper it a bit - if his religious beliefs support that he's against murder and stealing and treating others unfairly, etc, etc, etc. Then I don't mind those beliefs guiding his leadership. If those beliefs drive him to force others to sacrifice sheep, beat their daughters, and throw citizens into woodchippers for fashion reasons, then I have a real problem with it. I don't care how someone gets their morality, I just care about the content of their defined morality. What he said. There are some fundamental concepts of human morality that are common across all (or at least most) relgions. In a society built on freedom of religion, the only morals that should be manifest in our public policy are those tenets that are so widespread among humans of any belief system as to not restrict or impede their adherence to said faith. Given our collective appreciation for freedom and liberty, the wiccan rede would seem to be a good basis. "Be it no harm to others, do as you will". In other words, don't kill, hurt, or steal from others. Otherwise, have fun doing whatever lets you sleep at night. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -
Montana Gov: Romney’s father ‘born into polygamy commune in Mexico’

Why would an atheist care which flavor of crazy he's voting for? Obama and Romney both have some crazy religous beliefs, neither of which will affect my vote (though I'd give mormom magic panties my top vote for hilarity). Blues, Dave As an Athiest, a nominee's religous beliefs do not matter to me, the nominee that will use his beliefs on how he will govern does. Romeny already has a history of letting his religous beliefs dictate how he will govern, Obama, not so much. I suppose I can agree with that, but it also doesn't disagree with what I said. I don't care which flavor of Santa Claus our President grew up believing in. I would care if he wanted to put Santa Claus on the one dollar bill, but that's related to the action, not the belief. I'm currently unaware of Romney's religion being a significant factor in his policy decisions. If what you say is true, that'll negatively affect my opinion of him. Not having read any details (and not having time to right now), I'll just voice my support for the basic concept. Any definition of "person" that includes corporations, churches, labor unions, or any other collection of actual persons is a faulty one. With regard to campaign finance or lobbying efforts, a company or labor union that has 1000 members has 1000 "voices". It doesn't deserve another, bigger voice for the group. I suspect that the rights acknowledged by our founding fathers attached to individual citizens, and each individual is afforded exactly the same rights as any other, no more or less. Granting additional rights to collections of individuals gives them an (unintended imo) advantage over other individualized not party to the group. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" To be fair, it might matter, but I agree that it shouldn't. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

And there is nearly a 100% probability TM would be alive had he left GM alone Which is, not surprisingly, very similar to the probability he'd be alive if GM had left him alone. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

This is why I think its good that it went to trial. I don't know how that will turn out, but if it *hadn't* gone to trial, we'd basically be telling the populace that there are no consequences for shooting someone, so long as you can spin it corrrectly and have no witnesses. That's too dangerous a message to send, therefore a trial and legitimate determination of guilty or not guilty is needed. If the latter is the outcome, I suspect there will be some tweaks to the law to prevent picking a fight just for the opportunity to end it. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" Montana Gov: Romney’s father ‘born into polygamy commune in Mexico’

Personally I think that may be more of an issue for people like you...religious folk may have strong opinions, but for the most part it's a personal thing. It's not an issue for Athiest, you can pretty much bet that Romney will recieve very few of their votes. Why would an atheist care which flavor of crazy he's voting for? Obama and Romney both have some crazy religous beliefs, neither of which will affect my vote (though I'd give mormom magic panties my top vote for hilarity). It's pretty much down to Romney and Gingrich at this point, neither of whom scare me much. Gingrich doesn't scare me because he's too slimy to beat Obama. Romney doesn't scare me because, well, I'd actually consider voting for him. Blues. Dave Latest polls show Newt beating Obama In any event I have book marked this post I think you can delete that bookmark now, Rush. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" You know how you didn't care when it happened under Bush, or maybe even supported such activities, but oppose them now that it's under Obama? Obviously there are folks on the other side of the aisle who mirror your level of concern. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

But the special prosecutor has already decided that Martin needs justice Not Zimmerman Maybe you can throw inocent until proven guilty under the bus for your political views But I will not Justices /= conviction. If Zimmerman is tried by a jury of his peers and found not guilty, Martin (actually both of them) will still have gotten justice. Only if the incident were swept under the rug would justice be withheld. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

A fellow libertarian, I see. Indeed, except for when their running for stupid shit like Parks & Recreation Director. How the hell can a libertarian put his name in that hat with a straight-face? Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

I know! Or why liberal policies tend to be more nannying, e.g. if the powers-that-be have limp wrists, they assume everyone else does, too. Too true! It's at times like these that I'm especially appreciative of my rare status as both physically and intellectually gifted. And with a huge cock too, I'm like a walking Trifecta! Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

That could explain why conservative policies tend to rely more on brute force than intelligent consideration, e.g. relying more on the military and less on diplomacy. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

Which is what Zimmerman did. Agreed, but it also seems to me its what they both did. The result probably would have been the most interesting if Martin also had a gun, but I bet their families wish neither of them had. Zimmerman shouldn't have chased Martin. Martin shouldn't have hit Zimmerman. Both did dumb things that any reasonable person would consider threatening. I wish they'd just settled it with a good old fashioned fist fight...they'd both have been healed up and on with their lives a bit wiser for it weeks ago. That was minutes earlier. For a conflicting account, see: http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/04/03/us-usa-florida-shooting-trayvon-idUSBRE8320UK20120403 Wrong. I discount rhys-level leaps to scenarios that require suicidal stupidity or superman x-ray vision on Martin's part. Maybe you should try it sometime. Your idea of suicidal stupidity is not shared by everyone. Personally, if I'm in a position to disarm or take out assailant, I consider moving in to be safer than running. I started that as a kid, when the older, bigger bully chasing me had almost caught me, I dropped to the ground tripping him, then got up and ran the other way. I continued it as an adult when someone pulled a knife on me from about 10' away and later had to give said knife to the police, and the guy was convicted of murdering someone with it the night before he pullled it on me. The guy who pulled a gun on me at a party, from across the room...I also took it away. We ended up calling an ambulance for him rather than the cops, as I think he learned his lesson. Bottom line: When an assailant steps up his game, going on offense may be better than defense. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

Says who? Blues, Dave Who says he was, besides Bill? And *IF* he was, why the HELL would Martin come BACK and confront him instead of breaking the sound barrier getting the FUCK out of Dodge? If Zimmerman had gun in hand, how did Martin get the opportunity to beat on him for almost a minute, instead of Zimmerman shooting him right at the start of the fight? Serious logic fails in that scenario. Who says he was is irrelevent. The only person who says he wasn't is Zimmerman, and he would have cause to say that either way, so his statement can be discounted. The part about them spending some time fighting before the shot is logical and well-made, a refreshing change from all the arguments that rely on the statements of a person worried about his potential legal troubles. So even after you get away from them, you're going to go back and 'fight' instead of continuing your 'flight'? Not only does that completely go against your prior statement upthread, it just might get you in the same position as Martin. I didnt say that. You can consider me in the "unconvinced" camp that it played out like that between Martin and Zimmerman. The most likely scenario to my sense of probability is that Zimmerman was still in the act of chasing Martin, or had resigned the chase so recently as to be reasonably considered still a threat. Unlike you, I'll readily admit that my theory could be wrong, and I'm glad a jury will have the opportunity to weigh the evidence. You, on the other hand, seem to grant automatic infallibility to someone who says the magic words "self defense", accepting anything and everything they say as beyond reproach, so long as their opponent is dead. It depends on what kind of RW you want to do. If you're just talking about occasional pickup groups, turn a few points at the end of the day kind of stuff, a FF suit can be fine (assuming fall rate compatability). If you're interested in something a bit more polished, yeah, a purpose-built suit will help. Personally I dress for the folks I'm jumping with. If it's some anal-retentive types, I'll put on booties. If it's folks just interested in one more laugh before an end of the day beer, I'll wear my FF pants and a T-shirt. If it's just me and my fiance, it's whatever I'm wearing at the time. At my last job, the only way exempt staff got overtime pay was to submit for it in advance. Your boss would have to show that it was for a specific project, with a finite duration lasting at least a few weeks, and no more than a few months. Then you could get a bonus on your paycheck (not hourly). I only saw one person actually get this in 10 years. At my current job, we used to get a fair amount of (straight) overtime pay. Then comp time was offered and people split, about 50/50 on which they took. Now overtime pay is exceptionally rare and comp time is our only real option. Once they moved us 35 miles out of town to save on office rent three years ago, and started requiring that we document all "casual" (read "uncompensated") overtime so that it can be split equally between our projects, I quit donating my time. My door-to-door day is 12 hours, and I get paid for 9 of them, with every other Friday off. That's enough. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

I suggest you examine the subtle difference. To most people the Westboro Baptist Church beliefs are very offensive and idiotic. If your belief structure is only subtly different from theirs, then I do indeed urge you to reflect a little deeper. I wonder what your fellow patriot guard riders would think if you told them your beliefs or only subtly different from those of the Westboro clan. I'm going to go out on a limb here and make a guess as to Ron's thought process. At a basic level, he agrees with the Westboro Baptist views on homosexuality, but he disagrees with their disruptive/hurtful displays at military funerals. Thus his problem is not with the message, but rather the stage on which they deliver it. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
